  1. I have an almost new Garmin Legend HCx GPSr for sale. I have the original box, accessories, manuals, etc. It is a refurbished unit that I bought a couple weeks ago, but decided to get a different model. It is in perfect condition and works great. Also included is a Zagg screen protector (installed). I am asking $160 PayPal and shipped. This GPSr has not been registered with Garmin yet, so it is open for registration. This is sold as is with no refunds, no returns. Item is working perfectly and is like new. Send me an email through the forum if you are interested in it. Shipping will be via USPS Priority Mail, usually arrives in 2 to 4 days after payment. Product description: eTrex Legend HCx You can check my feedback score (100% for 10 years) on eBay. My username is TomInJax, same as here. -Tom
  2. Mr. El Diablo, Are you still selling your geo-hiking sticks? I tried a link that I found but it was dead. I am interested. I would rather have a great custom made stick! -Tom
  3. By the way gstiglitz, I think that you are making a mistake by not keeping this unit. Unless you are really broke - you won't find anything in a hand held GPS that will do what this one will do and as fast! Consider this a bump...
  4. Roddy, I can't answer your question. But I can attest to the speed and accuracy that this new line of GPS receivers work! I can walk right up to a cache, find a trail, and view my progress on aerial photographs. While getting 11 hours battery life from a pair of AA alkaline batteries. This unit is really, really waterproof. Even if you want to accidently take it into a pool! Take it from me!
  5. Ice Cream Man, et all, has been pardoned for GC.com offenses and is hereby a human, again!
  6. Ok, since no one else will engage me tonight. I rest my case. Innocent... err... Guilty as charged. But, since he has a full Presidential pardon by the outgoing President, I think that we should all bow in his presense and accept the President's decision...
  7. But I would really like the honor of starting the fifth page of this lame stuff...
  8. Ok, this is my last retort of this thread... I am really only posting to see if we can get to 5 pages on a topic that is really, really lame!!
  9. What I mean is, does this do justice to, or encourage any noobies?
  10. Not that it matters... But in the long run - does this really matter?
  11. How many forum posters does it take to change a light bulb? 1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed 14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently 7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs 27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs 53 to flame the spell checkers 41 to correct spelling/grammar flames 6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive 2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp" 15 know-it-alls who claim *they* were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct 156 to email the participant's ISPs complaining that they are in violation of their "acceptable use policy" 109 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum 203 to demand that cross posting to hardware forum, off-topic forum, and lightbulb forum about changing light bulbs be stopped 111 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts *are* relevant to this forum 306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty 27 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs 14 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's 3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group 33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too" 12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy 19 to quote the "Me too's" to say "Me three" 4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ 44 to ask what is a "FAQ" 4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?" 143 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs" 1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again. 1 to state that a light bulb does not emit light, it sucks dark. After it is full, it stays dark. Just Sayin'
  12. I will still buy breakfast for you and your great aunt, if you decide to attend! Well summarized and stated!!!
  13. I will pay for your breakfast if you want to show up as my guest! Edit: Let me extend that. For anyone that is worried about the exclusiveness of this event, I will pay for anyone's breakfast that chooses to come to this event - providing they are coming or live (which ever is greater) more than 300 miles! All in the interest of promoting Florida's wonderfully warm weather in the Winter season! My name is Tom Niderost, and I approve this message! -Tom
  14. I will sneak some pancakes out for you. Just bring your GPSr for the real fun! Ya, those NEFGA people - we know how THEY are!
  15. I have a Palm Tungsten in perfect condition with charger and 512MB SD card. Make me an resonable offer, including shipping from Florida via PM. I just checked and it looks like these are selling for about $99US on ebay.
  16. I just got my Explorist 500 a few weeks ago and really have been enjoying it. I originally got the LE model, and had to buy a couple Li-Ion batteries. With the AAA clip, it eats batteries quickly (about 4 to 6 hours). With the Li-Ion battery it works for a long time. I haven't found out how long yet. But it does last more than 8 hours! I used to have a Garmin GPSMap 60CSx. But for geocaching, I like the way the 500 navigates better.
  17. Here are a couple things that I would like to see changed/improved on the Explorist 500: 1. In point to point mode, the initial path to the waypoint stays on the map and never gets updated. This should erase after you move closer to the cache, or get updated. 2. Again in point to point navigation mode, when you zoom in to 100 feet, then try to zoom in closer the screen now has multiple highlighted paths on the screen. Zooming out then back in fixes this. 3. The screen light should shut off completely when you are not doing any functions, instead of just low light. 4. The zoom range would be nice if you could zoom down to 20 feet instead of only 100. Granted it really doesn't matter if you use the compass to locate a cache, but it helps to separate close waypoints on the map. Otherwise I am very happy with my 500!
  18. Ok, now you have changed everything! But now you have your choice of the Explorist XL, the Lowrance H20 C, Garmin GPSMap 60CSx, et all. Everyone has contributed much to the discussion. If you really want to do this right, you should try one of each in actual circumstances to determine the price/features package that you would like. And also call each customer service department to see what it will be like when you really need some support!! Better yet, buy one of each. Then pick one depending on how you feel that day...
  19. SCS, I was curious about this GPSr after reading your recommendation. Are there any reviews on this? How does it compare with the Garmin GPSMap 60CSx? Or the Explorist series? Have you used it under heavy tree cover? I noticed from the specs that it only zooms down to .02 mile (100 feet). But it does have a 16 channel receiver (as opposed to Garmin's 12 channel or Magellan's 14 channel)! It looks like it is a nice unit. But reviews would help, especially if a side by side comparison with other popular models was done. Thanks, Tom
  20. You can go with the Church of Garmin or the Church of Magellan. (GPSr users are extremely faithful to their brand) Both companies make very fine units, but Garmin has the best customer service. Magellan's customer service is horrible. In the price range under $300 for the best value of the two companies: Garmin Etrex Venture Cx for about $200 Magellan Explorist 500LE for about $200 Both will need accessories like extra batteries, memory, maps, brackets for your auto, motorcycle, etc. depending on your wants and needs. So, that will probably use up your $300 budget. I like the way that the Explorist 500 navigates. It is also a bit more sensitive than the Venture Cx. But as I said, if you have a problem with the Explorist - you might as well forget about any (Magellan) knowlegable support. On the other hand Garmin (Venture Cx) tends to bend over backwards to help their customers. This may end up confusing you more than help! But, either unit will serve you fine - it may be more important which company you want to buy from if you have an issue.
  21. I have: Magellan Explorist 500LE Garmin Etrex Venture Cx I like them both! Tom
  22. I have the Explorist 500 and for just less than $200 it is a very sensitive color GPSr. I have compared it with Garmin's GPSMap 60CSx and Etrex Venture Cx and it is as sensitive as the 60CSx (IMHO). I tested both the 500 and the 60CSx in a thick forest with both units working about the same. I also have the Venture Cx and it is very similar to the 60CSx, but the 60CSx has better sensitivity. Both the Explorist 500 and the Venture Cx are very good values. The only downside about anything that Magellan makes, is the totally crappy customer service - whereas Garmin's customer service is top notch! Tom
  23. Send me a PM or email. I have something that you may be interested in. --Tom
