I always try to leave something... But I rarely take anything, (unless I find a pin... I collect those) Generally, the caches that are 2 mile hikes or longer seem to be loaded with *really* nice stuff. If I'm heading out to one, I'll stop by the store and grab something decent just for the occasion (left DVD movies, tool kits, snakebite kits, etc) The shorter ones I usually take nothing but I'll leave a koosh ball, or keychain or something... I remember my first few caches, I left a DVD in one and a screwdriver set in another, and they guy behind me traded a buck for each... I was a *little* torqued Contents Under Pressure...

OT: How do you make deer go away?
Acc-Risk and Snarflax replied to Acc-Risk and Snarflax's topic in General geocaching topics
Oh I am so the man... I'm like a regular Bob Villa over here I'm going to rehinge the gate so it swings both directions and shim out the top so it closes itself. She can push her way through anytime she wants and my buttmuffin neighbor's dogs won't come in... She'll just have to teach her kids how to do it... My trees have apples on them so that's why I think she's picking fights with my gate... And UMC, doot is a word I got from a Dave Barry article. It has the same meaning as crap, but is infinitely funnier, (unless it's in a bag burning on your doorstep) EDIT: I also have a racoon problem but that's a story for a whole 'nother post. It invloves lies, deception, and a love triangle invloving myself and my bar-b-que... Contents Under Pressure... -

"the free flow of information" *laugh more* Okay - does anyone actually disagree with what I've said, when I've suggested that some geocachers DO damage the surrounding areas of a cache? A lot of us are careful, sure, but many people aren't. Why do you think it is so horrible that the cave management want to prevent potential damage by geocachers? Especially since the cache was placed without permission. You guys are smoking crack if you don't think people do damage... I started a very difficult multi a few weeks ago where the coordinates were *dead on* and those same coords took you *far* away from vegetation... The area 20-30 feet from the center were totalled... broken limbs, flattened bushes, trails everywhere... the whole area was totalled, and I do mean totalled... The bushes were trashed... I wandered around for a few minutes and immediately nailed it... But after I found the clue, I was dismayed at how trashed the area was... Everything flattened... Either people are impatient or stupid... I suspect stupid... The cache I refer to is... Puma It's not the cache hider's fault, it's the finders who are morons... Great clues, great hiding, great execution... bad finders... Now I'm not the most experienced cacher, but I'm not sooo stupid as to flatten the local veg looking... Made me kinda sick... Another one... I got to the near area... and someone threw all the rocks off the side of the cliff... and I mean ALL... I got there and there were a bazillion craters where rocks used to be... It's the only time I've been so pissed off that I would have cracked skulls in this game... I was hot... I spent at least an hour trying to make it look like no one had been there... and it was very hard... I hiked out in the dark, with no light... thanks to the morons before me... Got lost, got found... In short, Those of us on the boards seem to be responsible... but those that are in between seem to do what they want... I've wanted to get this off my chest for a while... thanks for posting this... Contents Under Pressure... -

I only have 30-something finds... but my favorites so far come down to two... Captain Jacks Trading Post I liked this one cause it was fairly difficult... 1000' vertical from parking and it was full of great stuff to look at... It gave me a full view of the city as well... One of the many times I wished I had brought my bike... American Veteran's Cache This one was sickly easy but it had awesome stories to tell... It was full of Veteran memorabilia... Old patches, pins, stories, etc... I spent more time at this one than any other cache ever... If I was going to place a themed cache, I would hope it was as well thought out as this one... For several years, I've had a mother deer that's visited my house, and this last summer, she gave birth to 2 little deer in my backyard... (I have more photos of the whole process if anyone wants... They're kind of nasty but it is deer-childbirth which most people don't get to see...) Deer Pic The other story is that my neighbors behind me are gangster clownboats from hell, and they have several dogs that will eat your face, therefore, I've had to keep the gate closed in the backyard so that I don't have to shoot my neighbor's dogs while they gnaw on my leg. The problem is, my deer friends are beating the sh*t out of my gate at all hours trying to get in. Last night alone, I was woken up at *least* 6 times to the banging, and at some point she broke the latch and made it in... This morning I fixed it and just now, she banged on it again, (she's now grazing in my front yard...) Any ideas on how to make her stop? Can I spray something nasty smelling on the gate that she'll find repulsive? Edit: the night she gave birth, Newton (yes I named them) fell asleep under my window... here's a pic... Newton and mom I spent half an hour petting him... I didn't think he was going to make it as he was really small compared to his sis... And before you yell at me for petting deer... The mom knows me, I feed her by hand... Newton I know I'm derailing my own thread... but there's something cool about being so close to wildlife that you can hang out with their 12 hour old young... Hey! Did you hear? I found a bag of crap hung on a tree! Seriously tho... Ever since I bought my GPSr, I couldn't find *one* single practical use for it besides finding tupperware, (cuts down on the tupperware parties tho, which I've never been to, but I imagine I would find them extremely boring) You think if it was a Garmin, the crane would have ended up in Africa? /me ducks Contents Under Pressure...
