  1. Of course all of this from people who's business model is based on the fact that people give them information that they then serve up to other people. Amazing.
  2. Yea I thought the same thing at one point too. That must be a new way of seeing things around here. Not that long ago comments that did not violate any of the guidelines were deleted. That is when I thought we were all in trouble.
  3. I was wondering who would be the first one in. Well done Mopar.
  4. Hmmm ... I have never seen that. I wonder what that is all about. Ok well there you go -- it's always something.
  5. Read the log, entertaing, highly suspect, however entertaining. I am not going to even comment on the "loser" part of the original post. I think you said enough about yourself right there. But wait it was very funny to see the cache was called "Huff and Puff".
  6. So are you only picking up the latest logs with pictures?
  7. Don't try to make sense out of the "bill" you will only end up hurting yourself.
  8. So now I think the assembly in SC will need to do an economic impact statement for this "bill". How much will it cost the state when all of these out of work geocachers file for unemployment benefits?
  9. I think your post could be taken out of context and be used to show that our group promotes breaking the law but what do I know. In watching the video of the "debate" (yes I am being polite) and reading your post what struck me was the lack of common sense on the part of lawmakers. There was a very minor discussion asking about trespassing laws. Some point was made that current trespassing laws would not work in this case becase how they are written and there being a need for a sign, blah, blah, blah. Then maybe it is the trespassing law that needs to be fixed. It would seem that even if this "bill" were to pass one could still go on a cemetary and do all manner of things because the current law would not cover it. I find all of that a little hard to believe but if that was her point then actually do something that counted. Private property seems like it would be private property and coming on to that property without permission is wrong, sign or no sign. As for urinating in public I would expect there is a law against that. If not -- seems like a good idea to actually get one. But the obvious is sometimes lost on some people. I don't think anyone here would have a problem if trespass or public urination laws were tightened up. Then the law could be used for what it is supposed to do. I don't think anyone here would have a problem with charging people for those crimes if they were being broken, regardless if that person were caching or not. The "representative" is a Republican someone may want to go to party leadership and point out that she would be adding more regulation. I know the Republican party that I belong to is not in favor of that sort of thing. So if in fact her "aides" are watching trying to find something to use here go take that. You are an embarrassment to the party now go do something useful. Also didn't I see she says she is a member of Women in the Outdoors or something like that? What is that and do we have any geocachers in the organization maybe that is another way to head her off. Hopefully none of this can be taken out of context and offend some elected "leader's" common sense.
  10. I am with you on this. I had no idea there was all of this trading going on via mail. Man a whole secret underground that I was not aware of. Dare I say maybe these folks should have there own forum. I think it is helpful to let others know that people here are ripping them off but you play the game you take your chances. I think the issue is really not part of what should be going on here. One person sends something the other person does not get it the first person comes here and talks about and then it can only end up being a conversation of "Yes I did", "No you didn't". I don't know if that really ends up being helpful to anyone.
  11. Someone once said you don't ever want to see laws or hot dogs being made. Or something like that. This is pretty standard on how things go in most places. None of this prelim stuff really matters much especially on minor bills like this. When it comes time for the vote many times they don't know what they are voting for or against. They look over at party leadership or other reps from their district or state and see if they get an idea from them on which way to vote. That is part of the job of the whip. They make sure that people hitting the floor that have not been there for the debate but are showing up for a vote know what is being voted on and how they should be voting. You should watch C-SPAN sometime if this worried you that will cause to be afraid to close your eyes. I always love the person who has been giving a speech for awhile and they then go to a wide shot and there is nobody there.
  12. Oh come on. Go back and look at your original post in the other thread. It is by far and away mostly about your taking this trip to China to play the sax on the Great Wall. You then happen to also mention something about geocaching. You even say, "Obviously, geocaching is not our primary mission" but you expect to hunt some out. Through out the post there are mentions of the cost and you add how this will have to curtail your plans to go to other places because you need to save up to go, then you end with a statement asking for money. If that was a thread about you caching in China maybe you should have just said you may be having the chance to go to China and as an aside mention this project at the Great Wall. As it was geocaching was mentioned as an aside. As for getting the information about what to expect and some tips when you get there maybe you should have said that in the OP if that is what you were looking to gain. As far as I can tell you don’t even ask for anybody to pass on any of that type of information. So don’t blame anybody else because it does not show up until page two of the thread. Let’s be real honest here. I don’t care that you made to original post. I don’t care if the post had been completely about this project at the Great Wall. I don’t care that you used the forums to ask for funds to do the trip. I don’t care if you go or not. I do care that with the guidelines this post did not belong in that forum. But you know I don’t even care about that because I think the guidelines are just silly. I do care because the guidelines don’t seem to get applied equally and they seem to bend for some and not others. Do you for one minute think if that post had been from most other people it would have been left to stand like that? It would at the very least been moved to the off-topic forum. You are a mod and you should have known better. I don’t care how you have to hear about things behind the scenes. All I know is what I see publicly. If you are going to hold that type of position you have to hold yourself to a higher standard. Maybe you should get yourself a non-mod account to post these types of things under. But again let me emphasize my point is not about your post, my point was about pointing out how things don’t get applied the same way to everyone.
  13. I get all of that I really do. But this person will find and it would seem make up anything she needs to make her case. Maybe some of the nonsense she has been going on about should be exposed for what it is. Attack her credibility and she suffers not only now but in the future. I don't think there would be nearly the amount of angst shown if she had put this bill out there and presented an honest argument about. Sure people would still not have agreed but the statements made by many here would not have been as pumped up. Of course, then it would have really been seen as a useless piece of legislation and likely not make it out of committee.
  14. I don't understand how a group of people and a company can be so worried about about something that is said that may be taken out of context. Anything can be taken out of context and there is nothing to be done about it. Have we really reached the point where not only do have to worry about offending someone for the words we actually say but also have to worry about phrasing things in such a way that they can't be taken out of context and used against us? If that is the case it is a sorry state of affairs. I was told that if this was taken out of context it could be seen as a threat. Well that does not make it a threat. If this person that is supposed to be representing her citizens sees it as a threat let her report it as such. I will take my chances in court. And wow how much power can a person have if they are able to live hundreds of miles away, type a few words on the internet and actually be able to move an elected assembly from another state to vote a certain way. If the people in SC really believe that they should be embarrassed for putting such people in office.
  15. Wait a minute, I was reading your OP and thinking OK I agree with some of it and not with the rest. The blue boy has gotten beaten up a little today and he wants to make his point. OK fair enough, I can go along with that. But then I read this. I think your original post in this thread and the other thread and moderating are really all kind of related. I think there tends to be some overlap. Maybe there should be and maybe not but I just feel like in the end you really can't neatly divide them out.
  16. I suspect they may have paid for it to be used. Maybe gc.com did not charge them and is allowing them to use it. Maybe it was part of the deal in buying ad space here and a bunch of TBs. I don't know. It does make you wonder, but it is their property to do as they wish. But because they are private we will likely never know what kind of deal was made. I am guessing if anyone comes up with some money they could cut some kind of deal with gc.com.
  17. There were good reasons for that. But he did raise a ton of cash. Mostly small donations from people that never donated before.
  18. So if we are all so worried that what we say will be taken out of context and used against us then maybe we should just close down the forums. There is nothing you can do or say to stop people from lying and misrepresenting what you say. If they want to do a hatchet job -- they will.
  19. While this idea might seem funny, it needs to be stressed that this is not an concept which will be pursued. Please keep in mind that many people are reading this forum, including folks on both sides of this legislative issue. At the second subcommittee meeting Geocachers in South Carolina were accused of placing retaliatory caches around the Capitol building in response to the events of the first subcommittee meeting. This accusation was made with no supporting evidence at all, and it became yet another charge that we had to defend ourselves against. It is contrary to the spirit of Geocaching (and the guidelines) to place a cache whose purpose it is to take a side of a political issue, and incorporating into a geocache the physical address of an individual who holds an opinion contrary to our own could easily be construed as using a Geocache to make a political statement. This is a bad idea, and mentioning it in these public forums will likely give us one more thing which we have to defend ourselves against. Also, if other legislators think that we are of a mindset to retaliate against other lawmakers, they may band together since we seem to be treating them without respect. I would hate to see some comments made in jest come back to haunt us. Retaliatory caches? If the people that represent the citizens of SC really see this as a problem I think they need to get some new representatives. Coming to places around the Capitol building is seen as a problem? I guess that would only be true if you don't want the citizens to see how you conduct the public's business. I don't see how a cache like this would have the purpose of taking a side on a political issue. It is only taking a person to where a person that tried to ban geocaching lives. Is a virtual cache that is at a home of a former president taking sides? It would not incorporate the physical address, which has been published in the newspaper, it is based on latitude and longitude. And maybe if this person knew their house was a virtual cache and that people were coming to it she may see first hand that geocaching causes no harm. I'm sorry but I am really missing your point about geocachers banding together to retaliate against lawmakers. I think that is the point to make. Those geocachers in SC should be banding together and watch who votes for this and retaliate by working against them at election time. The citizens have the right and the duty to redress their elected officials. That is not disrespect -- that is how are system works. Again if they have a problem with that all the more reason to get them out of office. If you take a political stand you have to know there will be people that disagree. And that is the price you pay for being a leader and taking that stand. Can't stand the heat get out the kitchen. But even if this would be a cache that takes a side on a political issue so what? It is a issue that is directly aimed at what we do and trying to limit that activity. It is not taking sides with one political party or another. If we don't do what we can to try to effect the outcome of this then we might as well close up shop now. We will be seen as having no voice and a group that can just be run over at will. When farmers take their tractors and circle the capitol building is that retaliatory? Maybe maybe not, I think it is a like minded group expressing their point of view. But it does send a clear message to those representatives what they will face when they go back to their home districts.
  20. OK I was looking for a WOW factor, but I kept saying something else.
