  1. About a month ago I took my Garmin skiing (Alta, UT). Hit 79.8 mph max. Fun stuff!
  2. Ditto Bloencustoms! Good to know there's a few of us around. dteec
  3. I've been doing alot of online reading about hiking the AT. I would love to thru hike it sometime. Probably won't happen until my kids are older. I read 'A Walk In The Woods.' Good book. Check out this site: http://www.kodak.com/US/en/corp/features/appalachianTrail/ Keep us updated on your plans. dteec
  4. Web Application Developer (ColdFusion, FlashMX)
  5. Got a question. If someone leaves multiple travel bugs in one cache, is it fair for one person to take all travel bugs? I'm curious because my family and I were hoping to get our first travel bug today and the geocacher ahead of us took the last two travel bugs. What do you think?
  6. quote:Things are kind of slow today in Bountiful Utah, huh, buddy? And yes, I think I would consider it rude when you whine about a photo many found humorous. I don't really care for the greatful dead, but I'll spare Dru the annoyance of complaining. and yes, your complaint was directed at me, seeing as the last post you made prior to this thread was WHINING ABOUT THAT PHOTO. How do you speak out of both sides of your mouth without it sounding all garbled? It's a game folks.......... Wow, you're taking all of this personally I see. Too bad, I was hoping for a civil exchange of ideas and opinions.
  7. quote:Originally posted by Irvingdog:Yes Dteec, yes. If you would have approached me like a gentleman and explained that people with slower connections are experiencing slower load times because of the photo on my signature line, I would have been appreciative and eliminated it right away. I didn't realize that I was being seen as rude. The slower connection issue was never an issue with me. I just didn't like having to keep scrolling past that silly photo of yours. quote:Does this put your question to rest? Not really, this wasn't directed at you specifically. I was just curious as to how others feel about the issue.
  8. Yeah, speed's not an issue for me either. I'm on a T1 here, at work, and DSL at home. It's not like scrolling is difficult, it's just not necessary, as much, when there aren't useless images.
  9. I would like to get an idea of everyone's opinion on using pictures/graphics within forum discussions. IMO, pictures/graphics, especially large ones, should only be used to help get the users point across or to help explain an idea. However, when a user pastes an image to the bottom of every reply they post, it gets really cumbersome and creates a lot of scrolling. To me, it's the classic "if it can be done, do it" routine. What do you think?? Remember, this is my OPINION and I would like to hear yours. Thanks. dteec
  10. GeoCaching gets me and my family out of our house and into adventures that we would never go on otherwise. My 4-yr-old son love hunting for his "treasures." Gotta love it...... By the way, IrvingDog, could you get rid of the inline dog picture. Gets old after a while... Thanks. dteec
  11. It's amazing how much media coverage GPS systems are getting in the media. Maybe I'm just noticing more, now that I'm into GeoCaching. I have a feeling we'll be hearing a lot more. dteec
  12. quote:Originally posted by Rubbertoe:Actually, I can understand those people... animals and the environment are generally 'innocent' parties. They can't defend themselves against abuse or what-have-you. I'm referring to the extremists that equate the life of a wild animal with that of a human being. I think those types of people are beyond understanding or reason. quote:Originally posted by Rubbertoe:Also, with the way most people act and treat other people, I'm not really that concerned about protecting them against anything. I've worked in retail long enough to realize that more than half of the people that would come in and out of that place were pretty much just jerks. Let em worry about themselves. Attitudes like like are what perpetuates what you are complaining about. If over half of the people you deal with are jerks, does that mean you should be a jerk to them? If so, you have become one of them. dteec
  13. quote:Originally posted by seeker bp (Team E-Trex):and then there are the ones who could care less about anything. Just a little pet peeve of mine... The correct phrase is "couldN'T care less." I bet 99.9% of everyone who uses that phrase gets it wrong. Sorry, just trying to make people aware. quote:Originally posted by seeker bp (Team E-Trex): I have to believe that times will never change, and no matter how hard we would like to keep our world nice, there will always be the ones who will trample the piss out of it. Education will never be enough, It may make some people aware, but only a few will follow eviromental guidelines. Enforcement of laws will not even stop people from destroying. Hell, look at the litter laws, Do they work?? No!! If I could make the world a better place I would, but it takes the complete help of all members of this human race, and that will never happen because not enough people care. Do your part, its important that you do!!! I agree. What bothers me is when people, not necessarily you, care more about protecting the environment than protecting other people. Or, for that matter, when people put the "rights" of animals over people. I believe there's a balance that needs to be achieved. dteec [This message was edited by dteec on August 01, 2002 at 08:32 AM.]
  14. quote:Originally posted by Dawgies: The start of the thread has no connection to Geocaching. I was only trying to make one. My point exactly. I agree with what you are saying, but when I come to this forum I come to discuss GeoCaching, not volunteerism. Unless, of course, the volunteerism being discussed is related to GeoCaching. Maybe this thread should've been part of the "off topic" thread that I recently saw, or maybe in the section that pertains to the Florida area. dteec

Plus, sometimes it feels good just to help without the tit for tat. ~Honest Value Never Fails~ No, I don't see you're connection. On one hand you say volunteering in my community could help my geocaching in some way. But then you say "it feels good just to help without the tit for tat" which contradicts what you just said about "carrying over." I'm familiar with volunteerism and have done quite a bit recently but I don't see the connection between the start of this thread and GeoCaching. dteec
