  1. Ah ok found it. I had seen the tide stations, but I thought that was just a Point of Interest like all the rest of the POIs (where you access it from on the 60 csx). I didn't think it would list the actual tides there. For some reason, in my confused brain, I thought it would be more intuitive to list the tides in the Sun/Moon page. Thanks
  2. For some reason I thought the Garmin 60 csx had tidal data (high and low tide times) on it. But I can't find it anywhere. Was I just imagining it or is it hidden somewhere? Thanks
  3. Well I got my RAM mount today and all I can say is this thing is ROCK SOLID I'll need to get a longer power cable to mount it where I really want it, but the mount itself is far superior to the Garmin mount I had for my eTrex, and for about the same price. I highly recommend this mount: Ram mount at gpscity.com .
  4. I just bought a new 60 csx to replace my aging eTrex Legend (original black and white, low/no sensitivity model) and it is just great! I think there is still a lot of life left in that model line. And just think, I bet you could just buy a new 60 csx for a LOT less than you bought your first one...and certainly a lot cheaper than a Colorado or Oregon
  5. Wow thanks for the great pictures Prospero Do you have any vibration issues with your setup?
  6. Thanks, I just went and checked those out. One question...does the windshield suction cup hold better than the Garmin suction cup mount?
  7. I am looking for a secure 60 csx mount, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I have had problems with Garmin windshield suction cup mounts in the past...the darn thing would never stay attached to the glass. I do a lot of off-road driving, so I need something secure. For example I don't think a bean bag type would work at all...it would just slide around. I currently have a vent mount, but its a pain to attach/remove, and when I have the AC on, not only does it block the airflow, but also causes condensation on the back of the gps unit. I also want to avoid any sort of permanently mounted dash mount or anything else that screams "break in and steal a GPS unit". I realize that eliminates the vast majority of mounts, but does anyone have any other ideas?
  8. Try doing some searching on this topic, both here and across the internet. I read something, somewhere about it actually being the 12v adapter, not the GPS unit. I believe Garmin had modified the adapter and was exchanging these for little or no cost. Or just try calling Garmin and ask them....
  9. I just ordered mine at the end of last week too from Walmart. Normally, they charge $328.88 for the unit, but right now they have a special buy for a package that includes the Garmin carrying case for $310.84: Garmin 60 CSX with Carrying case at Walmart Being able to return it (if I needed to) at a brick and mortar was a big plus for me after a bad experience with an online retailer .
  10. Yeah I think the manual staes to hold the unit level and slowly turn in a circle. It doesn't say turn the unit, so one would assume the person turns. But you're right, you only need to spin the unit After I disconnect/reconnecting the battery of my car I have to recalibrate the compass by driving around in circles...too bad I just can't spin it around in my hand!
  11. Well a 60 CSX and Topo 2008 from Amazon is about $380, so it's roughly a $100 savings. And about a $200 savings over a Oregon 400t. So I see a savings there; not everyone has $100 to throw around...maybe you can throw a $100 bill my way if you have too many Aside from that there are the list of "issues" with the Colorado and Oregon that don't make it as useable to me (for example the screen visibility and, occasional at least, accuracy problems). Just looking at the list of Colorado and Oregon "bugs" on their respective wiki's can make your head scramble. Colorado issues Oregon issues I don't think anyone can deny the tried and tested capabilities of the 60 csx. It may not have some of the fancy bells and whistles of the other two models, but it has proven itself over the years as one of the most solid and reliable recreational GPS units. Some people can deal with the issues and love their Colorado or Oregon. Just read all the facts and make your own informed decision.
  12. I don't know if this has been posted about before, but I was browsing around crutchfield.com and noticed they have this cool exchange program where you send in your old electronic devices...cameras, mp3 players, cell phones....and yes GPS devices for a store credit. Anyway, you go through a couple of steps of self appraisal of your device, send it in, they evaluate it and then send you an electronic gift card. I was a bit skeptical, but I sent in my old, black and white, 'no-sesitivity' eTrex Legend (which was still in very good condition)...and they sent me a gift card for $94.25! Wow, I couldn't believe I got that much for it. Anyway, I just wanted to give folks a heads up of this alternative. www.cexchange.com
  13. Personally, I review the list of changes/fixes in the update I am planning on installing first, and if I do not see anything that fixes a problem I am having or is something I see as positively beneficial, I don't do the upgrade. Unless you are really getting a benefit out of it, why bother risking update problems? I am not sure what was exactly in the last Vista update to incent people to install it, but I bet those folks are wishing they had not. I think, at least in some cases, you can revert to an older version, but why even hassle with doing that if the update isn't going to give you a measureable benefit? When I got my 60CSX last week, it had 3.60 on it. I checked what 3.70 had to offer.... Fix issue where bathymetric (underwater depth) lines would not show up in non-marine night color mode. Fix issue where tide page can show the wrong date. Fix shutdown when the day view calendar page has more than 9 waypoints and a point at index greater than 9 is deleted. Fix issue where tracklog setting was changed when unit was put into mass storage mode. Except for maybe the last one, I dont get much from those. Since I check the tracklog settings whenever I start tracking, it's no big deal to not update. So I didn't bother. Perhaps I am just being paranoid, carrying a fear over from my original eTrex Legend where the update software said something to the effect that if this thing blows up your GPS, too bad, your SOL.
  14. Are these still available? I would be interested in 5 of each. Thanks!
  15. Thanks for the reply's folks!! I really like the new 205Ws, but I'm leaning towards the more rugged 60 CSX for my off roading adventures and better ability to handle tracks and upload multiple routes. I am also thinking of eventually installing a RAM mount and getting a cheap laptop and using the 60 CSX to feed GPS data to the laptop while on a trip. The real drawback for me is the 60's text input via the rocker & enter buttons...this is just too tedious. I also wish the 60 could display the cool DEM views of the terrain. This would be very handy off road. With the associated bugs with the Colorado & Oregon (screen brightness issue for example) I am steering away from those. If the 205W just had the 60's track and route capabilities, it would be my perfect unit I believe
  16. Lets say I am traveling a long route from A to B. Mid-route I want to get off at the next exit and stop at a restaurant, so I search for the nearest restaurants, select one and choose to navigate to it. Then after leaving the restaurant, I want to resume navigating to destination B. Can a GPS Map 60 CSX do this? How about a Nuvi 205W? If not either of these, which ones, if any, can do this? Thanks!
  17. Regarding the Oregon's display brightness/readability, if you go to the Oregon mini-site at: Garmin Oregon Mini-Site And then go to the Image Gallery, there is a shot of them using the Oregon out in the bright, direct sunlight (reminds me of the Sedona, AZ area). Anyway, the screen looks very readable in the picture. Is this what it really looks like in reality? I've seen the photos on g-o-cashers wiki site (and thanks for all the great work), but sometimes pictures dont do reality justice. I wonder if Garmin doctored the pictures on their min-site or what, because their photo and what I read here just doesn't jive...... Heh and do you like that....my first post in 6 years since joining Edit: Here is a picture I can link to of the same shot, only a cropped version, from Garmin's blog: .
