  1. I seem to recall that I once found a micro that I couldn't unscrew, so I couldn't get at the log. I think I photographed it against a recognisable background and told the CO he could have a look at the photo if he wished. Never heard any more about it. Personally I don't check logs in my cache.
  2. With the price of crisps at our local being what it is, that's going to cost you a few bob!
  3. Good luck with the Geolympix and the quiz. Ta for the Ding. Most people will be familiar with A4 paper and know that A5 is half the size and that A3 is twice the size. These sizes are ultimately derived from the size of a sheet of A0 paper. What is the area of a sheet of A0 paper?
  4. Judging by the results here I think you may have set the bar a little high for your pub quiz! However underwater - The Abyss?
  5. I seem to remember someone singing about the 'Dawning of the Age of Aquarius' a few years ago, otherwise I haven't got a clue! Edit to say - thinking about it if it's gone from Capricorn to Aquarius it's presumably gone from Cancer to Leo.
  6. It's http://coord.info/GC12GE1 I doubt it's there any more. Several people have tried to find it but come up empty-handed. We need more adventurous caches though, so I hope nobody puts a Needs Archiving on it just yet. I suspect my diving skills are now such that I'd probably kill myself if I went looking for it!
  7. Somebody has put one in the bottom of a flooded quarry near me which is only accessible with SCUBA gear (and hasn't been found since 2010 either). I did once dive in the quarry, many years ago, before geocaching was thought of probably. I no longer have access to diving gear so I guess this one will carry on being a source of irritation every time I look at the map!
  8. Some of the best caches are in places they probably shouldn't be. They are usually out of the way and not much frequented, I can think of a few around here that involve at least a mild trespass. I'm with Pharisee, as long as you keep your head down and use as much stealth as possible it shouldn't be a problem! And it adds a bit of a thrill to a cache.
  9. Oh, bugrit! I don't think either of us are going to get one of Andy's 'Top Cache' Awards now. (Not that it was likely in my case anyway!)
  10. Yorkshire's a famous place for rhubarb, but I guess that you want something a bit more specific than that.
  11. There are some cons with WAAS(/EGNOS): You're using a channel on your GPS for this. If you can't see the WAAS satellite, quite likely in urban, forested or hilly country, that's one less ordinary satellite that you can see. It will use batteries faster, there's considerably more processing to be done using the WAAS signal. AFAIK no GPS will lock onto WAAS in power saving mode. I suspect there are many other settings on a GPS which will use batteries faster than using WAAS, backlighting for example, but your batteries will be used faster. What do you need this perceived extra accuracy for? Your GPS is already more accurate than any map you're likely to own. Many caches are set by people using smartphones, I don't know of any that use WAAS so the improved accuracy of WAAS on your receiver is not going to get you any closer to them. If I was flying an aircraft I'd turn it on, for hillwalking, driving and geocaching I don't think it's worth the battery drain. Others may have different and perfectly valid views, frankly I can't get worked up over it, it's a personal choice that makes little difference in the real world.
  12. WAAS / EGNOS was designed for the use of aircraft and shipping to make precise approaches even when visibility was bad. You will note that both of these applications have an unimpeded clear view of the sky! There are, if my memory serves correctly, rare occurences when the use of WAAS degrades the signal and gives a worse positon than you are getting from the normal satellites. We've had this discussion here before and I seemed to be in a minority of one because I leave it turned off. With all the possible errors in searching for Tupperware in a hedge I reckon the use or otherwise of WAAS is the least of your worries! http://www.gpsreview.net/waas/
  13. There are a couple here. http://www.activegps.co.uk/garmin-etrex-20-accessories.htm No experience with this seller - all usual caveats apply!
  14. Quite a lot of the more exciting caches are premium members only. That would obviously cost you money, only you can say if it is worth it to you.
  15. I just received this from Groundspeak to my email address: "Hello, complement of the day,I am JOY,a kind responsible and humble sweet girl from Africa,i saw your profile here Groundspeak.com and like it.Please reply back at (joyraymond1@live.com) for full introduction of my self, and to send you my pictures.please do not let distance race, or color be barrier for relationship i will love to hear from you soon JOY. User's Profile: http://coord.info/PR6M2Z4" Joy has been a member since yesterday and has not found any Geocaches yet, she's probably being humble and sweet instead. Now I know I'm a sex god but I'm surprised that Joy has been able to figure this out from my profile. I have a nasty feeling that instead of being a sweet humble girl she's a 15 stone bloke built like a prop forward who's after my money. Be careful out there......
  16. I've taken a picture once or twice, against the palm of my hand usually, and logged the find. Once I couldn't get what was left of the log (a wet pulpy mass) out of a tube and once I seem to recall that I couldn't unscrew the tube. I think I left a note on the logs saying that I hadn't actually signed and if the cache owner wished to delete the log I wouldn't complain.
  17. I left a note in my log when I had an accidental run-in with a bull the other day at: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=0ec118f7-e54f-42f1-a717-84f8c156bed3 "Just a moment" I thought to myself, "That one's got knackers." Cows and bullocks hold no horrors for me but I was a bit taken aback to find myself 2 feet from a bull!
  18. The Ofcom GPS jamming page is here: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/subscribe/gpsjamming.htm
  19. There is more than you'll ever want to know about coordinates, datums, etc in the OS publication "Guide to coordinate systems in Great Britain." A pdf is here: http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/gps/information/index.html under the heading "Where on earth"
  20. Thanks! In which country is Byron regarded as a national hero?
