  1. This thread is proof that the world is going to hell in a hand basket!!!
  2. I will no longer be a newbie after I die. Until then I hope to still learn something on every trip.
  3. I am a minimalist I guess. I carry my gps, cell, and the print out sometimes.
  4. Well I for one am not into much writing or expresion for that matter but I atleast leave a note both online and in the log, just to say thanks atleast.
  5. I have used a GPS 12 for years for hunting and fishing and have just upgraded to a GPS 60 which gives you the ease of downloading waypoints. The GPS 60 was only $150 from tigergps.com and shipping was very fast as well.
  6. I would ask, no BEG for the new chip set in a basic GPSr like the GPS 60. I am a simpleton and don't want or need the color or the maps. I like the speed of th processor in my new 60 but would love to have it with the ability to keep a lock under a pine tree!!!! My old GPS 12 keeps a lock a little better than my new 60 does, no matter how I hold them. But the old 12 is just way to dang slow. If you stop it takes several steps for it to realize that you are moving, and you have to keep moving fairly quickly through the woods for it to continue navigating.
  7. I have a GPS 12 that is older than dirt but still works great and a GPS 60 that is only a few days old. The only 2 I have ever owned.
  8. After reading all this I am glad I am a cheap skate and just spent the $150 for the GPS 60. It is soooo much better than my old GPS 12. It doesn't really hold a lock any better but the processor seems to be miles ahead of the old 12.
  9. Yep I am a lurker. Just here soaking it all in. Looking for a way to rub my noobyness off.
  10. Well I went and did it anyway. I ordered a Garmin Gps 60. I really don't need the map stuff but I do hope this unit will keep a better lock and be a little more accurate than the GPS 12 I am using now. Heck it is just $150. They are making more money everyday.
  11. Check the faq's in this forum.
  12. Man what a response already. Thanks. I was actually looking at the Legend or the basic GPS 60 for an upgrade. Both should be well under $200. Another reason I am a little shy about upgrading is I can ue the GPS 12 with my eyes closed. I hate to learn another unit all over again.....
  13. OK this topic has now gotten me totally confused. I was seriously considering an upgrade from my old but steady GPS 12 to a Legend, but now I am not sure what to do. Grrrrrrrrr
  14. I have just started doing this caching thing and am loving it. I have been using my older (about 3 or 4 years old) Garmin GPS 12 and it seems to be doing fine. My question is are the newer WAAS Garmins really that much better? I am such a cheap skate that it is hard for me to drop money on an upgrade without some sort of input from others with much more experience. Thanks in advance for any help.
