  1. Sometimes you just have to go take a look. I hid a cache at a hotel for travelers. One year the snow from the parking lot was pushed past GZ and this year the snow pile is at GZ.
  2. I do not care for a log that calls for a cache to be archived written by someone with a dozen finds.
  3. We found a bottle of beer in an cache once. Emptied it and took it back to the car.
  4. I think in my neck of the woods (MN and ND) we already need to have qualified for the challenge before it will be published, just makes sense. I don't think anyone should be able to log a cache they own or have created. If it is not an Event, it is not for you. # 4, Any challenge cache which has not had a find or a statement of achievement for 12 months is automatically archived is a bit harsh. We have a challenge that requires having logged a cache in three continents; it took us a LONG time to have traveled that much, so another cacher might wait years and years to log that challenge. Just because a cache takes a long time does not mean it should be pulled. There are a good number of challenges that require a cache to be found on every day of the year, 366 finds. St. Paul, MN has 2626 caches within 10 miles, but Warren, MN has 3. Where you live will make challenges harder or easier. Just some thoughts.
  5. Thanks folks, I have a ride and am looking forward to a long, chilly, drippy, dark hike. m&m o
  6. My 2¢. I like the current system. A question mark symbol indicates cachers will need to do something extra; be it solve a puzzle or finish a challenge. We have a lot of variety with in Traditionals, Multis, etc. so leave the Mystery caches as they are.
  7. MY wife and I say we have cached in Montana (we have one find there) and I have talked with people who say they don't count a state unless they make five finds. We don't log our own caches, but some of the cachers in the area do. I have read Event pages that explain that "FTF Rights" will be given away as a door prize, no one around here claims FTF on an Event. Do I think I am Right and they are Wrong? Sure I do, but as I read on someone's Profile they play the game and keep stats the way they do for there own enjoyment.
  8. We have a few Letterbox Hybrids that we have placed and we always write "Not a trade item" on the back of the stamps we put in the Hybrids.
  9. My wife and I are coming from Minnesota for the Block Party, but she has no desire to walk through the tunnel. I on the other hand am hoping to find a ride to the event and find the replacement Ape Cache. Please contact me if you have an extra seat you are willing to let me fill. Thanks, m&m o
  10. Head to garage sales or let folks know you are willing to take their old artificial tree off their hands.
  11. Would you please put the cache back where you found it? Do they not remember where it was or do they feel they need to "improve" the cache?
  12. I think the enjoyment and point of EarthCaches is to get us to pay attention to and learn about the geology of the world around us. I have submitted answers that did not match up with what the CO was looking for and my wrong answers lead to short e-mail discussions, more learning and a Found log left in place.
  13. 153 and counting. I would love to say we find all of the caches we look for, but come on, who wants to spend all their time with 1/1 caches? Sometimes we go after a cache that is more of a challenge and sometimes we just miss the obvious. As a CO I want to know if people are not finding one of our caches. Maybe it means we did a good job with the hide and maybe it is time to go check on the cache.
