  1. The executable is definitely the easy way. You'd have to use MapsetToolkit to install it in mapsource otherwise.
  2. What do you mean by saved files?
  3. Starting to agree that a standard would be nice; but then we'd need to have people know how to use custom types and all.
  4. The above response is correct; this has pictures: How To Load Maps on Your Garmin GPS No, you can download Training Center and then Mapsource. links The ibycus topo maps will most likely meet your needs for some time or at least get you off to a much better start than the basemap.
  5. How To Install MapSource if it didn't come with your GPS (its the same as above) And then I also have tutorials there on how to use it once you have it: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-...armin-gps-unit/
  6. I'm excited; now to make sure all my maps will work with this. I wish they'd release it to developers early.
  7. This will guide you through loading it on your GPS (as long as that had an installer that installed it): http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-...armin-gps-unit/
  8. Oregon is next; then most likely Washington but that'll be a ways off because I want to update my currently released maps for the new Tiger road data. But Washington is high on the list because I want to cover the entire western USA
  9. This tutorial will help you out; it is a bit more detailed of what IBCrashen is saying: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-...armin-gps-unit/
  10. Just checked again and other than county lines there is no data there. I have v2.0 that I got from http://www.ibycus.com/ibycususa/ That is the latest one right? Zoom in more. Like way in.
  11. Now that I'm settled in in Alaska my next topo has been released: Nevada Nevada Custom Topo Page This map (as well as Idaho and the new Arizona topo version) stops at the border of Nevada. It includes quite a few federally released trails and all the usual stuff including 40ft contours. Topo map features: * Roads - Interstates, highways, roads, limited unpaved roads (Tiger 2008) * Railroads * High resolution water data - lakes, rivers, streams, marshes, and washes * Federal Land Usage - Wilderness area, national parks, and military bases/ranges, native american reservations, some state parks * Borders - County and state boundary lines * Elevation contours - 40ft intervals (equivalent to 24k) * GNIS Points of Interest - summits, mines, falls, dams, cemeteries, towers, populated places, etc. * Trails - trail coverage inside of the national parks/forests as well as all trails from the NW Trails map. * Parks POI - trailheads, camping sites, forest service huts within the national parks/forests * 100k Grid Segments - no segment larger than 6mb means most older GPSr's can use this mapset Screenshots A few screenshots so you can see the quality: And a comparison: Any issues or questions let me know. Nevada Topo Map Download This maps completes a very large swath of the west available between MiscJunk and myself: Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and Idaho. In addition maps of Maine and New Hampshire are also available via GPSFileDepot. Any questions, suggestions, errors, etc just post them here.
  12. Make sure you are running at least v6.13+; if you're any lower than the way it fixed the maps for 6.14+ doesn't seem backwards compatible with 6.12 or lower. If the setup errored though you're going to have to be more specific. What did it say and what operating system are you using and are you an admin on the operating system (since it has to write to the registry).
  13. There is now a v1.25 because of contours errors (friggin metric/us thing). Make sure you get the newest version for all the above improvements plus correct contours.
  14. Getting the maps to show up once installed is very simple; just go to map info then tell it to hide city navigator. The maps Rich above mentioned are transparent and just overlay on top of city navigator so no hiding or anything needed. With that said I don't think there is a free "true topo" map completed yet. Some of New England is done and a lot of the western U.S. (as long as you're not on the coast) ;-) In addition you could always just make your own, directions in the link in my signature.
  15. As a note; most custom maps have been updated to fix this problem so just redownload any that you had and they should all work
  16. Yes, but in time. Nevada is being compiled right now (woohoo for finally getting all the water data) and Oregon is in progress. It only makes sense to do Washington after that. That link everyone sent you to is a good Washington map but its not free. I downloaded it and will be using it. Worse comes to worse I'll just use my brain and name the forests by hand, can't take that long Depending on how long it takes to update Idaho I may make a transparent overlay like I did in Wyoming so those that don't need the detail don't have it and you can turn it on and off
  17. I don't think any topo maps exist for that state yet but if you check out my signature I have a super detailed tutorial on how to make free topo maps. In addition; someone is working there way down from Maine down the eastern seaboard so...
  18. I've released a large update to the Arizona Topo; version 1.2 This update has the following noticeable changes: Version 1.2 (30 Dec 08) * Updated to 2008 National Tiger Road Data * Fixed issues with roads in Pima County * Updated to 2008 National Tiger Rail Data * Updated major power lines (2008 Tiger) * Updated airport runways (2008 Tiger) * Updated many trails including adding National Forest Service Trails (increased from <50 to >400) * Removed duplicate trails * Made map end at the state border (easier to not have issues with neighboring maps) * Updated GNIS (points of interest) points Most people will notice the road improvements (both accuracy and updates) and the additional trails. Opinions comments, etc, let me know here or in the forums at GPSFileDepot Updates for the other maps are pending.
  19. Garmin Nuvi 250W Garmin Nuvi 255W Garmin 60CSX Love them all; the 255 has some nice new attributes over the 250 and some that I miss.
  20. I think the issue I'll have is that although it is good land ownership it doesn't have names of forests, parks, etc...
  21. ARizona will be done this afternoon with its updates; nevada is after that (new); then either Idaho or Hawaii; I will include this more detailed file in the update when I fix the roads. Expect in in two weeks I would say. And yes it is a cold winter; neg20oF today...
  22. Your best bet would be to email Dale and see what is up with the features and all that. You can add a transparent road map over those (best/easiest bet) or see if Dale has any updates. The maps aren't editable in their current form. Dale's email address is on the IbycusTopo website.
  23. For USGS tutorial (not video, sorry) you can check out my site.
  24. Yes, that is what I've always had on my 60csx. I finally got a nuvi as well rather than updating City Navigator but still use my 60csx a lot. Now, your other option is to make your own topo map for you area. there are tutorials out there (see my signature). But it takes 1-2 months per state.
