  1. They have reached an agreement, casino employees will be back at work by 5pm and State workers are ordered back for tomorrow.
  2. Similar destruction in Brendan Byrne State Forest and surrounding areas.
  3. Sorry, I don't live close enough to Philly, but check with AviStar Parking, my friend just used them out of Philly and they were cheaper than airport parking.
  4. It is not a matter of saving them money. The New Jersey Constitution does not allow that Goverment to spend any money without having an adopted budget in place. The state failed to pass there budget on June 30th, therefore they do not legally have the right to spend money. They could and probably do have billions of dollars at their disposal, by law they cannot spend it because of the constitution. Common sense says that this is not helping the budget problem, but since when does common sense and the government run in the same circles.
  5. Well I just drove through Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, all the roads and trails are accessible, you can't enter the parking area for Pakim Pond though. Otherwise if you wanted to go caching there this weekend, if things are not settled by then, it still looks like it would be ok.
  6. My guess is that unless it is gated off you can still access it and the worst that would happen is if there is still a ranger on duty you would get warned. I can't speak for what's being planned in New Joisey, but when the Feds went through a shutdown, they posted a ranger at the gate (law enforcement = essential) who told us that anyone caught on park land would be prosecuted for criminal tresspassing. I fear that the Jersey government is trying to make the closure as painful as possible on ordinary folks, and that would include zero tolerance in the state parks. I guess the theory is that the more suffering they can create, the more ordinary folks will call and demand some compromise. They've closed down the horse tracks and are trying to close the casinos. Why would they leave the parks accessible in this circumstance? Well, I can let you know tomorrow, I live about 2 min. from the State Forest, I will check it out on my way to work. As for the government trying to create suffering for the ordinary folks, I don't think that is the issue here, our Democratic Governor is fighting with the Democratic Senate, there isn't much you can demand when it is only the one side fighting with each other. The Republicans are in the minority and are just sitting back, shaking their heads and watching the fight.
  7. My guess is that unless it is gated off you can still access it and the worst that would happen is if there is still a ranger on duty you would get warned.
  8. Sorry, I misread your post, I thought you meant the shutdown hadn't taken effect. The State office in Trenton are closed, motor vehicle offices are closed, the lottery shut down on Saturday. The parks, casinos and other things as you said will not take effect until Wednesday morning. Not sure it won't happen at all. Corzine is being a stickler, they met yesterday on the 2nd and didn't get it resolved then, I guess we will all wait and see.
  9. The NJ State is indeed shut down with the exception of essential employees. Although I have not read anything about the accessibility of the parks. I live by Brendan Byrn State Forest and their are no gates to close off the entrances so I do not see why you would not be able to gain access.
  10. I make things with seed beads, the little ones, I have done bracelets, beaded ornament covers, beaded bottle covers and other things. I am working on making a beaded keychain using the geocaching logo as a sig item. I don't get as much time to do it as I like.
  11. As I have said before, we cache with our kids so we think of the other kids that also cache, went to Wally World yesterday and found some things in the party section where they put all the stuff to make up the goody bags, for girls they had little pre-made beading kits in a tube, it was 5 of them for .98, very affordable, I do beading as a hobby, I brought them home and had to immedietly pass some out to my daughter and her girlfriends that were over so I guess they are good. Also got some bouncy balls for the boys. My son has a good collection of Matchbox cars that we will start using, I will only pick out the good ones, not the older messed up ones. I know alot of people that cache with their kids, it is really a great thing for the family and the whole treasure hunt and trading appeals to the kids, so don't clean out your caches and get rid of the toys, as long as they are not broken and clean. As for adult swag, I am still working on some beaded signature items.
  12. By posting about it here, probably. Everyone knows it happens. It gets discussed here all the time. Delete the logs and move on. It just seems like by this you might be starting yet another "it's all about the numbers" fire. What difference does it make who it is or how many logs they had between them? Actually posts like these, that of the op's, help those of us new to the game get a good idea of how it really should be done. I read the forums alot for do's and dont's. Yes most of them are common sense and I a little confused as to how some think it is OK to log a find when it is clearly not a find.
  13. Printed out the form and mailing it out today. I thought is was an '07 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. We saw that on the website about a month ago and started drooling over it. There is a high probability of that being DaddyCoz's next vehicle.
  14. I don't know, maybe we are too new and nieve to this game, but we never log a find until we have signed a log book, never thought about doing it any other way. But that is ok with us, we like doing it that way. You did the right thing.
  15. Daddycoz started planning his first hide after our first find. I think we have about 34 finds, but DH is really good with the GPS, he would double, triple and then check 10 times again on coords to make sure they are good. Haven't hidden the first yet, still struggling to find time just to find caches. We do have all the supplies though and hopefully we will get it out there before the end of the summer.
  16. This happened to us in the Outerbanks, each cache we visited we came right after or close to another cacher, we kept noting the parrot erasers in the caches, turns out that cacher is from Jersey, not far from us.
  17. While vactioning in the Outerbanks we picked up TB Rocket, whose goal is to travel around teaching people about organ donation, I live in the town where Deborah Heart & Lung Center is, a nationally known hospital for heart and lung transplants, we placed Rocket in the cache closest to the hospital.
  18. We generally go in my estrogen mobile otherwise known as a 03 Ford Windstar. But we are currently looking at purchasing a Jeep with full intentions on putting some Pinelands Pinstripping on it.
  19. We always try to leave something of equal or greater quality. We cache with our kids so they like going through the little stuff for them and we leave decent stuff for other kids. I like to bead and I am trying to come up with a useful signature item to place in the caches.
  20. We did 13 while on vacation on the Outerbanks. We will be in Clearwater at the end of July and there are alot down there near our relatives so we will probably break that record.
  21. I just got my spray from Avon, it is their Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus with Picaridin, it says it is suitable for the entire family and gives special instructions for the kids, like don't put it on their hands as they touch their face and eyes too much. My kids have dr. appointments coming up soon and I am going to talk to their doctor about it, maybe get some bloodwork done to make sure they are ok at this point or if we need to get them on some antibiotics. My son reacts to any bug bites so even if he reacts to a tick bite, it may not mean the same thing as it does for other people, but they will get checked out anyway. I can't wait to go out again, our family is hooked, I love that we spend more time outdoors now.
  22. Alot of the ticks we had yesterday were very tiny. We will not go out again unless we have some spray, it was not a wise idea to do it yesterday, even with long pants and long socks, nothing helped.
  23. We went out yesterday and pulled at least 10 off of each of us when we got home, besides the ones we caught before getting home, it was really bad. It doesn't freak me out as much anymore. I have orderd a spray with permethrin in it but didn't get it yet. My son has one bite on him that I think needs to be checked out. It wan't stop us from caching, we run the risk of getting them in our yard. We just won't go out again until we get the spray, just too many darn ticks to track down.
