  1. This looks fabulous. I love the earthy colors, and the flag looks good. Though I was very fond of the interstate number signs for each state.
  2. I wouldn't mind having different colors for each state. I was having trouble doing a red/white/blue without being too bright. I'm not sure what colors to use though.. I wouldn't want to pick college colors because that doesn't really represent the state, just one college. Might especially be bad if a cache was hidden near the rival school I'll have a look at the state flags, maybe we can pull colors from those as well as use them as graphics somehow. Good thinking all Edit: ugh, state flags aren't terribly lovely - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_the_U.S._states
  3. Quick and dirty: Sample 1 Sample 2 Sample 3 These will all adjust to fit into the space for descriptions on the cache page. Suggestions or other ideas? I can code just about anything, but coming up with ideas is the hard part
  4. Actually, what's wrong with this? The colors are a bit bright for me, but I like the numbered state thing.
  5. I'll see if I can put an HTML template together for you. I think this is a great idea, and sounds like a lot of fun. I would volunteer to place a cache, but I've not done that yet, and I'd be nervous about making something this serious my first one. However, if you don't get any volunteers for Arizona, I'll tentatively do so.
  6. Sorry I've been quiet for so long but things got a bit busy... I'll see if I can brainstorm anything for these new requests, but I want to remind you all that we have only a 75 pixel width to work with. If you want 6 different things in your avatar, then it's going to look very cramped and be hard to tell what's going on. Now some of these better talented folks can do big pictures that shrink down to a nice avatar, but keeping it simple is also nice. And even though there's no limit on image height (as far as I know), it can really stretch out posts if you have a super-tall avatar. For example.. you post "Yeah! I agree!" as a reply. Normally this wouldn't take too much screen space. However, if your avatar is 800 pixels high then your post will be too, and will take up most of the screen. I certainly don't want to damp anyone's enthusiasm, but it's just something to keep in mind, I guess. Remember, we're all volunteering so don't make it too hard on us! Maybe some of these could even be a series of avatars which depict different hobbies, and you could then change them out when you wished to. I dunno. I know I don't speak for all the artistic-types here, but I'm willing to put myself out to be the bad guy if needed.
  7. Don Coyote/ Moo Cow Sorry this took so long. I'm still not terribly happy with the mouth/nose area, so if anyone has suggestions, please share.
  8. oof.. I can try. I'm not really used to doing stuff like this. Yours was pretty easy cuz I just copied over your petroglyph charm. Do you want the cow to have a Gx body like the coyote, or solid? And thanks everyone *tries to fit her head through the door*
  9. How about this? I could add a couple more colors overall if you want more detail in the fur, but I was keeping it a bit abstract to look like a petroglyph still. I have no idea where to put arms on.... they kept looking like they were coming out of his back. I can keep trying if you want, or if you have a specific idea, let me know, and I'll see what I can do. Personally, I'd rather not add a gps unless you really want it. I don't think it really needs that, do you? And thanks Whoops! Forgot to actually add the image..
  10. There's a bit of a line ahead of you Plus, and I'm only speaking for myself here, it takes quite awhile to do some of these, and work and other things can often get in the way. (darn work! sucks up all my fun time)
  11. Don Coyote Did you mean something like this? or did you want an image based on that charm? Edit: Like this?
  12. lonesumdove & Mr. MagOO A couple different options.. please let me know if you'd like anything different.
  13. I've not forgotten you Dusty, though I'm having some problems located a good base. I know I've seen one, I just have to find it again. Otherwise I have to build my own, which will take longer. So I may work on some of these others folks' avatars in the meantime. --------- That new KandRS logo looks really nice, fox-and-the-hound.
  14. mmmkay, I haven't tried to do a buzz-cut before, so hopefully this is ok Also, I saved it as a jpg this time, so maybe uploading it to the forum won't chew it up too badly.
  15. For Team Jsam Please let me know if there's something that needs changing... people bases are by Angy-chan
  16. I'll work on this if you like, but I gotta tell you it's going to be hard to squeeze 4 people into a 75 pixel wide space. Especially if you actually want them doing something. Can you provide a little more detail? "We all have brown hair" doesn't help a whole lot.. is it long or short on each person? What kind of clothing do you want on them? Approximately how old are your daughters? That kind of thing is really helpful, otherwise you'll end up with very generic-looking people in t-shirts and jeans. I think I can do this...it's a really cute idea. ------ Basically, I mostly do pixel art. So if you guys don't want that kind of avatar, then please let me know.
  17. Ok, this is undoubtedly waaaay to late, but I work slow. For Jimmie, as a forum av. base is by Xandorra
  18. There are several paint programs out there that don't cost as much as Photoshop. The GIMP is absolutely free, and open source. I haven't used it myself, but I understand that it's fairly powerful. I use JASC's PaintShopPro. Though it looks like Corel bought them out. It was about $80, came with an animation program, and can do most of the stuff that Photoshop can. Not all of the really fancy photomanipulation stuff, but I've been using it for a long time and haven't missed any particular feature for making avatars, sigs, etc. In my opinion, you don't need Photoshop unless you're a graphic professional. Too bad I'm so slow.. I was working on a cache-slaying knight too.
  19. I was sooooo frustrated when I first turned on my Legend. I only wanted to set the date & time, and fiddle around with it a bit. It was after dark and I was at home, where I figured I wouldn't get a satellite link. It would NOT show the correct time, no matter what I did, it insisted that I was in Taipei and the date was 5 months earlier. I went over the steps listed in the manual several times, and it wouldn't work. I was all set to call Garmin in the morning to get help, when I happened to look through the quick-start guide. I just had to let it acquire satellites before I could change the date and time. It had to know where it was before it could calculate them correctly. durrrr So basically, yes, it can be very frustrating working with a new piece of equipment. Especially if everyone says how easy it is to use, and you can't seem to figure it out > But keep playing with it, as others have already said, and you'll figure it out sooner than you think. Good luck!
  20. Ok, I'll have to keep that in mind for the future. Thanks folks!
  21. Hi all, I was wondering if we're supposed to log every visit to a cache area, or just the final one. For example, I went to check out a cache on my lunch break that was nearby. However there were too many people in the area to really look around and find it, so I decided to come back when it wasn't so busy. Should I have logged that first visit, and then logged my 2nd when I returned a few days later? Or log the first, and edit it for the 2nd visit? I'm not really sure what to do in that case. If it was a week or more in between visits, I would probably log both separately. Thanks for the help. My husband and I just started geocaching. We're 0/3 so far, but still having fun.
