  1. I was thinking, about a 2 stage multi, where at the first stage you recover a garage remote. And at the second stage you press the button, and lowered from the trees would be the cache. Lowered by motor, powered by solar panels and some NiMH batteries. A light cache though. Then you would return the remote on the way back out. Anyone see anything like this anywhere?
  2. Uh oh... we may have missed something in some of our hides; it may be back to the drawing boards for us! Now I am worried. . . How about the rusty iron understructure beneath an abandoned railroad bridge in the wilderness, your body clinging to a girder twenty feet below the bridge deck and 110 feet above the river gorge below? How about climbing to an elevation of 9,800 feet and then crawling deep into the belly of an ancient mountain in the face of a raging waterfall? Uhhh ohhh, spaghettios. . .! I liked these 2, they sound like they could be fun.
  3. Personally In this situation, as I know how the system handles these cases, this was a time for street justice. If you have the plate, I know people who could get your their address. These kinda people need to be taught a lesson the the law is not willing to. I wasnt even there, and Im really angry.
  4. I don't think its the size of the cache thats the problem, it's where they are placed. It me its more about the location than the cache itself. From what I've seen so far, here in Toronto, we dont really have the problem yet. Most cachers are placing quality caches. But bush Burger King hides, arent those on private property? How are these getting published?
  5. Interesting example. I suppose that I should stop the little one from drawing on the sidewalk with chalk, lest she get herself tossed in the hoosegow. Interesting you should say that, Ive thought about that a few times, As Ive seen some kids chalk drawing that lasted weeks due to no rain, and it did look really horrible as they arent very good artists yet. Also I've seen some professional chalk drawning being down downtown on the sidewalk, and those guys had permits to do it. So I would imagine that the kids are actually defacing sidewalks. On that same subject though, chalk will wash off alot faster than waterpaints, and is no compairison to how long a sticker would last. A magnet is just an object left behind, sitting, albit sometimes verticly, but it is just sitting there, as it isn't actually attached to the surface.
  6. You're calling bumper sticker material "removable"? Calling that removable is like calling paint or permanent marker "removable". Sure, you could technically remove it... scraping for a while with a blade or using chemicals... but it's not anywhere near as temporary or truly removable as a magnet. So no, if it were me, I definitely wouldn't equate the two. On metal it is as easy to remove as a magnet - I had to test it in order to make sure it would be weatherproof. With my (a guy's) fingernails, it is easily removed. Trust me on this one. A sticker that is removeable today, most likely wont be after a season or two. After the sun has beated on it and it has gotten wet so many times, it will most likeyly leave glue behind. A magnet is what you should be using, and there is a definately a difference from a magnet to a sticker, one is just sitting there, a sticker is now PART of the sign. Plus with magnetic stips, you can put the co-ords on the INSIDE (side facing what you want it to stick to) and paint the rear side to camo into whatever you are sticking it on. Then you have a completely removeable item, and something that is even LESS visable to anyone, and most likely will have an longer lifespan. Or even stick the sticker to the magnet. If a cop caught you painting a wall with waterpaints, I dont think they would make a distiction that it could wash off in the next rain, and trying to tell them I'm not really defacing the surface, where-as if you were putting that same image up as a poster on that wall (As long as your not using GLUE) you would have alot less trouble getting out of that.
  7. I agree, they should just remove the number showing in the LOG. You could still click on a profile and see how many finds they have, but in the plain log it should not show.. Then all the cheaters, would really be only doing it for their own viewing. And only people really interested in another user would be looking at the numbers. My 2 cents.
  8. Urban Micro's in non-historical/non-interesting places/no significance at all(Set of All McDonald's could be ok) are kinda bland, and really people could make them 100% more interesting by at least making them puzzle caches, no?
  9. I painted rocks. When (and if ) I ever place this night cache I will take the rocks to the site and place them. Yeah looks like im going to have to take your example. On my last cache I painted rocks and placed them so they can be removed... I guess Ill have to do that again for this other idea I have... Ive tested the reflective paint on wood so far, and it really sucks.. So I might have to rethink the idea... I like the reflective tacks, did you make those yourself or did you buy those?
  10. Oh Ok, thats cool. I would never place a junk cache. How do you show your face at an event then? I like to places caches in places where there aren't any and places I think cachers would like to visit. Not just some bench, but an area. Basicly got everything published now... Ended up being 4 caches in the set. 3 multis and 1 single... But everything ends at http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...99-90b5b8a0ac70 You've worked so Hard, and lists all the other caches in the series. But Like I said, there is something to be enjoyed by a urban, small or film canister cache that people walk by every day and don't know is there. Here in Toronto, we have a set of "Go" station caches that are located at Go train stations through-out the Ontario area. I have to say that these caches have their place also... I dont want one on every stop sign everywhere but Some urban caches are good for urbanites.
  11. Eh! That my cache, and I'd like to point out, its split into 2, and takes you through a beautiful path/park system that runs along a creek within the city. It also drops you off at one of the biggest and best parks in the GTA. Its a place that contained no other cache's and cachers are already enjoying. Nothing trash about it, and the problem with getting it posted was that I put OTHER singles in the area that were too close. None of it was trash. So mind your examples. Also, I dont think that Walmart caches should be published no? Isnt that private property? And I think some of these users dont understand urban cachers and the fun of a cache that even 1000's of people walk by everyday and dont even know its there.
  12. Yeah sidewalk is definatly out of the question. But what about on an abondoned rail line, on the ties, or rail itself? As a NIGHT only cache.
  13. Just to add to that, Im talking about the 100% clear reflective paint, that you cant even see in the day, and even its reflective ability at night is very little, you'd have to shine a flashlight right on it to see basicly.
  14. Well note to everyone, I had to change everything to get the caches approved.. And they are now approved and people have visited them. Well I'm still waiting for one last approval, and the other one they WILL NOT approve, so i guess I'm going to retrive him... Etobicoke's Secret Green http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...21-570c201f4795 The Etobicoke Nile 2 -Upper- http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...a3-ff0ca90ed892 The Etobicoke Nile 1 -Little- http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...32-ce286406d4e6 Ok If anyone is still reading this forum, what does everyone thing about refective paint, sprayed on the sidewalk? It would not be co-ord's but look like footprints?
  15. Well I just thought I'd add this topic ON whats happinging to geocaching, as myself only just got into it a month ago, but was around during the infantcy with an old e-trex. Here in Southern Ontario Canada, this past week, geocaching was in the Paper 2 times in one week in The Sunday SUN "The 2nd/1st paper in Ontario". Firstly on Sunday May 28th was in Barrie ONT. Kids had found a container "cache" and had taken it directly to the police station. The cop's then evacuated their station supposably and called in the bomb squad. Even with the spin, it turned out to be a positive story, and no charges were laid, the paper took a positive spin on geocaching and even placed a cache of their own, with a easyly $400 dollar prize for the FTF. Then secondly May 31st, Wednesday, Toronto, ONT. The story was published about the finder of the FTF prize and what he recieved, turned out to be the placer of the so called bomb from the sunday article. Also he proceeded to place another cache, that was posted offically on Geocaching.com and was printed in the SUN, another positive spin article... Im sure things like this are helping geocaching reach the muggles. I didn't even know about the articles, but people at work who had heard me talking about geocaching, were the ones informing me "Yeah that thing you do with that GPS, there's an article in the paper about it"
  16. Ok look at it like this, Is there any difference?
  17. That being said, I really think they should update what they are calling a GUIDELINE page, and change it to a RULE page. And state that you can apply for an exception to the RULES but you should do it PRIOR to placing a cache. Even the quote posted of the definition of Guideline uses taxes as a reference. If you can't see from that, how Guidelines are grey areas and Rules are Rules then I can't help you. Really I think they would create alot less problems for everyone. Because now from the responses and looking into the forums I can see this happens alot, people spending time to find out their caches aren't going to be approved because they ALSO thought that these were just guidelines. Also I think it should be clear that you cannot create a single inside of a multi even if distances are ok. No-where is this posted and it should be also something that it pointed out and made clear. Anyways thanks again everyone, see you out there in the field.... Also I had my FTF on the 2 multi's already, She really seems to enjoy it, Im glad someone finally got to. Edited this to make the point more clear also, along with a diagram below.
  18. Hi everyone, just wanted to say thanks for the replys and help, and from alot of the replys I can tell there are a few of the Reviewers in here 2. I just wanted to say to everyone that I was always quite pleasant with the reviewer and the only anger I ever showed was in my fourm title. That being said, all of your advice, I split the multi into 2, and disabled one of the caches near the final. And it was approved. Although the other cache, they still haven't allowed.. I just lost most of my post to all of you due to a computer crash again, so im going to post this... and add in the next post.... Sorry this laptop is going screwy on me lately.
  19. Difficulty 5? What specialized knowledge, skills, or equipment is needed to locate the cache once you get to the waypoint? Well from your post it sound to me like your quoting me Difficulty setting requirements/guidelines or maybe rules who knows, but one thing I do know Is I dont see them posted up there.. I would love to know them..... Now im going to search in the forums to see, but really if the community has come up with such standards they should post them.... In my posting, I listed it difficulty 5 and even posted my reasoning for this as, due to the amount of stages, and lenght of hike that would be required I set it at a level 5. And that was clearly posted on the page. I would have definaltly adjusted it, according to the logs.
  20. Oh I forgot, Yeah it did, and with my Name its always easy to find the real fans as they are the only ones who know what it means.... And about the shadows.... Oh one more thing EVERYONE... From hes responce, hes not willing to budge Haveing a Single in a Mulit.. I can understand how this could get out of hand, but like the page said "there is no precedent for placing caches" I think if they want to set one they should do it after mine.
  21. OK you know what, Im going to write back to the reviewer one more time about each of the caches before I even email the appels guys, because in all honesty it WOULD be impossible with error even, to log the wrong cache on ANY stage of this multi or ANY of the singles, 100% impossible, unless your GPS was off my over 100m and you were reading the WRONG cache page and clues. Maybe I just havent justifyed it like you guys are saying. He's never been to the area...
  22. 3- Yes, Ive indicated right on the Cache page that its 17 stages, significant hike, over 9km if you do the entire thing, and is listed at a difficulty 5. 4- Other other reason theres a single in the Middle of it, near one of alternate parking spots, and why there is a single near the end. I have read alot of peoples review, and I know that there are people out there who dont like mulits, and so they can enjoy the area and just do the single.
  23. Well it was done like this on purpose. I have seen alot of multi in the city, where people will drive from stage to stage, This was meant to be a walk through a city trail. The stages are 80% magnetic strips that are camoed acording to where they are stuck and are mostly right on the trail and should be quick finds. Id have to say after setting it up, I dont think Id ever do one that long again, but I after I started, and finished it, I was commited to maintaining it. But the reviewer doesnt have a really have a problem with the 17 stager or the fact its 17 stages, its the other singles that were placed nearby. I dont have a problem, if they want to say you CANT do these things, then well POST it. But this one is already placed, it's not encroaching on anyone elses cache by my own if anything. And I can't stress enough how all everything was done to HELP the community, not hurt it. Ok you guys tell me what is the difference between a multi with a single IN it, and 2 multis. And B, I think the Saturation statements are quite clear on why they exsit, and I dont think its possible in that area to accidently log the WRONG cache or B encroached on other caches. That is all that guideline is for, and one is 20m too close to the final ( and its at the LIMIT of the park, and is DOWN an entire different FENCED OFF trail. The other one is 40m too close to the final but is in the OPPOSITE direction of the other one, there is empassble creek between these.... that is only passable by a bridged area... You could never mix the 2 up...
  24. Am I the only one who has the problem with the word GUIDELINE over RULES? I understood them AS GUIDELINES, do you understand how that can be interpreted??
  25. Oh my god, how did I miss that email appeals@geocaching.com. !! Thanks I guess I have to go email them now too... But really what do the rest of you think?
