  1. HA!! If I could summon the courage to get to that one I'd definitely get a laugh. I love the snake idea too. I would get a kick out of a prank like that, although I'm sure I would squeak and scare passersby on nearby trails.
  2. Well if their intention was "thermonuclear war" they brought a knife to a gun fight with this maps debacle.
  3. Yikers! I use a stamp on larger logs and so do several really prolific finders in my area. Will I have to switch to a quill?
  4. It's really helped me to do a 360 around the approximate location - if my gps shows me it's in a little thicket or in a bush. I can't tell you how many times I've plowed in and gotten all scratched up just to find the cache, turn around and see a nice clean trail out. Also do the 360 in the smaller region where you're "sure" the cache is - the obvious tree, stump, whatever. Going in circles helps you see all sorts of clues - footprints, oddly placed rocks, reflections, etc. that you won't see looking at your GPS. I actually prefer the trail hides for this reason. I like a little time to think and solve the puzzle without having to fake a call or make that SOUND those dang lamp skirts make Always read the previous logs - especially if you're peeking at them online a day before you go - if people say "easy fun find" or "my two year old made the find" or the like, then I know that my brutally thorny stupid way in is probably wrong
  5. Oh bummer That looks like it was a beautiful spot.
  6. Oh my! Hope someone wasn't signing the log at the time!
  7. Since I don't think it would make all my skin melt off like in Raiders of the Lost Ark I wouldn't mind at all But I agree with Cezanne - the best ones draw you to something interesting/beautiful. There's one in my fave vacation destination that is at a chapel with a fascinating story - great spot for a cache. I've also seen sin themed ones here and other fun, lightly done themes along the same line. None of that is as offensive as the dead rat I found under a lamp skirt
  8. I searched and didn't find this topic so apologies if it exists. If you choose multi-quote, it doesn't show you the quote in Fast Reply mode - only if you switch to the full editor. Is this by design, or something that is a bug? So if I've quoted a post in the middle of the page, (and then gotten distracted reading subsequent posts ) I can't tell without scrolling back up that I've chosen to quote that message by looking at the reply field. Thanks!
  9. I think it's okay to see the questions again and again from newbies. I manage a different community, and experienced people can forget how confusing and intimidating forums can be at first. It's nice to have a real person share their tips when you're new instead of doing some solitary exploring of threads when you feel lost. I know I'd rather talk to a human than an FAQ.
  10. I just did a very, very fun cache that required a special "tool" and it hinted at it in the description - I enjoyed it a lot. I don't mind being asked to bring something special especially if it adds to the mystery, but I would like a hint before I hike 5 miles.
  11. We should come up with some sort of award for the hardest, stupidest, thorniest, pokiest, least logical route into a cache. I'm pretty sure I could dominate that
  12. I feel your pain - I wish I could find out what the real name for what I call "Texas trippy weeds" is - they are like those grindylows in Harry Potter - I swear they grab cacher's ankles. I'd like to eradicate them. I agree with Chief301 - when I started I was obsessed with letting the GPS tell me I was 3, 2, 1 feet away. I find I'm a lot more successful putting it away at 20 feet out and using my eyes and my head.
  13. No - what is it? The park where I started geocaching is a traffic battle between Frisbee golfers and geocachers though...
  14. Oh - I apologize for that confusion! Thank you!
  15. I see them below each topic - here's a screenshot...
16. I searched and didn't find a topic (although I'm sure it's already on a fix list somewhere) but the social sharing options still include Buzz instead of G+.
  17. Ha! Okay - no worries - you are right - one I found this morning was so crammed full of baggies I almost didn't get it closed. Most of the time when I've found wet logs it's because the bag came open when it was stuffed back into the baggie forest. Thanks for the advice!
  18. HA! I love that you're the "muggle neighbor" You might have to post a pic of your wire weed contraption
  19. Laminating is in no way permanent. It gets creased or peels. I often find a piece of paper with two separate sheets loose of plastic attached to the TB. Some people write on a sheet of paper or cardboard, and place everything in a ziplock, and it holds up for a long time. Maybe it's just the luck of the draw. You might try a sheet of plastic (write with a sharpie or paint pen). Or use thick paper or cardboard and slip that into an ID badge cover. If you have some material that doesn't disintegrate when wet, and ink that doesn't bleed or fade, that's perfect. Ah - good point - I will put the TB I'm moving to another state shortly and put it in a zippie before it goes into the next cache. It has a luggage tag with a cute pic on it and it wasn't in a bag when I got it.
  20. Yes, this The best way to deal with it is to be friendly and welcoming yourself. PS - welcome!
  21. Hmm that's a good idea - I've never thought of using it that way, although I do take photo "breadcrumbs" to keep from getting lost... "turn left at stump by big rock"
  22. It's a setting on your phone - mine do not contain EXIF data... You can test it here on the photo I took on GC1C49D
