  1. Thanks. That's what I wanted to know. I didn't realize it was classified separately. I must go caching there one day. Sometimes caches are listed in the wrong country by the cache owner and this isn't noticed by the reviewer. Sometimes the error is noticed - often years later - and corrected. I too only collect caches listed in the UK and find later that they're not being updated. When I check the cache is really in another "country": most commonly Northern Ireland . I think you're right and this is one factor. Maybe playing with the Geocaching Live API is another factor. I'm still missing something but it does seem to come down to something I've done. At least I've learned some geographic history. Thanks all.
  2. Very good. Mods, please move this to the IOM forum. Has it changed recently, or has it been categorised on GC.com as it's own country for a while? It doesn't bother me either way, I'm just trying to figure out how I got these caches in GSAK in the first place as I only import UK caches.
  3. Actually - as I understand it - the IOM has never been part of the UK. After a history of to-ing and fro-ing between (I think) Norway and Scotland) the Island became a "property" of the Crown of England in the 14th century or thereabouts. However it never became a full part of tGreat Britain or the UK. It remains a self-governing dependancy - with its own, very old established, Parliament - The Tynwald. If I am incorrect here I am sure Happy Humphrey (or someone else from the island will put me right  I'm sure you're right in a political sense, though I was really referring to it in a Geocaching sense. It was in the UK until very recently. It's now classified as a country of it's own. Kinda messes with my (and no doubt many other's) PQs.
  4. I can't find anything about this in the forums. Seems an odd move. Is it permanent? It would be good if the newsletter told us useful things like this.
  5. I also use GSAK corrected coordinates, but I keep all active caches in the same database. I use Memory Map to plan my route and a great macro (rMMe) which exports the cache icons to the mapping app withh separate icon for corrected coordinates. As I cache by a walking route I load the route to the GPSr and all the caches within the area (though they are usually there already as POI). I also use this method for multicaches when I've worked out a final location either by logic or when a multi causes me to veer off my route too far. The main danger is that final locations are sometimes moved over time. It's always worth running through the logs first to check this hasn't happened. Lastly you need confidence in yourself, as doubt can creep in when you're searching for a cache that you worked the puzzle out for several years ago and can't even remember how you did it.
  6. It's still not right. I got the emails again for yesterday's PQs just before midnight. Now they are finally available for download, but one of today's PQs is having the same issue. I received the email notification, but it's not in the download list. Judging by other threads about deleted PQs etc, I guess that the developers are messing around in the production environment yet again!
  7. I am having exactly the same problem. I had email notification 2.5 hours ago that all 5 of my scheduled PQs (1,000 results each) had run, but only one of them is available for download on the PQ page. Someone from GS needs to take a look at this as there is clearly a problem.
  8. My 60CSx died last year after a huge amount of use. I contacted Garmin about transferring map licenses and they told me I would have to buy the maps again. So I wrote a snotty email telling them how unhappy I was with Garmin. The response was that they'd sell me a refurbished (new in practical terms) CSx with a 1 year warranty for £88UK and they would transfer the licenses for me. I don't think they generally tell people about this and it may not be available any more as I believe the 60C(S)x is now discontinued. It's got to be worth a try though. I've had the replacement 16 months and it's been like the new one was all those years ago. I get that experience tomorrow. I'm hoping that since I'm getting a 62S to replace the 60Cx they will take a more understanding view. Paying for a new Garmin GPS and new maps would probably put me in the "I don't like Garmin" camp. Good luck. I was told by Garmin that there was no chance they would do it apart from the out of warranty replacement.

  10. Why would you add additional code to approximate the date? Madness! Also, does anyone care who is a premium member and who isn't? The layout has improved a bit during the day, but I agree that avatars are completely pointless.... Nearly as pointless as challenges.
  11. I can only download one PQ at a time now (Firefox). What a nightmare! I used to be able to kick off all 5 at the same time. Great to see we can finally create 1000 PQs now. The translucent listing paper looks much more professional.
  12. Which goes against the guidelines of 'defacing' something. However, if when it was listed for publication the owner had said, "I screwed this to a post" then it wouldn't have been published. If they said nothing other than listing a 'physical' stage at the the location it would have been published. If we are not given details we don't go back to the owner and give them the 3rd degree over how their cache has been placed. They have of course read the guidelines (you cannot submit a cache for review without ticking a box saying you have) so we must believe them, mustn't we Of course they could have got permission to put the tag there, couldn't they? Chris Graculus Volunteer UK Reviewer for geocaching.com UK Geocaching Information & Resources website www.follow-the-arrow.co.uk Geocaching.com Knowledge Books I will reply via email to save embarrassment (not mine).
  13. If you fancy risking getting prosecuted you could always do this. Yes, they are coords for a published multicache on this site!
  14. I just email the person and ask politely if they would either write a proper log or delete the log. I point out that it does not have to be a long log... just something. It usually works. If not then bye-bye log. But then I'd report you to GS for enforcing "Additional Logging Requirements" - which are against the rules - and I would keep putting my log back on. If it carried on then I'd start lobbying GS to stop approving your caches as you obviously weren't playing the GAME by their rules.... Extreme case, as mentioned before I alway write a few words, but I think you're taking it too far. Also don't forget that the vast majority of cachers don't read or use these forums and are oblivious to your "pain" so is it fair to penalise them because they don't know that 20 geocachers happen to think that TFTC means "Crap Cache", whereas the rest of us know it means "Thanks For The Cache" Cache ratings will ease, or increase, your pain - will you delete a log if someone writes some polite blurb but indicates that they thought it wasn't a particularly nice location/cache etc? Need to chill out people - mean't to be doing this for fun, I'd hate to play you at Ludo!! Chalky It helps to read the text you are quoting before you get in a twist. As you say, it is supposed to be fun.
  15. Very interesting. Many thanks.

  17. When you upload a route from Memory Map the waypoints within the route are shown on the CSx as blue flags which obscure the view of the other items on the screen. Is there a simple way to change these icons? I am using tiny-dot in Memory Map itself and would love something similar on the CSx.
  18. I find this GSAK macro very useful. It will give you the full hint, cache size, D/T etc. As it stores them in POI you can have thousands in your CSx at any one time.
  19. I have the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 camera and enjoy it very much. Besides placing the coordinates it also marks the country, state, township and some landmarks too, if you happen to be at one of the places in its list. The camera does take awhile to locate the satellites, but once done you have the opinion to keep the GPS on while the camera is off. This does use battery power though and once you are finished taking photos for the day you have remember to turn it off manually. While in this mode, I believe the GPS only updates every 15 minutes or so. The software that comes with the camera is pretty good. All your photos can be sorted by date, or state, or even township location. I enjoy the camera very much, it takes great photos, and you don't have to go to the trouble to geotagging photos manually. Hope that this helps. Much appreciated. Thanks for your first post.
  20. Is anyone out there using a GPS enabled camera like the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 or the Samsung WB650? I'd love to hear what you think of it (particularly the GPS) as I'm considering buying one.
  21. I would love to be able to exclude a wildcarded cache names, possibly in conjunction with an owner. i.e. ignore "The dull trail #*" GS would benefit because there would be less PQ runs required.
  22. Along similar lines there's always What's in your Gullet?
  23. I believe you mean the Black Mountain, not the Black Mountains (Sugar Loaf, Skirrid etc). They are almost at opposite ends on the Brecon Beacons. Have fun.
  24. The best cache I have ever done has just been disabled because the parking coordinates were changed by it's dedicated owner. Very sad.
