  1. The coordinates for GCH08W on the LOC file match the cache page, but the eBook coordinates are different. This happened for 1 other cache for me as well (about a month ago). Has this happened to anyone else? I'm not sure if others are also different, I only found this out when I had to enter this waypoint manually into another GPSr. Picture can be found here There comes a time in every rightly constructed boys life when he has a raging desire to go somewhere and dig for hidden treasure. -- Mark Twain 1876

  4. Holster Carrying case Belt Clip I use the Carrying case for my Vista, it has a clear window that protects the screen, and you can put two AA batteries in a little pouch it has behind the clip. 6. Our Sportrak did the same thing yesterday (the 19th 6:00ish EST) after that it read about .25mi off from our actual location. I re-initialized it and it seems to be ok now. Our Vista we had with us still worked properly. There comes a time in every rightly constructed boys life when he has a raging desire to go somewhere and dig for hidden treasure. -- Mark Twain 1876
  7. Looks like I wasn't the only one with the problem. I haven't had any problems since upgrading to 1.10. Software Enhancements and Fixes in Version 1.10: 1. 9. beta test In software development, a beta test is the second phase of software testing in which a sampling of the intended audience tries the product out. (Beta is the second letter of the Greek alphabet.) Originally, the term alpha test meant the first phase of testing in a software development process. The first phase includes unit testing, component testing, and system testing. Beta testing can be considered "pre-release testing." Beta test versions of software are now distributed to a wide audience on the Web partly to give the program a "real-world" test and partly to provide a preview of the next release. 11. Changes made from versions 2.41 Beta to 2.42 Beta: Improved usability of Ownership entry page. All fields now accept alpha-numeric entry. Corrected potential calculator page lockup. Improved usability of Jumpmaster. Added "yards" label on trip computer page Big Numbers mode. Added support for India position formats.
  12. When in the Pocket Query, you can go to the hints page and click on the waypoint name and it takes you to the cache page. Wouldn't it make more sence to click on the waypoint on the cach page and that would take you to the hint??? Maybe it could work both ways?? Right now I'm using Mobipocket reader PC (until my Palm m125 shows up) if that makes any difference.
  13. As I posted in another topic: "After initializing the Sportrak, going through the pages “locked up” the unit. Removing the batteries was the only way to turn it off. I was using my NiMH batteries at the time, thought they might not have been fully charged, switched to new alkaline batteries and the same thing happened. This happened 4 or 5 more times and hasn’t happened since." This is the Sportrak "yellow" - I had it lock up 2 more times whel clicking through the pages yesterday. Any Ideas -- BTW It's 2 days old now.
  14. I have had my E-Trex Vista for four months now - using it on all of our finds so far (63). I decided it was time to get another GPSr for the kids to use. Not needing all the bells and whistles this time I went with a Magellan Sportrak (yellow). I received the Magellan yesterday, not a chance to take it out in the woods yet but I have a few points to note already: 1 - Indoor reception. When holding the Vista and Sportrak side by side inside my house, the Vista tried but couldn’t lock on enough satellites for a fix. The Sportrak had a good lock on 4. 2 - Vehicle reception. Inside the vehicle, both had good locks, Sportrak’s strength meters read a higher lock which may mean absolutely nothing depending on their scale differences. 3 - Acquire time for a fix. Outside in clear view, both receivers off but “hot”, when I turn them on, the Sportrak has a fix in a few seconds (2-3). The Vista takes 20-30 seconds. 4 - General feel of construction. The Vista is way better in feel and quality of construction, it is built extremely solid and durable. The Sportrak feels “cheap”, like a toy. Some buttons on the Sportrak stick when pushed (hopefully this will work itself out). The way the Sportrak’s batteries install it is very hard to pull the “tray” out - I don’t want to pull too hard on the lanyard attachment point since it seems to be as strong as a small paperclip. 5 - Stability After initializing the Sportrak, going through the pages “locked up” the unit. Removing the batteries was the only way to turn it off. I was using my NiMH batteries at the time, thought they might not have been fully charged, switched to new alkaline batteries and the same thing happened. This happened 4 or 5 more times and hasn’t happened since. We’ll see what happens when we put it to the real test in the woods this weekend and I’ll post my findings. Remember - the above is just MY findings and MY opinion. Everyone play nice.
  15. I can't seem to get this to work from my home coordinates (near Buffalo, NY). I can't even grab all (or any) NY caches. It seems to load them, says done, and goes to a blank screen. For testing purposes I tried Michigan (since there was a post here that said it worked for them) that worked fine showing all the caches. Any ideas?? This program would help us out since we are on the border with Canada, and we would like to be able to split up US and Canadian caches.

  18. quote:Originally posted by dinoprophet:I have a Garmin eTrex. ............... is it *really* within 14 feet, or is it cumulative with the 49 feet (in which case, what is the accuracy really)? I'd say 14 feet was correct. You were probably receiving DGPS corrections from WAAS satelite. GPS accuracy - 49 feet DGPS accuracy (WAAS)- 10 feet
  19. Well I've been too busy playing to actually read the instructions............ maybe soon though.

Rob On my Vista I do the following -- Go to "Main menu" Select "mark" use joystick button to go up to "location" press joystick button enter coordinates change waypoint name if you choose to in the same manner.
