  1. I use NiMH rechargables but carry alkaline spares. just in case. If I put rechargables in my bag as spares it seems they are always dead again before I get around to needing them.
  2. I can't respond with facts about any other models but I have 3 units. A Magellan Map 340, a Garmin etrex Legeon Cx and a Garmin Map 60 CSx. The old Magellan works as good as the etrek Legeon CX but eats batteries for breakfast, lunch and Dinner. The Etrek Legeon Cx runs forever on 2 Nimh batteries (32 hours) but looses the signal in tree cover. The 60CSx really holds the signal well even indoors and battery life isn't too bad . (about 18 hrs) more if I turn the compass off. So. Now the 60 CSx is the only one I use. I let guest use the etrek Legeon Cx and the old Magellan.
  3. One question. W'hat happened to the D's on the satellite signal bars to indicate a WAAS signal is being received? I liked it in my etrek Legeon but my 60 SCX don't do that. boo hoo
  4. I have a etrex legeon CX. Before I downloaded Garmins update manager and updated the firmware in it, it wandered all over the place moving as much a 150ft at a time in quick jerky leaps. As soon as I updated it it settled down. Both my etrex Legeon and Magellan Map 340 wander when I'm under dense tree cover just before I loose the signal completely. My New 60CSX in rock solid even inside.
  5. I just bought a 60CSX last week. It really holds a fix good. I was just outside with it a few minutes ago and my old etrex couldn't even get started. It finally got 3 birds and an EPE of 213 ft. The 60CSX was stable at 25 ft EPE. Yesterday I was at the Mall. I had my CSx in my pocket so I tried it inside the mall. What do you know, it locked on right away and gave me a 12 ft EPE. I've only had a chance to try it once on a hunt and went right too the cache under heavy Hemlock trees. I couldn't even see the sky. patter

  7. What does the column heading (D/T) above the size icons on the Seek Geocache page mean? And, what are the fractions above each size icon. i.e. (1.5/2)? Thanks in advance.
  8. Thanks Folks, Your replies give me plenty of food for thought. To tell you the truth I was kind of hoping I could find an excuse to buy a new GPS. Patter
  9. Hi patterpusher, On the 'Hide and Seek' Page Hide and Seek you can search the area you will be visiting by: ZipCode (link next to the box gives a link to ZipCode lookup By State (probably low on your list for visiting) By Lat/Long (N/S HDDD MM.MM) (WGS84 datum) By Lat/Long (format in decimal) By Area Code Is that what you were looking for? JohnTee Thanks John that's what I'm looking for. sorry about posting to the wrong forum.
  10. Hey Y'all, Is there a way to list caches on the Cache -details page from an area other than your home. I plan on traveling and would like to be able to list prospective Caches in the vicinity of any town or State Park etc. that I'm going to be at. Oops this got posted to the wrong section and I don't know how to move it.
  11. Hi Y'all, I'm new at Geocaching but have owned a Magellan 330 for a couple of years. I notice that most of you use a Garmin GPS. Other than my Magellan being a little slow to Initialize is there any advantage in changing to a Garmin GPS? Patter
