  1. Nope, no one is responsible for providing a writing instrument. It's just a nice addition to the cache and for some reason early pioneers of this game never gave it a thought, it was just one of those things you included in a cache. Doesn't cost much - 12 pencils for a dollar at the dollar store and it can be cut down into 3 pencils - so that would be 36 small pencils for $1. Doesn't seem like an extra hardship when one is creating a quality cache experience. There's no obligation to provide a pencil, just polishes off a quality cache experience IMO. That doesn't really work for bison tubes. I don't put out alot of micros, but I have put out some bison tubes with 'cache guardians'. I tape a cu-tip stick to the log so it's easier to roll up, but there is definitely no room for a pencil. Like the q tip plan. Will use that!

Lone R, you are so write. Yes, I have put out lots of writing utensils, especially in what I consider some of my better caches or ones I have visited. BUT they disappear. Just got on a roll thinking of the notes that say need a pen. My point is that we should all be prepared for what is or isn't in a cache. It sounds like you have been putting out quality caches for some time. For that I thank you. If I ever have the opportunity to visit one of yours I will BMOP even though you put one in there. It may have grown legs and walked off. OOPS! Sorry. Didn't realize you haven't put out any caches but I did check out your cool blog. Great swag. You are very creative.
  3. Hmmm. Let me get this straight. If purchase or make a cache container, find a great interesting location with a good tale to go with it, get permission for the hide, write up and submit the cache for publication and perhaps provide some cool swag, it is ALSO my responsibility to provide you with a writing instrument. Hmmm. Interesting. Let's take this further. Since I have completed all the above and, therefore, enticed you to geocache it is also my responsibility to provide the following for you: a premium membership to geocaching.com, geocaching app for your smartphone, a smartphone, the latest gpsr, a reliable vehicle (preferably 4-wheel drive), unlimited supply of fuel, a few bucks from time to time for a cup of java, some excellent hiking boots and, while we're at it, tent, backpack and other camping equipment. Ooooh! How about a ticket to Seattle so you can visit HQ to sign the big log. Nope. If I put a pen in a container it is a fluke. I feel absolutely no more need to provide this service than I would to set up a free lemonade stand next to my cache. Furthermore, I do not feel compelled to remind you to Bring Your Own Pen, Wear Your Own Underwear, Pick Your Own nose. And ... Have a nice day!
  4. Are any of these coins still available? A complete set? How much are they and how can I get them?
  5. Hi! I just ordered your book on Amazon. Will let you know how I like it. So glad you put in this post. Mary Ann Really enjoyed your book. In addition to being a good mystery, it taught me even more about geocaching and those wicked puzzles! Thanks for the cache!!

  7. I, too, am new to geocaching and was horrified to find out that TFTC was an insult. Well....I have gone back to all of my finds for the last 30 days and edited all of them. Thank you for making this known to those of us who are old but new!
  8. Is it okay for anybody to take these cards or are they left for the co?
  9. Those are incredible! Maybe when I become a legendary cacher I will have one made. Meanwhile I will keep an eye out for them and continue to leave my cards, too.
  10. I think it's nice to bring some new blank logs of various sizes in the event the log is full. Helps out the CO and the next finder.
  11. I had a tiny stamper made because it it so hard to sign the micro logs. When I chose my name I had no experience or I would have worked on something shorter. The little stamper is easier to keep in the lines than my signature.I agree that this is no legal document. If people cheat, who are they shortchanging? I havent been in the game two weeks but you can bet that I take pride in my finds and will not do anything but try to improve for my own sake. Such a simple activity yet some people will try to muck up anything. Years from now I will probably look back on this and think what a naive newbie I was.
  12. Those are really really nice. Beautiful work. I would be thrilled to find one on them. Nice job.
  13. Where in the world do you live?! Death Valley? Nobody would believe this if you didn't have witnesses. Hope you have better luck next time. Oh! Did you check to see if the dog tag was Trackable? Sorry. That last comment was just wrong.

  15. BTW what's up with old corroded batteries in caches. I just started a week ago and already I've seen them in several caches. Pretty nasty.
  16. I think you should get 2 smiley faces for even looking for the cache after the snake skeleton episode!
  17. What about all those zombies I keep hearing about? Thanks for responding. I no longer fear the unknown! Mary Ann
  18. There's no longer a working ferry here but I sure would like that coffee! Trade you a card
  19. Unless you are trying to cram it into a micro or a nano (that would be a neat trick) I can't imagine this will tick anyone off. In other words, if it's an appropriate sized container and there is space - shouldn't be a problem unless the CO has specifically prohibited it - which I have never heard of. Of course I am pretty much still a newb so take that with a grain of salt... Do you think there is a problem putting our real names?
  20. Uh....I've left golf balls, and tennis balls lol sorry I just come across them and leave them for the randomness of it all. But in my defense I usually leave them in caches that have golf/tennis courts in the area! Thank you to the person who left a golf ball in the second cache I found. Brought it home and my 96 year old dad who lives with us and he thought it was great. Wish he could go with me but a bit too unsteady. That's not stopping this 60 year old who has found a new hobby this week!
  21. I just ordered some geocaching calling cards. They are the oversized ones. Indestructible paper. Think I may have made a mistake. Have our GC name and a yahoo email address that I use only for geocaching. Now here's my concern. I list both of our real names on the front with a message that says Greetings from Powhatan, Virginia. No phones numbers or address. Was going to leave it in caches as we travel around out west in October. What do y'all think? Don't want to clutter up caches or tick anyone off. Just started geocaching last Friday. Already love it!
  22. Oh, Bench Mark, I am so sorry for your recent unpleasantness. I have been geocaching less than a week but have already begun to see spots I would like to hide a cache. Your experience will certainly help me be more aware than I would have been. Thank you for sharing and educating. I agree that you have to just move on about the geocoin. It would have been gone anyway had someone taken it legitimately. Who knows, someone may yet find it and get it back on its way. Keep your chin up.
