  1. I would like something added to the pocket queries. It could be called "Cache with a friend" where I can set my normal query that does not include my finds, then add the username of my friend and his finds would be filtered out as well. That seems easy enough to program. THis would give me a pocket query that we can both share on an adventure day where we both enjoy new caches instead of him enjoying caches I've already done or me enjoying caches that he's already done. Thank you (Please delete if this has already been suggested, I did not read all 50 pages of postings) And I dont thing GSAK does that either..
  2. HI, I’m trying to use the Wherigo software on my Ipaq 6515. I’m having problem because the 6515 has a non-standard screen size that is smaller than most Ipaq. The autodetect feature for GPS doesn’t work for me and the manual configuration is outside of the screen. Any suggestion? I sent an email to the dev Team and asked them to revise the program with scroll bars. They will take it into consideration. In the mean time I'm wondering if someone else has the same problem Arghh2006
  3. Thank you. I didn't know you could do that. I would still prefer the way I described it because it is dynamic and doesn't rely on PQ but this is pretty good too. However, I must be doing something wrong. After importing the GPX (approximatly 700 waypoints), I only see Icons for four of them. The other ones are there but not showing on the map. Any idea why? May be there is a layer I forgot to turn on. All GC numbers are selected. Thanks Donald
  4. Thank you, I knew that. Unfortunatly my provider doesn't send me the email. My provider sends me a SMS notification that I have an email, I then have to type "Read", then they convert the email into SMS and charge me $ for sending me the email. Since SMS receive is free, I would rather the geocaching.com notification be already in SMS format instead of email format.
  5. This is aa fancy way of saying I want the ability to turn off layers of caches when using Google Earth. The most obvious one would be "turn off found caches", another one could be "only show newest caches. I understand the technical challenge of this request since GE has no login capability to be content sensitive, but may be there is another way to do it. Thanks
  6. Instant notification new feature request. 1. In addition to have a choice for all cache type (traditional, multi, virtual...) have one choice that includes them all. I don't like having to create 8 different notification when I could be creating one that includes them all. 2. Mail notification is nice but not everyone has portable email and data rates are still pretty expensive in some areas. SMS (text messaging) has been around for a long time and is more afordable. I would like direct SMS plugins into all major cell phone company. (and don't forget about Canadian providers, I use Rogers At&T and SMS receive is free) Message would have to be formatted to be less than 148 Char. Name of the cache, Type, Diff/terrain, owner, distance from home coordinates. Thanks
  7. I currently have 2 Ipaq for sale and will have another later on once I replace the battery. I'm pretty sure they will go for under 100$. I have use cachemate with it (pocketpc version) http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...p;rd=1&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...p;rd=1&rd=1 Good luck, If you don't win them, talk to me about the 3rd one later on. donald_rouleau@hotmail.com
  8. No problem at all. I actually keep a cache waypoint file loaded in the unit's memory (max 1000 waypoints) that contains the hint in the comment field that has 30 characters worth of space. I use GSAK to create and upload this. Then, I use GSAK to create a 2nd file of the same points for uploading as POIs that contains a total of 132 characters. It is kind of like having a cheap PDA along in my 60Cx. (I do carry a Palm IIIxe as well). One other point on the POIs. When you upload the file you need to check the correct box to say it contains proximity data. I tried some of that stuff tonight (GSAK). What colum correspond to the 132 Character?
  9. This statement is right, When I did my first cache last week, my GPS60 was setup to follow road. The compass was pointing to the road where I left my car. What you have to do is Menu-recalculate-off-road
  10. Again, that's a good observation. Makes a lot of sense for Boaters expecially. With my poor man GPS (my pda), I was using proximity alert to find and not to avoid. The nice feature in Mapopolis was that once you got the alert something was found, it gave you the option of "route to it". I was able to setup a proximity alert this morning for a cache that we drove by. Once the alarm was triggered, there were no action possible except to acknowledge it. From a geocaching standpoint, this is not very useful. Even If I get all the geocaches entered as POI with proximity alarm, since I can't route to it from this same alarm, what's the point. I'm somehow hoping that these forums are monitored by the manufacturers for future improvements. Thanks for your comments all
  11. I don't know where to make suggestion but I have one. Just got a GPSMAP 60CSX. When Entering numbers in a number field (like lon/lat field), This GPS pops up a little number keyboard. This is not easy to use, why not use the rocker to increase or decrease every single digits? That would be much more natural. My 2 cents
  12. That was a very good answer and I think I understand most of it. Let me recap in my own words. I understand the mapsource part and the poi loader part. I uploaded four GPX file by mistake yesterday and ended up with four POI files on the GPS that I cannot get rid off. I found a way, reading these forum to empty those four files of POIs I didnt need so now I have four Empty Custom POI file on my unit. If I understand well what you are saying is I could use one of those empty file to upload my waypoints as POI. I can do that no problem. One question. I still need the geocache waypoints (they have more info in them than the POI). Will it cause a problem to have a waypoint and a POI with the same name at the same coordinates? Thanks for your answer, the more I play with this thing, the more I come up with improvement suggestion for garmin
  13. Do you have a garmin? Is it a GPS60 ? If the answer is yes, I'm curious how you configure it?
  14. Hi all, Just got my Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX last night and I've already spent many hours getting used to it. So far, I've been geocaching with a poor man's GPS (IPAQ, CF GPS, Mapopolis using maplet) and I have been using their proximity alert by Category "geocache". This works great, you are driving, and have no idea there is a geocache nearby and POP, one just shows up in a radius that you have defined and gives you the option of routing to it. Well with the Garmin, it doesn't seems to work the same... In order to get a proximity alert, you have to select a peticuliar cache and you will get noticed when you drive by it. Garmin doesn't let you setup proximity alert based on categories (in that case ICONS since there doesnt seem to be the concept of category in my GPS). I find this a little stupid. The way it should work, you should be able to say: "if i get within 2KM of a geocache, alert me" regardless if you have selected the geocache before. It seems to me the way they have it setup is not very usefull. Any comments? Is there somthing I'm doing wrong, should I expect a firmware update soon that will support that feature? Being new to Garmin, I don't know. Arghh2006
