  1. Easy now. At the time I really didn't that was like my 20th cache. But as I got into it more it bothered me. So I asked for opinions and then changed it to a DNF. I came here to gain some perspective not to get scolded. I fixed it. I do understand the rule of "The Find" now. I learned a lot on that little trip. I went to a cache the same day that had a wet log sheet. It took me 1 hour to find so I let the log dry out until I could sign it. Put a note with my find log say that the log was wet and got an immediate email from the C/O tell me that I should have replaced the log. So now a little wiser I have fresh logs, baggies, and a felt pin. But yeah you are right about that find and it looks like I'll have a chance to redeem myself before Christmas.

  3. Saturday TV Funhouse. TV Funhouse.... LOL ROFL!!! It took me a while to remember where that jingle came from. "What is everybody looking at?" "Nothing!" Glad somebody else got that reference.

  5. Thanks. The closest cache to me that can get me on the list is like 60 miles away but so maybe I'll get to it soon.
  6. I am sharing this story because it is kinda funny. My first actual trip I took caching was in a college town near home. There is a good sized walking trail with quite a few caches and quite a few jogs and the like. I walk of the trail into the woods to find the cache. I made the find and signed the log while at gz. Before I stepped out of the woods. A female jogger decided this would be a good time to stop, stretch and send a few text. So there she is bending and stretching within 30' feet of me. She never saw me and I sure as heck didn't move. I felt like such a creeper but I didn't wanna walk out of the woods and scare the girl to death. Finally after about a minute that felt like 30 she jogged off. Whats your embarrassing caching story?
  7. A guy at work was talking about it and he had found a couple and showed me. I thought it was kinda cool. That weekend I went to my buddy's restaurant and told him about it. There was a couple of people playing music. My buddy told me that they were big into it. I talked to them about caching for an hour and they took me to a cache in the middle of the night. I was a Premium member the next day. I haven't seen them since them but I am in constant contact with them at least once a week.
  8. I notice that there is a guy near me that is #1 in the state and #8 in the US/World. How do you find this information? It will help me realize how miserable I am doing.
  9. Lets face it. I only heard about this sport in August and hit the Ground running. I cache by myself and have collected quite a few caches considering the amount in my area and the amount of time my wife doesn't pitch a fit about me going.(I have to wash her car before I go this weekend) Lifetime membership is a good option for charter members or for people who are striving for world ranking status. But I wouldn't consider spending $250 up front because the sport although awesome is not huge in my area. The yearly fee isn't that big of a deal and for those lukewarm cachers they can decide every year if its worth it to sign back up. I think that not only Charter Members who helped the sport along should have that option but it also should be an option for distinguished cachers who are racking up big numbers of finds as well as hides who didn't get the "memo" on the starting of geocaching...... Example: Mr. Cacher. Started in 2008 and has: 21999 finds 280 hides hosts 2 events a year Should this guy be given the same opportunity?
  10. Is it the bridge where the boat ramp is? The boat ramp should be on the south west end of the bridge. My dad and I use to go there all the time and pick up drift wood.
  11. I live about 30 miles from williamston and will be glad to check it out. I don't know when I will be able to go that way. If you want to email me the cords and a better discription I will do it when I get the chance. I will be going close to it Friday because there is a cache just north of Plymouth that hasn't been found yet. But my travels will be taking me to OBX. Feel free to email me.
  12. At first I wasn't worried about it because I thought I had done all I could do to get to this cache. At the time I thought it best not to stand on a picnic table and grab a pill bottle in front of 6 people. I would have had to explain myself. Granted explaining myself could have caused a Geocaching revolution and people would be celebrating the day that they met up with Maconb be and were introduced to the sport. Or they could say that's stupid and muggled it. So I logged it as a find saying nothing. But it has bothered as I have become more involve in the sport. So I posted this on here. Got some feedback and change it from a Find to a DNF. Because at the end of the day I didn't want to be that guy. Thank you all for your feedback.
  13. Well both of you are exactly right I am now at 258 finds. to prove this. GC10XH6 That was on my birthday too. Dang! but you are right. Thanks
  14. I was reading some older threads and it got me thinking. I have been caching for a few months now. I have 259 finds but one has always bothered me. I went to a small park in a city not to far from home where I saw there had 3 caches placed. I searched and searched for one. And I came up empty It was found and had been found recently and consistently so I didn't log it as a DNF because I knew it had to be there but my "virgin" eyes couldn't find it. The second cache was in the middle of a swamp and I didn't want to get me feet wet so I didn't log that as a DNF because I didn't even get within 60 yards of the GZ before I turned around.... But the third cache is what has haunted me. In this park there were kids playing and what not and there was a nice shelter that for some reason seemed to be a place to sit and play on there computers. I searched and searched then as I looked up in the corner of the shelter I saw, in plain sight, a large pill bottle wrapped in camouflage tape with the word in black marker "GEOCACHE". I was right on GZ but the only way to get to the cache was to step on a guy and ruin his Facebook session. I marked this as a find. Was I in the wrong to do this?
  15. That is gorgeous. I'm in NC so I have don't have the privelge to see that beautiful landscape. My grandparents would go out west and show me all the picture. She also had place mats of western scenes, all of them completely different but those red mountains are what I had always spilled my food on and I will go there one day. Thanks for the picture and an old childhood memory
  16. I was just reading the guidelines and saw where it was talking about the distance a person can place a cache. I'm not gonna link you to it because if you are placing the cache you have the choice of reading the guidelines or just checking that you did. Anyway Its not where you live that effects where you can place a cache. Its the consistent distance that you travel. So if you normally Geocache in a 250 mile radius often enough then the reviewer might let that slide. If you like the spot but can't maintain it you can find a local cacher or friend or what have you to look after the cache. You just need to make this known to the reviewer and it should go through no problem. This is not me talking this is all in the guidelines.
  17. As far as a pad-mount transformer goes they are pretty safe to be around. I have installed and worked on quite a few of them. Only saw one on fire.... Not a good night. And they are supposed to have at least two locking mechanisms on them so yeah they are pretty safe. But "Uncle Joe's wood shed" that Uncle Joe wired up himself because he "seen it on that show" might not be the safest form of electricity.
  18. Around here I only use my watch list to see if the slacker C/O will actually visit their caches. I have had a couple of DNF that I have put on the list though.
  19. Yeah I get the whole "outlet attached to a tree cache" but I don't understand one placed beside a real outlet. Seems more dangerous than a railroad track but I get that too. The fact is I am a 31 year old man having a blast playing a game that children play as well. So even though I have never said this in my life.... Think about the children. Like I said this is not just an electrical cache problem its a safety issue for many levels. Like the guardrail on a country road is always a good spot, though mundane, for a cache but a guardrail on a 4 lane. That’s a different story. I wouldn't send my kids across the road to get that...unless they were really fast.
  20. That sounds great I can edit the logs an add their pics. I'm ready to put this out. My wife, who doesn't understand why I like geocaching was all like, "what if somebody steals it?" well I wasn't using it anyway. So I'll keep this one close to the house. Not a whole lot of traffic or cachers for that matter but it will give me the least chance for it to get muggled.
  21. Some people need to realize that their stats can be seen. Just saying.
  22. OK so I have received great tips on how to put out the cache but the question still remains... How do I display the pictures so the cachers who used the camera can see them???
  23. I have watched countless video on the danger of electricity and have had the misfortune of seeing a man get burned it’s not pretty and it’s a very sobering experience to say the least. That’s a very informative blog.
