  2. woohoo! <snoopy dance> Thanks!
  3. Cool. Thanks guys. I figured it was a temporary thing, but wanted to check in just in case you knew something about the site that I didnt know. <-------newbie *Edit* I guess geocoinstore.com is also their site? If so that page is also disabled, but it explains what's going on. They will be back online Aug 15th, after what sounds to be some serious upgrades. Just in case other newbies like me are wondering.
  4. Hi, I bought a geocoin from ebay and I received it today. The thing is, the paper that came with it said to get my activation code from www.geocoinclub.com/code.php. Unfortunately I can not seem to connect to that site. Has it moved or closed down? Or is the site just experiencing temporary outtage? Anyone have the scoop? Thanks, rasj
  5. You should be able to "grab it" from the jeep TB page. Then it will show in your inventory. After that just drop it in a cache just like any other TB.
  6. I'm a newbie to both geocaching and coins. A recent club meeting introduced me to some nice geocoins, and I think I am now hooked. I have already ordered six coins that I really like, and have only just begun. My questions are, do the Geocoinclub coins have a custom icon?, and if you sign up for 2 coins/3 month plan, so you get two coins that are the same, or are there 2 different coins shipped each month? I am sure these have been answered thousands of times, but I havn't seen any such info on my searches, and I didn't see that info on their website. I was hoping the gurus of this forum would be willing to answer my questions. rasj
  7. Works great on my Sony Ericsson S710a. I used it today while out in the field and I needed coords on a new cache in the area. 5 minutes later I had the cache in hand.
  8. Also haven't had any reply to my emails after a week. ( Just igonore it, it will go away....
  9. I can only speak of my experience with this "issue" so I may not be able to shed any light on the subject... When I saw the post about our reviewer not approving the cache in question, I sent the reviewer an email. The reason I sent an email is because I was working on a cache of my own that utilized off site webhosting (my own domain hosted on paid webserver) My cache is a themed cache and requires off site hosting because of the complex nature of the "puzzle." I wanted to clarify, with my reviewer, what I had read because it directly affects the cache that I am working on and I wanted to get clarification before I went any further building the "puzzle." I have not "maligned" our reviewer or geocaching.com or anyone else during the course of this discussion. I can, however, see how it can get frustrating at times. Even though there is no precedent for placing caches, you must admit how it might feel to see this type of cache being approved elsewhere, meahwhile yours gets denied for a reason that is not "really" listed on any guideline. Because the guidelines leave so much room for interpretation, it just adds to the frustration for some. I am not commenting the rest of the topics in this thread, as I have no information to add there. But I do think Hockeyhick asked a valid question in his original post, and I support it 100%. GC, please clarify what "public website" means and/or please consider allowing premium members a little extra webspace for mutiple page puzzles.
  10. I brought that up in my email to Groundspeak.
  11. I imagine that Delorme, being a large business, has paid money to be allowed to list their special cache. I personally don't have a problem with that. Geocaching.com is a business, and they make money from these other businesses, through advertising, large scale travel bug deployment, and also "special" cache listings. Being a business that charges for advertising, I can understand not wanting to let folks put up their own listing page that is loaded with "Get SEX NOW!" banner ads, or any other ads for that matter. That is "free" advertising and GC is probably looking to avoid that as it techincally takes money from their pockets. I don't however, understand why a website based cache listing would be denied all together. I would like to see GC.com adopt a set of guidelines for placing these kinds of caches. Something like... No freebie or ISP based webpages, no banner ads etc, so that legit listings could be placed. I'm not going to bash GC.com for their stance, because I do not yet know the whole story, but I would love to get clarification on this from someone "in the know." I don't think that clarification is going to come from this forum though, so I'm going to be contacting GC.com directly as SCR suggested. I'll post any information that I receive.
  12. I emailed my reviewer and asked them to clairfy their position. I asked them if i could host part of my cache listing on a publicly accessible webserver (a paid dedicated webserver, not a free server or ISP host) other than GC.com. Here is the reviewers response.. Hi rasj, It's the geocaching.com position, not mine. The guidelines state that "The information needed to solve the puzzle must be available to the general caching community and should be solvable from the information provided on the cache listing." And you're correct, "there is no precedent for placing caches" If you want to use an external website, please contact geocaching.com before placing the cache (and doing all the work). They have the final word on what can and cannot be listed on their website. Also go through the Terms of Use. Sometimes you can answer your own question. Happy caching! SC_Reviewer
  13. I was reading a thread earlier about the oldest unfound cache, and it made me wonder...What's the fastest muggled cache? I imagine that there has been a cache muggled before it was even published. Has anyone had this kind of experience before? How fast has one of your caches been muggled?
  14. Most GPS units have a feature called backtracking, or tracks. Not sure if your's has it or not, but It leaves a "trail" on the screen of your GPS (usually represented as a dashed or dotted line.) The trail is where you have been. Using that feature, you can follow your "tracks" right back out to your car(or wherever you turned on your GPS from). Check your manual to see if your unit has this feature, and if it does, turn it on.
  15. When the only thing fought over during your divorce settlement is who gets the "finds"
  16. Ok, what are Muggles? Is this a Geocaching word? "Muggles, geocaching-speak for non-geocachers who are unaware of the game's existence" taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muggles
  17. www.treelounge.com + http://shop.store.yahoo.com/expresspolices...ssubebagsh.html or for easier access to the culprit, get one of these http://www.ghilliesuits.com/
  18. I usually pretend that I'm on the phone when there are Muggles around. That way I just look like im pacing back and forth while having a conversation. Sometimes I pretend my GPSr is my phone. it's a little large, (60cx)but from a distance people usually won't notice. Using the GPSr as a phone is better than a real phone because not only am I pointing it up maintaining a sat lock, I can also grab a quick look at the screen and it looks as if im checking my signal or something.
  19. How many people have gotten a "newly published cache" email at work, and promptly played "sick" so that they leave work and go find the caches?
  20. rasj here. I'm a newbie, but loving every minute of it. I've been learning things the hard way, but at least I'm learning. )
  21. The first cache I hid was rejected because it was too close to another cache (the only other cache within miles, and it was/is temporary unavailable and in need of maintainence). I decided to remove mine and hide it somewhere else. I was a bit frustrated, but rules are rules and I DID break one. My second hide was also frustrating for me at first. The reviewer really busted my chops over that one. My first inclination was "How am i ever going to get a cache published with this "meany" blocking my every attempt?" "Is this personal?", "Does the reviewer somehow know me and is he/she holding a grudge?" They wanted to know how I got permission... Well, I didn't ask *anyone.* I just placed it in a nice park that I live near. That was *not* going to be good enough. I was forced to prove I had permission before it was published. I went through some of the same feelings at first. "This sucks" i said... But what seemed to suck at first, really turned into something wonderful. First off, finding the person responsible for that small park was no easy task. It was near a school, but they didn't manage it. County Park Services didn't either. (but I was able to get permission to hide/hunt caches on county park land while on the phone with them (yoo hoo!)). As it turned out, after tons of dead end phone calls, I finally managed to contact the person responsible, and we had a great conversation. Not only was he willing to give permission, he was excited about it. He was glad to host a cache and thought it might bring people to the park that otherwise would never know it was there. I met a really nice guy and maybe, just maybe, recruited a new 'cacher in the process. My bad feelings quickly turned into gratitude. Had it not been for the reviewer making me stick by the rules, I wouldn't have met a great person that not only manages park land but is behind geocaching 100%. (btw, the reviewer published that one today ) ) I know that at times it can be frustrating, but I think reviewers are doing a great job. Their attention do detail is amazing, and they are enforcing the rules for a reason. Now I look at it as if it were parenting. Sometimes children do not understand or even like the rules that they have to abide by, but the rules are set with their best interest in mind. When they grow up, they usually understand why those rules were there in the first place and they appreciate us for setting them. just my .02 cents
