  1. Since you can buy one for $85 brand new, I'm lowering the price to $50, plus shipping. PM me if you're interested or if you have any questions.
  2. I am selling my Explorist 100 well... because I never use it. I used it for about a month. It's in great condition and the only visible wear is on the joystick. I would be happy to post pictures of the unit. I still have the box and manual. I'm asking $65 plus shipping. PM me if you're interested. Here is everything that is included. Original box, booklets, and the unit itself. Box is a little dinged up, so if you buy it, that didn't happen during shippng. Here is the unit itself. The icon on the joystick is worn off from about a month of use. The unit is in great condition.
  3. Here at the University we have a card called an Action Card and you can put money on this card, called Bama Cash. My friend Jay and I usually cache together so for a team name, we came up with Bama Cache. Clever, eh?
  4. Any day when I can take time off from my schoolwork and go out and cache, thats a big day of caching to me.
  5. So wooden coins can be taken and kept?
  6. Will someone please explain geocoins and wooden coins to me? How do you get them? If you find them, do you get to keep them if you trade for them? What can you trade for them? I'm just overall confused. Thanks
  7. I had an intresting run in yesterday while caching. My friend and I were in the woods off of this trail looking for the cache and this man comes up and asks what we were doing. I explained it to him and he walked off. A few minutes later he returned and asked if we smoked weed... I said no and he left once again.
  8. I got started by accidentally finding an ammo box crammed with goodies. I looked under the root of a tree and saw what I thought was a car battery. I climbed down to get it and my girlfriend says "I know what this is, it's a geocache!" and after she explained it to me, I was hooked. Went to the store the following weekend and bought a Magellan Explorist 100 and have been caching whenever possible. It's so much fun. Exactly the hobby I've been looking for.
  9. After reading all of the replies, I decided to go back out today and attempt a few caches. Out of the four I attempted, I found three. I got within about 30 ft and started looking. Two of the caches required little looking at all. Thanks for the advice.
  10. Thanks. I search the entire area. Under every rock, over hang, in every crevice, anywhere and everywhere... and I never have any luck. I come back and check my coord. and they are correct. I'm sure I will get better in time. I was going to attend the little get together Thursday in Northport, but I have a paper due the next day and really have no time to attend. I will catch the next one. I really wanted to come.
  11. I recently bought a Magellan Explorist 100 and started to geocache. I've gone out twice in search of caches but always come back without a find. I get to the coordinates and search all over the place and can never find it. Any idea on what I'm doing wrong? Am I relying too much on my gps? Any tips would be appreciated.
  12. Well I got a Explorist 100 and I think it is a great starter unit (I just started as well). It's not to fancy and I tested it out on a few already found caches in my town and in some cases it got me within 3 or 4 ft. The only problem with this one is manually putting in the coordinates. Other than that, I love it.
  13. Thanks. Ya'll have been a ton of help. I can't wait to start.
  14. Didn't have to buy one after all. I got a Magellan Explorist 100 as a gift today. The only downside is no pc connectivity... oh well. I won't be doing any major caching for a couple of months. Only a few here and there... too much schoolwork.
  15. I'm looking at a Garmin etrex legend right now on ebay. Is that a good unit? I'm getting it for about $80.
  16. What are a few low cost ($100) entry level units?
  17. I think I'm gonna score me a brand new Etrex Legend for under $100 on ebay.
  18. Anywhere between 50 and 100. I'm looking for a used etrex on ebay right now. I'm sort of low on the cash flow.
  19. Thanks. Thats a lot of help. I'm currently looking at two on ebay. I found a few in my hometown without a gps by using google maps and my knowledge of the area, but that was getting a little too hard. I should be up and caching in a week.
  20. I just recently discovered geocaching and am looking into buying a GPS. I have been looking at Garmin Etrex Yellows. Would that be a good enough starter unit for someone just starting out? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
