Perusing through the forums after reading this thread made me realize there's another issue about copyrighted images that's been overlooked....
How many avatars are copyrighted images and are being used here 'illegally'?

Well, the obvious comment Captain is that there must be something that the animals are smelling and find interesting.
You might reduce the problem after making sure there's no food of any sort, no candles or anything else that has any kind of strong odor, and perhaps placing the whole cache in a ziplock bag (there's some big bags out there now).

I don't understand - where did the cachers go that was not open to the public?
Even the cache page said,

I suppose the lighthouse analogy isn't too far off, it's just that the light source is passing parallel to you instead of staying in one spot and if you don't happen to be where it's pointed, then you don't see it.
I did try to see a -6 in the day but it was too close to the sun, at least for my eyes.

I still can't believe my luck, the first time I check out heaven-above site, a -8 mag (very bright) flare is going to happen the very next morning, I'm 0.0km from the center, and it's at an altitude high enough to be above the trees. Add to that clear skys this morning and I had the best introduction to Iridium Flares you could possibly ask for.
At the appointed time, I'm standing on my deck looking in the proper quandrant of the sky and admiring all the stars.
I see the satellite approaching as a steady, yet dim light.
Just as it gets to where I figure the azimuth was specifying and just as my watch alarm was going off, the light got quickly brighter to where it was actually much brighter than any star/planet I've ever seen, and then it dimmed out again and I watched it go on it's way.
What an intro!
If you are just checking out this topic and are wondering if it's worth the effort to see a flare, I highly recommend you do it at least once!
I will be checking out the possibilitis of seeing another one on my camping trips!

Well! I can't believe my luck. I'm going to have to check this out.
After visiting the heavens-above website and entering my home coordinates, my back deck is 0.0km from a -8 flare tomorrow morning!
Unfortunately, it means I'll have to get up at 5am on a Sunday morning but I gotta try this!

This morning I actually clicked on geocaching and got right into the site, clicked on discuss geocaching and got right into the site without having to relogon!
Hope this means the problem has been solved!

I agree with the dog.
There's all of 1 member only cache within 20 miles of me so I sure didn't pay the money for that.
It is nice to get pocket queries so that I can keep my Etrex current every week so as I'm driving around, I can spot any cache in the area without having to download each one individually.
Paying the money to help support an activity you like is money well spent.

Tough terrain is ok (I don't mean mountain climbing) but once I fight my way to where I want to be, I don't want the find to be outrageous (5/3)!
I too find the 3/3 to be just about right, I'd hate to look for a 5/3 - a 5/1 is ok because you know it's a mind breaker, a 1/5 is ok because you know it's the physical attempt, but 3/3 seems to be just right for the overall challenge.

I too am still having problems and the one little twist that I notice is that after logging onto the main page and clicking on 'discuss geocaching', the forum page comes up and I'm not logged in, I click on log-in and the status bar shows that something is being done, but the screen doesn't change, I click on log-in again and then I get the form asking for my id/password.

Well, I'm from Michigan and I'm not really sure.
Just because it would be a virtual doesn't make it lame, it would entirely depend on just how special these places are that you're thinking about.
If they were interesting and if there was some special challenge to get there, I might be interested in paying them a visit.

OK, there's been many threads about the impact that geocachers have on the environment based on the additional foot traffic in a certain area.
Has anyone figured out what the average number of visitors is for a given difficulty rating?
I've been bothered by this question since an individual took it upon himself to remove one of my caches because of "so many people driving down the road in front of his house and that he just couldn't live like that" (I calculated based on the number of logs that 1 extra car drove by his house every 3 weeks! of course in his mind, every car going down that public road was going to my cache).
So anyhow, enough rant, I'd like to see a simple tablulation.... difficulty 1 is about 10 visitors a month, difficulty 2 about 8, diff. 3 about 7, etc.
Jeremy - is it possible with all the data you have on file now that you could come up with some stats? (no made up ones now!

Hide/Seek cache screen layout

It may have been discussed before but could you add reviewing the sceen layout to the Hide/Seek page to your probably massive 'to-do' list?
I find that it's slightly annoying to have to scroll down to the other selection boxes - e.g. entering waypoints, each time coming to the screen.
Perhaps the selection boxes could be moved/reformatted to the top of the page?
