  1. A florin was 2 bob, so there were 10 in a quid or sovereign (an early exercise in decimalisation if I recall correctly).
  2. I like the Profiles feature which makes it easy to switch between OS coordinates for walking and map reading and lat long for caching.
  3. Is it "Round Ireland...", "Playing the ...." can't remember his name or what the third book was, let alone the fourth one which is what you're looking for!
  4. I think I know what he was but I don't know which one he won.
  5. I wondered what was causing that. I had a load of windows open and then that dialog box appeared. Thanks!
  6. http://gpstracklog.com/2010/08/garmin-gpsmap-62s-review.html http://www.maptoaster.com/maptoaster-topo-nz/articles/62s_review/garmin-gpsmap-62s.html http://gpsinformation.info/penrod/62S/62-78.html http://www.geek.com/articles/gadgets/review-garmin-gpsmap-62-handheld-gps-device-20100810/ You can only take caches off by connecting to a PC and deleting the GPX file.
  7. Is it lurking on the memory card rather than in the on board memory?
  8. A friend of mine dived in the quarry on the Malvern Hills a few years ago and reckoned that the visibility was as close to zero as made no difference. The only thing he mentioned was newts! There was a crane in the quarry before it was flooded and he was actually looking for that without success. It was either buried or removed before the quarry was flooded. He didn't mention a car in the quarry (which the cache is supposedly fixed to), just a flat uninteresting bottom. They must have done some levelling before it was flooded because I remember walking down terraces and trackways to the bottom when I was a having a trespass as a lad! Judging by the logs it doesn't look as if this one still exists. Edit Photos
  9. There's one in a quarry on the Malvern Hills: What's in Your Gullet? (SCUBA Dive)
  10. I'm not sure I'd survive the first batch of Maids-a-milking.....
  11. This website concurs with 364 (complete with calculations): http://www.squarecirclez.com/blog/the-twelve-days-of-christmas-how-many-presents/1686
  12. I've got one with OS 1:50000 maps. I give it my ultimate accolade, if I lost it or broke it I'd buy another! I thought long and hard as to whether to buy the 62 or an Oregon but decided I wanted the slightly more rugged 62 as opposed to the larger screen of the Oregon. If my only use for it was geocaching I might have gone for the Oregon. I have to say that the revised eTrex looks quite tasty too. Edit to say that it works well with the Talkytoaster OSM maps.
  13. I've explained about geocaching to several people who have shown an interest over the years. I don't recall ever coming across anybody unpleasant, perhaps I've been lucky. I prefer caching out in the sticks though, where there are obviously fewer people about, and poking about in a hedge is a lot less suspicious than poking about in an electricity cabinet on the high street.
  14. Judging by the state I usually end up in a "Bleeding" would seem apt.
  15. The rules of geocaching given on the main site are: 1. If you take something from the geocache (or "cache"), leave something of equal or greater value. 2. Write about your find in the cache logbook. 3. Log your experience on geocaching .com. Nothing mentioned about retrieving the cache yourself as far as I can see!
  16. I don't know but I would guess that if the signal is being jammed you would get the usual "unable to obtain satellite lock" or similar message. If the signal is being spoofed (unlikely in this instance I would think) then the GPS would display an erroneous position. Edit - 'would' added above
  17. "Ofcom said an area within 5km (3 miles) of the military base could be affected. Walkers will need to resort to traditional map-and-compass navigation while the jamming, which is timed to occur between 9am and 4pm, is taking place. The jamming is likely to affect any GPS units up to 5km from Berry Hill in the Spadeadam Forest. The Hadrian’s Wall national trail lies 2km further south and there are few public rights of way in the jamming area, though there are tracts of Countryside and Rights of Way Act open access land within the stated radius, including Side Fell to the West and White Side and Deer Hill in the Kielder Forest Park to the East." http://www.grough.co.uk/magazine/2011/10/11/gps-jamming-will-affect-pennine-forests
  18. I've got a P7 too, a great little torch. For walking around I use a Petzl Tikka head torch which gives a dimmer more diffuse light but for shedding masses of light on a subject the P7 is magic. One thing to watch is that rechargeable batteries are not recommended by LED Lenser "We do not recommend rechargeable batteries in our torches, as they can get rather warm and damage the CREE chip. We only recommend Alkaline batteries."
  19. Did you mean league club? There's Jarrow FC. (Edit to say I cheated on this one and Googled, sorry to be a smartarse!)
  20. It's India, the home of the dum dum bullet...... Errr Calcutta? DING...etc..... Who was the first person to be granted Honorary Citizenship of the United States?
  21. Every year! Sorry all - missed the ding (and several reminders......) Name the city that was served by Dum Dum airport until 1995, when the airport underwent a name change. It's India, the home of the dum dum bullet...... Errr Calcutta?
  22. Try this DelinvFile - Delete Invalid Files and Folders "Some windows functions allow creation of folder paths such that the combined path + filename lengths exceed the maximum permitted length. The current limit is 260 characters. In other words, windows can create names that are too long for the standard Windows Explorer to delete. The scan function also attempts to identify file and folder names with invalid characters which would make them un-removable via Windows Explorer. "
  23. It could be due to the rectangle symbol making the file name invalid (assuming Windows OS). You should be able to delete the whole folder which should take the file with it too. Obviously don't do this without backing up anything in the folder that you want to keep. Reinstate the folder afterwards.
