  1. I've had my yeller etrex apart several times, and I use 3M double stick tape to stick it back on. Works great. You need to kake sure you cut small holes where the side buttons are when you use this method. Warning: Objects in GPS may be closer than they appear!
  2. quote:Originally posted by georapper:how do you people get so freakin many cache finds. there are not even 1000 caches in the entire state where i live. geeeeeeez, get real, what do you do, walk .1 mile from cache to cache and find 20/day 1000? Holy Crap, Maine only has 356 Active caches, give ot take a few! Anyway, Don't forget Watcher's new cache stat ability, and the fact if you filter for just the caches you have found, you'll get more meaningless but fun stats for your finds. This topic makes me wonder though, should there be a caches per year or month section? hmmm...... Get your copy at http://www.clayjar.com/ Warning: Objects in GPS may be closer than they appear!
  3. Now I see why I'm getting inundated with "how do you do that" emails! I'm glad everyone likes the idea, and have gotten good responses from a few caches who have found them in caches. [paste from emails] The flat marbles themselves are the type sold at craft stores, I use the largest size, 1.25" - 1.5". Then I print out the pictures on photo paper, cut the pic to the shape of the marbles, and glue on with clear epoxy. You have to use a little extra glue so it is sure to fill all the voids on the back side of the marble. Then I just coat all exposed paper in more epoxy, and stick a magnet on the back. it's that simple, and they even came out better than I had expected. There are web sites with similar instructions, do a web search for "flat marbles" or "glass wafers" and you should find similar instructions. Warning: Objects in GPS may be closer than they appear!
  4. quote:Originally posted by RJFerret:Did anyone look _inside_ the altoids tin? Maybe there was a micro cache note all prepared with a blank log and mini pencil!? If you figure an hour of effort might've gone into it, it's now worth about $51.50 instead of $1.50. $50 an hour for putting together cache boxes? email me an application, will ya? 5. Not to mention, adjusting stats around density would only promote hiding of caches further from one's own neighborhood, creating other vacation cache type problems. It may even cause plundering of caches near one's home. Competition can be fun, but it often gets dirty. Warning: Objects in GPS may be closer than they appear!
  6. quote:Originally posted by georapper:why does geocaching.com keep track of the total number of finds? the total number of finds has no meaning for me. what does total number of finds mean for anyone else? why keep track? Beacuse this is the only number they should give, just basics. What good is adding in criteria for cache density? There are many other factors. How about we also factor in: Whether the person is employed/unemployed Whether the person gets to travel for work, with extra time for caching Whether the person caches alone/with others Difficulty/Terrain of caches done Whether the person has a Physical or mental disability or is in above average shape What the terrain is of the state of the cacher Financial ability (so cacher can afford to drive further to get caches) Whether the person has other addictions which keep him from caching Whether the person logs his own hides, or logs multiple finds on one cache etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. I think it's fun to look at the numbers, but they are subjective and mean nothing in reality. Geocaching by design is not a competitive sport, as well it should not be. It's ridiculous to want it to be. There would have to be so many rules, and if you think there are too many whiners in the forums now, can you imagine if these rules were in place? The current totals are for your own use. You know how much effort you put in to find them. I may find the exact same caches and it may be way easier or way harder for me. So don't compare yourself to me, or the cacher down the street in the wheelchair, or the cacher/marathon winner in the next town. Just go out, find your caches, enjoy your time and stop making a competition out of this. Warning: Objects in GPS may be closer than they appear!
  7. I love when a cache takes me 20 minutes or so, to the point of being irritated, then I sit down to think it over and there it is! I've hidden two that seem to be a challenge, more of a challenge than even I had intended. And I won't say how they are hidden, but they are fairly basic, yet not typical. But people do find them eventually and seem to have fun with them just the same, and with minimal environmental damage due to being placed with the hide taken into consideration. That is what the difficulty rating is for after all. Warning: Objects in GPS may be closer than they appear!
  8. quote:Originally posted by Criminal:I had a titanium (axial flow) impeller from a fuel pump off a C-141B aircraft, about fist size. If I didn’t like the dadgum thing so much, I’d put it in a cache. I think it would be a cool find for someone. I agree though that there seems to be a lack of common sense by some players. I think we should add it to the list of things that J should add to the site; a primer on trading linked from the hide/find a cache page. I’ll sit here holding my breath until he responds... That's another issue there. If you was to just throw that impeller in a cache, there are probably a large percentage of people that would think it's an old worthless muffler bearing. I see a lot of stuff in caches - rocks, coins, and other stuff - which without some identification could appear worthless and traded for junk. I love the unique stuff like that, but it's be much better suited to be placed in a ziplock along with a description, worth even more if it included some history. I almost bought some cold war era pen style radiation detectors from a electronics surplus place for trade items because they were neat, but unfortunately, they were sold out before I had the chance to even get one. But, like your impeller, without some form of documentation, many would have no idea what it was. Warning: Objects in GPS may be closer than they appear!
  9. No one logged placing the card, so it was either placed there by the hider, a cacher who does not log online, or a logger who didn't mention it. So call time, if any, is undeterminable. Unless the card was in original packaging, the taker would have also have been making a gamble as to it's value. Anyway, It's not worth dwelling over. The best we can do is set an example and educate the newer cachers. Warning: Objects in GPS may be closer than they appear!
  10. I remember that log! One could assume he was thinking the altiods tin had value as a micro container - I guess it depends also on the value of the phone card. Another log I see every now and then is "Coords were good, but I couldn't find the cache". Unless the clue is very obvious, how does one know coods are good??????? Warning: Objects in GPS may be closer than they appear!
  11. I'd like to complain that I have no idea whatsoever what Titus2_13 is talking about. And what's he doing not complaining in the complaint thread, anyway???? Warning: Objects in GPS may be closer than they appear!
  12. Buzz Off is made right here in Maine and has been featured in the news and has been pushing quite a few ads in the news since it came on the market. I can't really give a review on it's abilities, since I have never used it, or any insect repellant for a few years. It is funny that Buzz Off's web site says it repels insects for 2-3 hours though, while orvis boasts 25 washings. I can see where it might last longer on clothes, but that's quite a stretch. Anyway, the web site for Buzz off is http://www.buzzoff.us/ There are a lot of judgemental people in the world, and I think all those people are worthless dirtballs.
  13. Ahh, why didn't I think of that. And here I have been jotting the coords of all those bodies in the back cover of a book. There are a lot of judgemental people in the world, and I think all those people are worthless dirtballs.
  14. Some of the best jokes in the world come from hard times and other disasters and mistakes. In lieu of the recent Magellan mistake, as well as the previous ones, I thought we could come up with some good ones. I'll Start with: Q: How many Magellan employees does it take to screw in a light bulb? A: One, and 200 geocachers to show them where the light bulb really is. There are a lot of judgemental people in the world, and I think all those people are worthless dirtballs.

  16. Dang, and just when I went out and ordered 10 gross of thse red slugs. perfect pets, easy to feed and can be sqeezed into any shape in any container, even those pill bottle micros with a little work. And they just love the damp musty environment of those gladware caches everyone seems to love. I think they should be on the list. There are a lot of judgemental people in the world, and I think all those people are worthless dirtballs.
  17. Go ahead, steal away. I can't imagine I'm the first anyway. Just sneak that approval through now, ok? quote:Originally posted by mtn-man:Screensaver... boy, that is a great idea brdad. I have screensaver production software (yes, bought and paid for) and would like to do that too. Would you mind if I rip-off your idea? Very cool, brdad, very cool. I can see a screensaver based on our http://www.cafeshops.com/_gga.4703649! Why does Sea World have a seafood restaurant? I'm halfway through my fish burger and I realize, Oh my God....I could be eating a slow learner.
  18. If it works for bears, it works for me... Some areas do expect you to carry it out, that sounds ludicrous to me. Is ours worse than any other critter? Of course, we generally use TP, but that disinegrates in no time. I say when in nature, do what's natural. Why does Sea World have a seafood restaurant? I'm halfway through my fish burger and I realize, Oh my God....I could be eating a slow learner.
  19. For the record, I have nothing against 1/1s. My average find prob is not much more than that. My complaint was more directed at having too many of one type. Variety is nice. I'd hate to see all 5/5 as well. Incidently, you should be able to do a 5/1 if it's rated right. Only the second number has to do with terrain. quote:Originally posted by Pat Patterson: Me too, My wife has MD the only caches we get to do together are 1/1. 20. My signature item is a burned CD slideshow/screensaver with pics of Maine I have taken over the years. All legal, but it does seem some might not pick them up for fear of viruses or some other file they might not like to see. What I wonder is how many of these people will take/leave food in a cache and think nothing of it. It's a lot easier to scan a CD for viruses than it is to tell if food in a cache is tainted in some way. As far as the main topic, As long as the CD is clearly marked as to what's on it, and it does not contain illegal files, I see no problem with it. Why does Sea World have a seafood restaurant? 21. I resemble that remark. The person below me was born on June 29th. Why does Sea World have a seafood restaurant? I'm halfway through my fish burger and I realize, Oh my God....I could be eating a slow learner.
  22. Well, I have done half of them from 7 states away... The person below me once took a golf ball from a cache, and left his wife. And it was a fair trade. Why does Sea World have a seafood restaurant? I'm halfway through my fish burger and I realize, Oh my God....I could be eating a slow learner.
  23. Ya, it needs a pick me up. The person below me wants to play with my peavey. Why does Sea World have a seafood restaurant? I'm halfway through my fish burger and I realize, Oh my God....I could be eating a slow learner.

  25. Ya, that's like putting forum topics so close together just so that someone can log 300 posts in one night. Seems more logical to me that you're logging the event. Any caches don't count as standard finds. You can always note in the log how many caches you did find. quote:Originally posted by umc:I can see great opportunity for abuse on this one. As a matter of fact what is to keep someone from having an event just to place temp caches .01 miles appart so that finders can boost their numbers in a rapid fashion? http://www.mi-geocaching.org/ ______________________________________________________________________________________ Caching without a clue....
