  1. In the FAQ's it says quote:Before a cache is posted, volunteers check the page for innacuracies, bad coordinates, and appropriateness before posting the cache to the site. How does one go about volunteering? I am really not the outdoors kind of girl but I do enjoy the game and sitting in front of the computer. Just wondering...
  2. No I haven't developed any superstitions... however I have developed the rutual of changing out of my high heals to put on walking shoes (by necestity) and putting on bug repelant.
  3. quote:Originally posted by welch:if that wont work then put a waypoint in your description, something like, "to find this cache you need to start here(waypoint one), and travel to this point(waypoint two) before seeking the cache." That might just work! I would need to do that several times because of the countour of the lake. (I am not sure anyone would really want to re-enter the coordinates that many times-but it is a way) 5 or 8 times should just about do it! Thank you!

  5. Yes, they wanted me to re-check my coordinates and that is when I ran into the cacher. quote:Originally posted by Rubbertoe:Well, I think if you include the information in the description, it should be enough to guide the seekers in the right direction. Unless there aren't really any identifying marks for the property boundries. I am editing the description now to do that. I am telling them what they will see on the PATH and where to get off the path at. You really can't miss it. I used family to test my directions to make absolutely sure. I guesss if it would help I can go back AGAIN and take a photo of the cache area to make absolutely sure they can find it.
  6. Ok, I was having to re-get the coordinates of a cache that was not approved. However someone that just happened to be there (and happened to be a geocacher) pointed out the tendancy of people to cut across areas to get to the cache. The problem comes in when he was showing me the lines of private property that were in the way. I am really concerned about that plus some rocks in the way if you don't follow the path. This is a REALLY nice location and I hid the cache in the only groundcover. Is is ok if I have an off-set cache (as describe in the FAQ's) only I give the off set directions to prevent someone from unkowingly getting in trouble or getting hurt if I urge them to bring there GPS to re-visit any interesting locations they may find? (If you have any other clever ideas to my problem PLEASE let me know) Preliminary details at the url below http://gurlpages.com/goldie_locks3/ahoy2.htm [This message was edited by Goldie Locks on August 05, 2002 at 11:21 AM.]
  7. quote:Originally posted by ~erik~:However, please don't hide a cache w/o a GPS - that wouldn't be fair (and possibly unsafe) for those hunting the cache. If you have to hide something that way call it a letterbox and post it on that site. ~erik~ That is why you have someone take the reading for you!!!!! ;-)
  8. Ok, I finally get it. Thanks for hanging in there with me. My cache report is on its way!

  10. Ok... Here is the URL for the location I want... maybe it will be easier this way. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?latlongtype=decimal&latitude=36.96515&longitude=-82.53218
  11. quote:Originally posted by KD9KC:Seems to me that with only 60 minutes to a degree I agree 100% but according to Map Quest (which matches up which coordinates have been correct with the caches I have found) if I have 36 degrees 59.999 I am in the wrong county... If I use 37 degrees even I am above where I want to be. ??? I feel so stupid right about now!
  12. I kind of like the idea... how about getting an e-mail no one knows about and contacting a female cacher with the coords... I think that would be better because I would be reserved about doing that for just some guy out there, but if it were more of a secret admirer thing I would be more impressed.
  13. I am a girl and I love to cache. My mom has gone with me one two hunts so I guess she counts too.
  14. Ok, I have converted it. I now have 36º 96.515 and it still is not accepting the value. Is it still wrong? I am using a map to calculate and MapQuest to double check.
  15. I *ALWAYS* go geocaching without GPS. It is extremely nice to hear that someone else is doing it that way too. So far I have had excellent luck. I have only not been able to find two. I don't even plot the coordinates. (although that is a wonderful idea) I just look at the mapquest map and go from there. Prices here for GPS units are sky high... well above the average anyway. Plus I have to drive an hour to get it (at the local super-walmart). No way, I will just wait till the price comes down... then I will tackle the hard ones.
  16. I am trying to submit a new cache... it is not accepting the way I have my coordinates written. In the first box I left the North the seconed I have 36 and in the third for that selection I have 96.499. It is telling me that this is not the correctly formatted. Help!!!!
  17. I had just heard of people collecting the cards, which was a shock I was getting ready to make my card and I was wanting to do it in sticker format... just making sure there was no purpose to the card other than to say you had been there.
  18. I have seen caches where in the logs people have left their "signature card" or "calling card". Why do they do this? I have also seen a sticker stuck on the page that they signed with their e-mail and stuff. Is this the same thing? How do you feel about this and do any of you have a "signature card"?
  19. What I take but leave in car... - Bug Repelant (the off botanicals works wonders!) What I take with me in my camera bag or purse... -About 3 small items -cache printout (or scrap paper with notes) I have run out of easy caches so here in a bit I will carry a gps in my hands. I don't even see the reasoning behind a backpack personally.
  20. It sounds like a lot of fun!!! I really, really wish I could go to the cache and retrieve the bug!!! Oh well if it is still there when I get to travel some I will try to go fetch it! (giggle)

  22. I see nothing wrong with taking a travel bug from your own cache. I just will not do it with the cache I am creating... I will give all my cacher a good chance at getting a bug. Then if no one moves it for a long period of time, then I may help it out. But that is just me.

  24. quote:Originally posted by Trudy & The Beast:At times there are circumstances... if the cache is wet, if the cache is not getting decent traffic or if the cache is not in route for the bug, I can understand some delay. I agree! What is a little while in the hands of someone if it is going to spend a lot longer in a cache...
  25. I think that if the caches where you could quickly drop off your bug are basically inactive and if the ones on your trip are very active then I think the bug should wait. Still that may weeks is a lot. 1-3 weeks I could see. If I was you I would contact the owner and follow their wishes... after all it IS there bug!
