  1. The roads in Ibycus' map are pretty accurate. You'll have to confirm your data but they are from the most recent government data available.
  2. Works great. With your permission I would like to host it as well. Al credit given to you of course.
  3. Glad to hear you used it. Obviously I like them. As long as I'm looking at the small picture I love having topos. For large scale planning its computer or paper obviously.
  4. I sent you an email with the reg file.
  5. If you don't want to host it on rapidshare I can host it as a tool on GPSFileDepot. http://www.gpsfiledepot.com The program works well for finding custom map IDs but I will mention that you didn't handle the old maps (US Topo not 2008), see this:
  6. If you email me the file services @ gpsfiledepot.com (remove the spaces around the @ ) I will convert it to gpx for you. It'll take no time at all.
  7. Use Gamin's viewer and see if there are major updates to areas where you drive. That'll answer the question for you. I stuck with City Select 6 for a long time then the military started moving me and I immediately got CN 2009 because so much had changed.
  8. Ah, now i understand. I downloaded a random zip and checked it and it looked good. I was thinking of adding it to GPSFileDepot as "West" and "East" and divide it somewhere in the midwest. Upload speeds are definitely a pain; was really nice when I had a T1 line. Once they are all up on the hosting I can probably quickly transfer the individual files as well and then you could offer both, individual downloads and the large download with a setup file. Hopefully there are no errors seeing as they are just contours
  9. I can't get that site to load. And I could probably host 2.2gb on GPSFileDepot. OK, site loaded. I'm confused. You say you have the 48 states but Colorado, Wisconsin, and New England have what? And I thought 100k quads where 0.5x1 degree (not that its important.
  10. I have another tutorial that walks you through topo creation.
  11. Topo V2, is that a Garmin product? If so make sure you install all of it, all the segments for the entire area it covers. You can't just install part. If you did install part that is why it can't convert.
  12. The only free map that isn't posted is like 14gb and its not mine. With unmetered space and bandwidth hosting large maps like the 1gb ibycus US road map is not an issue for me.
  13. I could improve it. I did a map very similar to that for Wyoming. Perhaps I will update the map. Gotta figure out whats going on with that lake area too but I am moving today and tomorrow.
  14. I am not upset it broke the custom maps; it actually didn't break any of mine. I am more upset with the fact that it is incredibly SLOW! And lots of the POIs report incorrect information; the proportions are odd. There is an entire thread dedicated to these errors and they don't revolve around custom map errors. I love Garmin products; but as a programmer this should have been released as Beta.
  15. For you I would go with a 60csx. Its right around the price range; biggest screen for that price as well. The new etrex series that are H©(x) have better receivers as well. Things to make sure you have: - High sensitivity receiver - Expandable memory card (for all those maps) Also, with the 60csx you can have an external antenna but I don't think anyone does.
  16. I had heard that in my forums as well. I may actually remove those maps since it appears NW trails covers all the forests as well. It would definitely give better quality. This is most interesting. I will check out that area on my 60csx. I'm wondering if the lake is part of the national forest or state park or whatever and thus the thing is accurate but on all units prior to the Colorado series the lake has a higher draw priority. It is definitely something to look into. Also, very interesting that I don't see any green blocks in mapsource at that location.
  17. Most of the non-Garmin maps have been updated to work with the new version of Mapsource. All mine do. Just you wait; you haven't even found 90% of the bugs in this "upgrade". Its slow as molasses among other things. But the reason it worked when you removed it via control panel is because the registry entries are what crashes the new version.
  18. I would totally go with a garmin because people are making custom maps for the Garmin which means you could get more detail for free. And get the H, for high sensitivity receiver. Its worth any extra.
  19. Do you have any custom maps installed?
  20. I've just released my next topo map... Idaho. Idaho Custom Topo Page This map has the most trails out of any. On top of including the trails from the NW trails map that were in Idaho it also includes all the national forest trails from their clearinghouse. In addition; two 100k quads have 20ft contours rather than the 40ft throughout the rest of the state because the area was flatter. This is also the first map where coverage actually stops at the border of the state. Topo map features: Roads - Interstates, highways, roads, limited unpaved roads (Tiger 2007) Railroads High resolution water data - lakes, rivers, streams, marshes, and washes Federal Land Usage - Wilderness area, national parks, and military bases/ranges, native american reservations, some state parks Borders - County and state boundary lines Elevation contours - 20ft or 40ft intervals (equivalent to 24k) GNIS Points of Interest - summits, mines, falls, dams, cemeteries, towers, populated places, etc. Trails - trail coverage inside of the national parks/forests as well as all trails from the NW Trails map. Parks POI - trailheads, camping sites, forest service huts within the national parks/forests 100k Grid Segments - no segment larger than 8mb means most older GPSr's can use this mapset Screenshots A few screenshots so you can see the quality: And a comparison: Any issues or questions let me know. Idaho Topo Map Download Also, I released a map of Wyoming that is great for hunter. Its the Wyoming Land Usage/Ownership map to tell you what type of land you're on. I believe Oregon will be next on my list as well as maybe a few updates with trails to Arizona and New Mexico. Any questions, suggestions, errors, etc just post them here.
  21. POI are custom points of interest that is why. City Navigator (and all the custom maps) have points of interest built in that display at different levels. on my topo maps summits appear at one point while waterfalls and the like appear at other levels. You would have to create a map with all the points of interest and have a registered version of cgpsmapper in order to make the POIs searchable and you wouldn't be able to change them from not found to found.
