  1. I knew it was one of those easy, but I'm overlooking the obvious, kind of solutions! Thanks for the help!
  2. I currently live about 3/4 of a mile from the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota, and do an equal amount of caching in each state. Since my eXplorist 600 only allows so many caches per file, I've used GSAK to set filters to group my caches I have downloaded. How I've done it so far is I just set a mile radius from my home for my filters. EX: My first file is 0 - 20 mile radius. Second file is 20 - 30 mile radius. Etc..... This has worked out great for moving all the caches onto my GPSr, but now I have another problem I'd like to take care of. Since I live on the border, and a river separates the two states, there are only so many bridges you can go across. SO....when I go to "goto geocache nearest to position", a lot of the time it pulls up caches on the opposite side of the river that I would need to drive 5 - 10 miles out of the way to get to the bridge to cross. SO! With that said, I'd like to continue setting up GSAK with a radius search from my home, but I'd like to separate them by state. I'd like all the WI caches in certain files, and all the MN caches in others. Is there a way in GSAK to separate caches by state? Thanks for the help!
  3. I use the Dell Axim X50 for all my paperless caching. I like to use GPXSonar! What I do is I take the GPX file that I get with my Pocket Queries, copy the file, open Windows Explorer, under My Computer I go to Mobile Device, and then paste that GPX file into there. The file will go where it needs to be, and GPXSonar will automatically detect and load it.
  4. I have found that the Geocaching software on my 600 is not as great as it sounds. I tried it at first, but decided to purchase a PDA and run GPX Sonar for all my cache info. I'll let my 600 stick to what is made for, navigating to the location.
  5. When I purchased my eXplorist 600, I fully realized from reviews that the maps that come with the unit itself pretty much are worthless. With that in mind, I also ordered a 1GB SD card so I could load maps up on it, and not having to worry about if I had sufficient space. Now that I'm ready to order some software, I'm not sure on what I really should get. I'm looking for software that shows more roads on it. Basically, where I live, the interstate is the closest road that shoes up on the standard map software. Question What is the huge different between the TOPO 3D and the DirectRoute software? What are the + and - of each one? One other thing: I know the TOPO tends to cost more $$$ but money isn't an issue. Thanks for the help!
  6. Ummm.....at no point in my first post did I say I downloaded 1300+ caches individually. Of course I downloaded all of them with Pocket Queries. At that point, I took them into GSAK, filtered them, and converted them to .LOC files. What is the need to load all the details of a cache (that a GPX file has) onto my GPS when I have the entire GPX file loaded on my Pocket PC?!?!?! Look at it this way: I took and converted the exact same set of downloaded caches into 1 GPX file and 1 LOC file. The GPX file was 5.86MB while the LOC file was 312KB. It's a no brainer as of WHY I loaded the LOC file on my GPS and the GPX file on my Pocket PC. All you need is the name of the cache and the coordinates on your GPS. I understand how to delete a regular POIs as you mentioned, but with Geocaching POIs, I don't quite understand what you're talking about. Are you speaking about flagging found caches in GSAK, because I haven't seen a way to flag a Geocaching POIs on my GPS.
  7. For the past week, I've finally obtained a better grip on how to run my new eXplorist 600. My first hurdle was the fact you can only hold 200 full description caches on there. So I changed all my 1300+ caches I have downloaded to .LOC files, and used the distance filter on GSAK to make files of 500 or less. Then, I sent the 1300+ GPX files to my Pocket PC to go the paperless route. (IMO - eBooks are a pain in the ***! I found that GPXSonar or GPXView are way better) Here's my current question: After I find a cache that is on my 600, is there a way I can delete that single cache, and not the entire file containing 500 caches? Just so you know, I don't know what Firmware I'm running on the unit, and Magellan's webpage obviously won't let me download the latest Firmware due to the fact they haven't fixed that link! Thanks for any and all help!
  8. Thanks! Well, that's my next step is to purchase a PDA. I see a lot of people suggest Palm based PDA's, but I can't stand to use Palm and like Pocket PC better. Is there any advantages or disadvantages with using either of these two OS on PDA's for GeoCaching?
  9. I recently purchased the Magellan eXplorist 600 online, and I'm currently waiting delivery. I know it comes with the GeoCache Manager, but even Magellan's own website doesn't go into depth on what this "feature" is all about. Is this just a file manager, like Windows Explorer? The reason I'm asking is because I'm in a big debut on whether or not I should purchase a PDA to go paper-less, or go the printing route. If the GeoCache Manager is nothing more then a file manager for coordinates, then I would like to go the PDA route and eliminate the paper trails. Thanks for any and all help, and please keep this post on track. We don't need an opinion war on what is and isn't good GPS and/or PDA hardware.
