  1. Everyone says it wont work but can't give me a reason. I know I wouldn't abuse it, what makes it so obvious everone else would ? Just Wonderin DirtRunner. Your not first...But you could be next.
  2. I agree with you 100% Sissy! Thanks for the support DirtRunner Your not first...But you could be next.
  3. quote:Originally posted by Markwell:_But when all of the caches get labelled with gold stars, nothing stands out An old saying in typing: if everything is bold, nothing is bold. http://www.markwell.us http://www.chicagogeocaching.com._ I don't agree with you the gold star is only for truly special caches. I've has 28 finds, maybe 4 or them are truly memorable. Maybe two of them I would give the gold star to. So we are able to discern good from the ordinary. You have your own rating system is Chicago, how come they all didn't all become Must Sees? Because people used common sense. My question was only to ask if there was some mechanism that could be put in place that would allow a cacher to quickly determine which caches in his area are worth more concideration. As for traffic jams, hell, shouldn't that be the reward for someone who put a lot of thought and effort into making sure his cache was memorable ? With a five anonomous gold star rule, we would get something approaching what I had asked about. DirtRunner. Your not first...But you could be next.
  4. You know, I like the idea of the "Gold Star" It's simple, and clearly would show the better of them. If a cache gets say, 5 different cachers all rating the cache with a gold star, then it's official and the Gold Star gets displayed next to the cache. Of course, no one know how many stars a cache has until the fifth one gets recorded and trips the display. It would be a nice way to reconize those who go all out to make this hobby so enjoyable. How about calling it a "Hallmark Cache" ? Like dem Gold Stars Idears DirtRunner. Your not first...But you could be next.
  5. Hey! I was just wondering, what is the general concensous on including a 1-5 scale dropdown on how well the finder liked the cache. Not the contents of the cache but the overall experience of finding that particular one. a 1 could be a bad experience with the cache, like it is in a bad place in the city or it should be archived becuase of vomit covering it or something. *ick* a 5 could be an awesome cache with imcredable views or fun and challenging process to get there. a 3 could just be your average, looked for it, found it, logged it, *yawn* next. Every cacher could rate what they though and then an overall average could be posted along side the terrain and difficulty listings. This way when presented with 30 new caches in my area during the week, I could go after the higher rated ones first. We could call it the CC Rating (Cache Coolness Rating) I dunno, what do you think ? DirtRunner Your not first...But you could be next.
  6. I can just see it now... You got a purty GPS... <--shiver--> DirtRunner Your not first...But you could be next.
  7. I hate the fact that I can only buy disposable cameras for my caches in the 24+3 exposure setting. There are maybe 10 regular cachers in my area, I'm gonna have to wait YEARS before the whole roll gets shot!!! DOH! DirtRunner. Your not first...But you could be next.

  9. I have a bad feeling that the immenent invasion of IRAQ might have sothing to do with it. It would not surprise me if the US is playing with the SA again and intends keep playing with it until this whole thing finally gets settled.
  10. I don't get it either, but the guys on the ground remind me of Terrance and Phillip... DirtRunner.

  12. Yea, I was out at that time and my GPS went right into the toilet. I thought my unit blew up or something. By the time I got it back, my error was 116 Meters, it zerod back in a few minutes later but I thought for sure that that was it for my lowrance. Glad to see I wasn't the only one. DirtRunner
  13. Hey My little girl (4 yrs) was afraid of trees the first couple of times we went, had to hold her hand and constantly assure her that bears and lions were no where close. 2 Months later, she's a true bushwacker. Up, over, crawling or stepping over, she's fearless now...I think it's just a case of getting used to a new environment, some forests can be pretty spooky for a little guy/girl. Also, factor in the fact that she never even saw a forest until she was four (we were in the Middle East for a spell), she great on sand and out in the open, knows how to keep cool in 50+ degree heat, just those pesky spooky forests she needed help with. 15. Hey, I know these clowns who placed this cache, they're the same ones who placed the "Battle in a Bottle" cache last month in the Chinese Rail Workers Memorial off the SkyDome. The cache was actually in the monument and you had to climb into it 8' off the ground to get to it. Actually wrote the placers and they felt that climbing into it was ok since two of their numbers were Chinese (duh!), I took it up with Geocaching.com and it was archived. Take the caches from this group with a grain of salt. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him think. DirtRunner.
  16. Love the new Print Friendly logs, hate the fact that the totals are now gone. Put the totals back with a "At time of generation this users had xx finds" or something similar. Then every time the page updates the totals could get updated then. At least Jeremy is trying..."A+" for Effort my good man! DirtRunner.
  17. Today, I accidently entered www.geocaching.ca instead of www.geocaching.com, and lo and behold a web page came up saying that the web site is currently under construction! Is this another Groundspeak initiative or are we canucks soon to get another geocaching site just for us ? Jeremy...Any Comment ? Thanks DirtRunner
  18. I was at the geocaching rankings web site on insidecorner when I noticed that my numbers are all wrong. I have 20 finds and 1 Placement. It shows 18 finds and 1 placement. I even updated the missing logs but I makes no difference. Is the board on the fritz, did it ever work, did it used to but not any more? Can anybody fill me in on whats going on? Any input would be great DirtRunner
  19. I got a 93 Asuna Sunrunner. It's the tracker now, but she got all the guts I need to get me where I need to be, 4 wheel drive for when the road disappears, good center of gravity and a surprising amount of back space if you flip the back seats down. I got the rag top so some of the time I go topless. And she's good on gas too! Now, I spent 3 years in the middle east learing how to drive in some of the worst terrain imaginable, so I am pretty proficient with a 4x4, if you are new to it, then something more beefy like a jeep might be easier for you to get in and out of. She's got more room to her as well as HP and space. Also, any jeep more than 5 years old should be able to be had for a fairly reasonable price. Just my 2 cents Dirtrunner.

  21. I found one last week, and I am thinking about keeping it. But, If I find others, I'll make sure I pass them along. How's that for a compromise?
  22. Hey, I just returned from a cache and posted it on th e geocaching.com web site. The next day I read where there were also cachers in the park at the same time as I was and they said they hid from me and my daughter as we were leaving and quietly watched us. Now, here's the thing that bothers me... Why would they hide from us ? Even going as far as hiding in the bushes so we coudn't see them. If I got to a cache and saw someone else doing the same thing, I would at least say hello, but to jump into bushes and hide ?!? It makes me feel like there's something wrong...so the question I have is. Have you ever hidden from another cacher and if so why? Is there some unwritten rule that I am not aware of? Any Feedback would be great DirtRunner
