  1. That you know of -- dead men tell no tales. The next log after that would be something like, "DNF! I think this has been muggled. Found pieces of what looked like a cache tossed around the area but no cache."
  2. You may want to review the 224 posts prior to yours.
  3. No that is not the problem. Microsoft products are more than able to handle this load. It is not a question of the product not being stable, it is an issue of scalability. It becomes tiresome to always hear people blame Microsoft and how great Linux is. Microsoft SQL and IIS are more than up to the task here. Both products run in environments much larger than here. The issue is one of programming. Better code needs to be written as well as more tweaking to the database setup. Several times in the past TPTB have admitted to poor programming practices. Also it seems there has also been poor planning in predicting and adjusting for growth. There are tools that can stress load the servers and see what breaks where and when. Also for those that have been talking about more bandwidth -- again, that is not the issue. The fact that one gets error messages from the server shows you are getting through. As for throwing more machines to fix the problem, I don't know. I don't know exactly how the system is configured so it is hard to say. But from what I have been able to put together that does not seem to be an issue either. It sounds like there is enough horsepower. I continue to think that better code needs to be put in place to make better use of the hardware there.
  4. I have to guess you don't have a very long winter concert tour.
  5. See if what is happening to you sounds like what was discussed in this thread. Jeremy had termed it lazy coder syndrome because all of the actions were not wrapped up in one single transaction.
  6. 1962?!? Oh man this is so going to screw up all the PQs I have set up using a date range for date placed.
  7. Grave sites are a touchy subject here. I have used this web site plenty of times to find people, there are probably plenty of others. Is your person listed there? People are going to be respectful or not based on something other than caching and people are going to be able to find things based on caching or not. But you have to look at yourself in the mirror.
  8. NOW and the politically correct police have your number. They'll be paying you a visit soon. LOL! Not the first time.
  9. Sorry I saw default PMS and thought my ex-wife was on this site.
  10. Really...??? An unsecured WiFi network with a broadcasting SSID is pretty much fair game. Especially if I expect free WiFi (Hotel, Coffeeshop, etc) in the area. If I see a bunch of linksys and unknowns I really don't care who's it is. The strongest unsecured signal with net access is my choice. If you don't want your WiFi used without permission use WEP, don't broadcast your SSID, protect your network ... I see WiFi access like trespassing on property. If you don't want me on your property build a fence, or post some sign, or make it obvious some other way that this is private property. I think you are on the money. Accessing something that is floating around in the air is very different than tresspassing on to ones property, coming on to their porch and plugging in. If you don't want me to use your WiFi connection don't put it in my vehicle. I see it more as a person's expectation to privacy. If you are doing something on your front lawn people are likely to see it. Go and do it in the privacy of your bedroom. And even then if you are going to leave the light on people walking by on the sidewalk are going to see, so close the shade. Some people are actually OK with putting their WiFi signal out there for people to use, and I guess some are not. The only way I can tell the difference is if they put some kind of security on it. If one hacks around the security fine different story. But if it is not secured it looks like a public WiFi hotspot to me.
  11. Oh fine I will help out and make it one closer. P. S. That was number 399,985
  12. Because if he started a new thread he would have: A) been markwelled back to this one people telling him to use the search function C) his new thread locked because this topic was already being discussed in another thread. D) all of the above
  13. Man I am really hating this thread -- I am now having to agree with El Diablo, all is lost. Yes hello, of course it is about the mighty dollar. And what is the problem with that? The possibility of profit is the factor that drives people to take a chance and try something. It is a great system. I think to some degree people still have the feeling that this is some guy running this site on a couple of spare computers out of his basement. Yes things were a little different then. But it has grown beyond that, it is a business and without the ability to make money there would have been no reason to take the chances needed to make it grow. Hey I feel the same way about major league sports. When I was growing up I had the feeling it was about people that really enjoyed the game. It is not that way any more, millions of dollars are thrown around like it is just beer money. And it is allowed to continue because the fans don't seem to mind being played the fool and continue to support it. Well as long as they do it will not stop. Good for all of them, I don't watch pro sports at all any more. If anybody does not like the fact that people are making money on this activity, then don't involve yourself in it. Or go start something that is not based on a profit model. Or go start something where you make all the money. Hey if it works, good for you. But if you are in business to make money and someone who you allow to have more information than just the average customer is using it to hit your bottom line then it would be silly to allow them to continue doing that. I don't really know if that is the case here, but for the moment lets say it is. I don't see a problem with that. It would also seem that gc.com gave the person a way out so that there would be no need for the dirty laundry to be aired. The person choose a different route, as I said before, it was their choice. Again it would seem they wanted to kick it up a notch, again I have no problem with that. But don't expect that gc.com is just going to roll over and wait to be kicked in the backside without showing their teeth a little. Do you have any idea how silly this all sounds if I am taking gc.com side on this?
  14. I am sorry for taking this off topic but I could not let this statement go by. All of those people were captured on the battfield fighting against American soldiers. And yes I am OK with that. Now please go ahead back on topic.
  15. It really sucks that so many of you have forced me to agree with Jeremy on the resigning or firing discussion. Hey if they want to get rid of anybody for any reason I don't see a problem at all with gc offering to allow the person to resign and that they would leave it that. GC has plenty of faults but I think if a person were to choose the resign option that gc would only ever say that the person resigned -- end of story. Also the person has the choice to accept or not accept the offer and whatever they choose is up to them and it is their business. They need to decide based on whatever -- that is all good. I would also say that unless the person "goes public" with what happened that gc would never really discuss it. But once a person opens that door then gc is certainly free to open their mouth and comment on it as they wish. I would guess that UtahAdmin understands how that game is played out and made a decision to go down that road. His decision and that is all OK as well. Perhaps UtahAdmin wanted to bring this all to a head. I don't know just a guess. Again his choice. As far as conflict of interest, yes or no, what was the real reason, who was right, who was wrong. I don't know I suspect there is more to the story then what I have seen here, there usually is. Just please stop saying things that are going to make me agree with Jeremy, I am trying to hold up what few standards I have left.
  16. Don't worry about seeming like an idiot you would not be the first, seasoned veteran or not. Yeah, yeah I include myself in that.
  17. It is that Jeremy at it again. Does everyone not see what he is doing? If someone stays a member for 365 years he is going to end up collecting an extra years membership from us. And he is doing so very slowly so that over time he thinks we are not going to notice. The lengths this guy will go to never ends.
  18. Hey I did not say anything. But ... I carry when I feel the need. Sometimes that is when caching. Don't carry all the time, living in the Bloodymore, Murderland (Baltimore, Maryland) area there are becoming fewer and fewer places I would not go without taking something. But this state issues very few permits to carry, so one takes their chances. Of course, the Baltimore City Chief of Police has his own body guards, not sure what that is supposed to tell me about my chances on the streets. So yeah I will take my chances and carry without a permit. But never really felt the need to carry on rural caches but urban ones can be a different story.
  19. Physical log belongs to the cache owner. Words inside log belong to the person that wrote them. I don't think it is any different than if I pass you a note, or you buy a book written by someone else.
  20. I can't express how much I disagree with that statement. Ummm ... yeah just check my copy of the Constitution and I was not able to find anything about having to travel around with my lawyer in order to keep my rights. This kind of thinking I just find to be very worrisome. If you are so willing to give up your rights fine. But don't think for a minute you can give up mine.
  21. Mopar, I am going to guess that you and I agree a lot more about what the Constitution means and what it was intended to mean than we ever do here. But I would say that the Federalist Papers are the point of view of only one group that was involved in writing the Constitution. There were two or more sides to what should have been in there and what was meant by what was in there and why. Their differences were in many cases huge. It took years for Jefferson and Adams to come to terms with it. And don't even make me bring up Hamilton. They were far from a single minded or like thinking group when it came to the Constitution. And the document reflects that. And I think that is a good thing. I think it is a great piece of work and it is vile how it is being distorted today.
  22. Oh great now I need to figure out how to get all these greasy smudges off the screen from pressing my nose up against it to read this.
  23. I understand if someone wants to keep their real identity secret. If I want to get someone p.o. at me I think I will save it for something more worth it.
  24. Would it actually be OK to take a real guess at this? If the actual identity of the perosn is guessed would they get a mad about it? I have an idea but I don't want to actually p.o. the person if I am right.
  25. Saw that one of the changes noted was, "Updated max number of pocket queries to 40." That is a good thing. Thank You. But when I went to the PQ page it still said the max was 20. That probably needs updating.
