  1. They have a full size replica for, I believe, $32, and a cool pin (about 1" diameter) for around $8. I opted for the pin, but I still might go back and get the full size one, seeing as I'm enjoying hunting benchmarks so much. --Marky

  3. The first time I learned how was on the multi-cache "A Sunny Day in the Park", which is an awesome day long multi-cache ending with a projected waypoint to the final cache. (As noted before, Magellan Meridians can project waypoints.) --Marky

  5. Here is what I was doing: Driving in the car, the Platinum plugged into the cig lighter via the power cable. When I would stop, I would just undo the cable (and the Platinum would complain about losing external power). It was during one of these disconnects that it seemed to flip orientation. Once I started turning the device off before connecting/disconnecting, I haven't had the problem since. Could be unrelated to the above though, but that is my story and I'm sticking to it! --Marky
  6. It showed up as COM3 when I did MapSend's autodetect. Works great on my iMac. Haven't tried it on my iBook yet. --Marky

  8. I purchased a Magellan Meridian Platinum on the 4th, along with MapSend topo US and a 32 meg SD card. When I got home and unpacked everything, I realized that the PC cable provided by Magellan was a 9 pin DB serial connector. My iMac only has USB and no serial ports. The next day, I went to Fry's and found a USB PDA/SERIAL Adapter by IOGear (model GUC232A) for $39. It took a bit of work to get Virtual PC to find the Driver on the CD provided by IOGear, but once I did, all I had to do was go into MapSend and have it AutoConfigure the GPS port. I found that the max baud rate I could get was 19200 (I'm not sure if MapSend is limiting that, or the IOGear driver). Now everything is working fine and didn't cost me too much in additional hardware. --Marky
