  1. My Goal is for the caches I create and place to be considered Jewels of the Region. Meaning, I want the cachers who look at my current placements or see new ones I put out to think..."Oh man, it's a DirtRunner cache, he always has the coolest caches. Hurry! let's go!" I want the people who find my caches to enjoy themselves to the point that they recommend them to others. DirtRunner
  2. OK, Number 1: DO NOT! And I mean DO NOT put anything out there if your GPS is reading 1-4 hundred meters off. Number 2: Get your GPS to a Meridian Repair Depot in your area. The Meridian is a fine unit and there is no reason to toss it if it can be repaired. Go to the Magellan Web Site and look up the details about servicing the unit in your area. They usually take a few weeks but upon the unit's return it usually will come with some free swag and who doesn't like that? Number 3: Snow shoeing? Up a mountain??! What are you nuts??! I know your excited, but let the idea mellow for a few weeks if not months, as you keep turning it over in your head you'll be able to make it better and better upon each review. Other than that, I wish I had your spunk DirtRunner.
  3. I’m of the camp that not all caches need to be found by me. Also, I do not like to suffer for my passion; at that point passion turns decidedly to Obsession. But that’s just me. Just because I would not go for a cache is no reason not to put one out, I am sure that there will be plenty to people willing to go for it. Just not me. So go for it and make sure that the prizes will make it worth the effort and make sure that the area it gets placed in is reasonably safe since you would feel horrible if someone got hurt going for it. And don’t get your heart broken if only two people get to it a year. DirtRunner.
  4. Nothing would honor me more than to have other cachers carry on and extend the Crazy D Franchise. I'll E-mail all the Interested Parties. DirtRunner.
  5. How about This ? or This ? or even This ? The Last one even has a branch office in the UK, and I am always looking to expand the Empire! Use your imagination, it will come to you. DirtRunner.
  6. Here’s what you do… Wait until she gets home tonight and grab her purse… She will try to fight you on it but for the love of GOD! GET THAT PURSE At this point she’ll get really crazy, ignore it and hold that purse. Reach into said purse, I know it will be tough but you must do it… And take your testicles back. There is more at issue here than whether you can or cannot go Geocaching here. Something dark and sticky is bubbling to the surface in your wife. Grab your kid and get out before it blows and you get any on you. Bow! All Bow to the Queen of the Harpies! DirtRunner. (Doh! I hate it when the Spell Checker Screws me over!)
  7. Thanks Jeremy. Could not have done it without you. DirtRunner.
  8. Hey Everyone. On Friday November 7, 2003 I hit my 100th cache! I know, I know, that may not be such a big deal for you old timers out there but this was a goal I had my eye on for some time now. I swear, sometimes I thought I would never make it. Looking back now, I have the following observations that have served me well over the last 100 caches; 1. Water and Jerky…Don’t leave home without them 2. Just because the GPS says go north, doesn’t mean GO NORTH RIGHT NOW! 3. Most people don’t bushwhack 300m to place a cache. Stick to the path, it’ll get you there eventually. 4. Never Geocache in your favorite dress shoes 5. Sometimes you’re just gonna have to get dirty, wet or bit. 6. 700m isn’t nearly as far on foot as it sounds 7. Always carry fresh batteries 8. A Good Mag Hand and a Half Flashlight will save you in ways you never expected. 9. My only regret is that I did not get a chance to meet more of you on the trail. 10. When the woods are silent is the time when they speak to me the most. 11. Watch out for sticks and branches about groin high For all of you still trying, don’t give up, eventually you will get there if you do not give up. For those of you for whom this is old hat, let us see your mapped finds and hear your pearls of wisdom. It’ll serve as inspiration for my next 100 finds. This has all my finds except for 5 that are too geographically dispersed to see and those caches now archived. Thanks for the time DirtRunner
  9. From DirtRunner to DirtNapper ? Your not first...But you could be next.
  10. Stupid question... I could try to create some Icons; I am not bad since I do this fairly regularly for my job, If I created some, would you look at them or just reject them outright? I don't know if I have the time, but I would try if there were a chance they would be looked at. Let me know DirtRunner Your not first...But you could be next.
  11. Hey. I would like to request a new ability on the cache page listings. Where it shows how many people are watching the cache, I would like a link right below it saying something like "Email this group" A page could load up allowing you to email this group of watchers as a common message. I don't care who the watchers are, I just was the ability to message them should something happen like I am forced to move the cache, etc. I figure because they are watching the cache there is a pretty good chance that they would want to know when something like that happens. Actually, maybe you would place a trigger for all people watching a cache that, should the original cache page change (like new clue, body text, coordinate change, etc.), those watching the cache would get an automatic notification that the cache page has been updated and they should check it out. They get all the logs entered to their mail box right now anyway because they are watchers, why not add notifications when the owner changes the page ? Just a thought. DirtRunner. 12. Oh, one more thing, please also return the Travel bug icon, the new one also is horrible. I do not ever remember you missing the mark so badly before. Lets just hope you were having a bad day DirtRunner. Your not first...But you could be next.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Gert: quote:Originally posted by Jeremy (Admin):Hope folks like it. Sorry, Jeremy, but I think they simply suck. So I guess I am not "folks". Short cuts make long delays. Agreed, the new Icons are horrible. Both from an aesthetic and functional stand point. They look like some grade 8’s made them. How much effort must have gone into them when there are still so many other features being requested. I do not remember anyone asking for new icon designations. c'mon... DirtRunner. 14. Value is in the eye of the beholder. What I feel is worthless is priceless to my little girl, she still plays with a rubber ball we got from one of our first caches last year. Who knew ? I've gotten a couple of Geocoins that I thought were pretty priceless. And I also got some memories that are worth more than that. So, it's a a relative thing...relativly speaking. DirtRunner. 15. I have a Meridian Yellow with a 128Mb card Installed, I also have the Mapsends for the US and Canada. I am planning to go to Florida in the next few weeks but when I upload the map of Florida I loose all my Canadian Map information. If I reload my Canadian Map information I loose the FLorida data I just Uploaded. Sssshhhhheeeeessshhhhhh! I understand that we can upload up to 4 regions with the software into the GPS but does that upload have to occur all the same time from the same country CD? It seems to me that the two CD's don't play nice togeather. Anyway, I also am downloading directly to the GPS from the software, Can what I am trying to accomplish only be done with a card reader ? Any simple step-by-step explainations and work arounds would be really appriciated. Thanks DirtRunner. Your not first...But you could be next.
  16. I think my Avitar would look great on a rock! Thanks DirtRunner Your not first...But you could be next.
  17. Totally and 100% super cool. Until I saw your application I was printing out mapquest maps and taping them to one another to see the best approach. You totally rule. Thanks DirtRunner. Your not first...But you could be next.

  19. 25 hours for me. Power went off at work at 16:15 after i HAD JUST MISSED THE ELEVATOR GOING HOME! Had I made the elevator, I would still be there now. Was glad to get home though, Scrounged up a radio and it kept us company for the rest of the night. Good thing it was summer becuase I could take little girl to the park until it was her bed time. Thanks to my geo pack, we had asprin, flashlights for everyone and a first aid kit. It was kinda fun for the night. Of course, the next day the novelty of the crisis wears pretty thin...Wife finally snapped about 14:00 this afternoon but I told her to take a nap and lettle girl and I went to the beach to collect rocks. by 17:15 tonight we were back on the grid. Ohhhhhh exciting stuff eh? DirtRunner. Your not first...But you could be next.
  20. Been there, done that. I like the last reponse to my letter, sort of like "Sorry, I just like to find then without actually reading about the hider's intent. Nor do I care about who comes after me..." Join the club man. DirtRunner Your not first...But you could be next.
  21. Sure, You can contact me via the geocaching web site for my contact information and a chance to tag along. DirtRunner Your not first...But you could be next.

  23. No to sound self promoting but.... Come visit my caches Password Crazy D's Car Lot and A Cache so Nice. All are in Brooklin and within a Km of each other, Brooklin is a lovely century village and the west side of brock road has some lovely turn of the centry houses. Stay away form the east side of Brock though becuase that's where all the sub divisions are and there is little of interest to see there. Come on up and stroll the streets, you might just be suprised. Also, Port Perry is just a short hop away with some lovely architecture also, so make it a weekend! Best of Luck DirtRunner. 24. quote:Originally posted by PDOP's:Has anyone here tried a Members only cache? I haven't because my caches get little enough traffic as normal caches but I expect that visitors to a Members only cache would be more likely to stick with the theme of a cache. http://members.shaw.ca/pdops/ I thought about that but I just didn't want to exclude anybody from visiting any of my caches. I think that if I did turn my caches into member only they would be better maintained but they would probably only get 3-6 visits a year if that. What's a guy to do?
