  1. That's why a lot of them are retired. It can be a pretty time-intensive course. But it depends on where you live. People 20 minutes to the west of me get away with 40 hours of classes. We had 160! The place where I went gets a fair amount of younger people who are trying to get jobs at nurseries or landscaping companies.
  2. Hang in there, fellow Mainieac! If you don't have an external cable and premium membership ($3.00 a month) that automatically puts the waypoint into the gps-r for you, then you'll have to punch in all those latitude and longitude numbers along with the waypoint, or GC number that you are already doing.
  3. Yikes, make sure your prof knows the answers came from online. The results are treated differently than a tarditional in-person or phone survey.
  4. Thank you. My point exactly.
  5. Hey, sometimes a cut gets infected, sometimes it doesn't. It's YOUR karma, man.
  6. Because you have never been exposed to this, it can't possibly be true? And you know darn well that if someone is poking in a thumbtack, someone else is carving with a knife or driving a spike. How bout we just not introduce wounds into trees, and leave it at that.
  7. Only to let you know that to become a Master Gardener here you have to be interviewed, show you already have experience as a steward of the environment, take 160 hours of classes/hands on, and be available for projects in order to keep your certification. Our classes were in the field, and we did a lot of tree work. In fact I pruned apple trees in one park not knowing there is a microcache there and I would be searching for it one day! I respect your logging industry experience and you need to respect my 47 years of living in the woods. I actually don't have a book that tells me not to poke trees. But the arborists I deal with all seem quite unanimous about that. I happen to believe that baiting people to attack in forums is just as bad as attacking, so I will not encourage you to do it.
  8. Same goes for fishing on a RR trestle
  9. I'm an old cynical media hag. I'd be more inclined to wait a while and see how commercialized it is, how controll-y the network is about it, and whether it's well planned. Do they have any experienced cachers on-staff or are they trying to re-invent the wheel? Might not want to be associated with it if it's going to be a boondoggle or a giant product placement scheme. I wonder if some longtime cachers could contact them and see what kind of welcome you get.
  10. Logscaler, why be hating? We don't need to damage anything on purpose, manmade or natural. You ask for creds and then attack them? Should I belittle your education & training as well?
  11. No. My certification as a Master Gardener. (Androscoggin County Maine, 2004) Some. Kinda arrogant to appoint oneself to finish the job, don't you think?
  12. Don't put a thumbtack in a tree. Any wound, however small, invites insects & disease and is destructive to nature. ETA some trees look dead but they might not be. It's not up to us to decide.
  13. Your loss. I sell and buy on eBay all the time. But we all have to stick to our principles. For instance, I would never shop at Wal-Mart on moral grounds.
  14. Sorry for the delay PAracers.... here is one I made.

    Cito

It's fun to see a whole boatload of trash bags at the end of the day instead of the one measly one I always bring out when I am alone.
  16. Dave, I did not get their permission so I will just show you the back of their coin. You could make it even fancier by cutting the clipart in a circle. I also found websites with the blank coins, just as an example to show you how inexpensive they are. The coin part is already done for you so you can focus on your artwork. http://www.awsc-online.com/content_d.htm#Discs
  17. There's a family in our area that uses a wooden blank, and they just laminate clipart of their avatar onto it. It's highly collectible around here.

    Muggle?

I tell people that a Muggle is a human without special powers.
  19. Did you use the following email address, and has it been more than a few days since you emailed them?>>> contact-Groundspeak@sunriseid.com You would really only need to resort for a chargeback for shady unknown companies, not ones with a good track record like these guys.
  20. This is a personal attack and also a distortion of what was said. Nobody thinks it's "OK"... just that you need to expect it because of how we have conditioned the animals. End of offtopic tirade.
  21. Being careful won't stop a fed bear from trying to eat you.
  22. How about some Easter or Spring-themed cards from an antique store?
  23. It might be a reasonable query but the answer should still be "no". I would be very frustrated to have to weed through caches that are off-limits. Maybe someday the site owner could offer a private listing utility, for a fee.
  24. There's a micro in my town at a bus stop. It's in front of a popular convenience store where people like to buy coffee and lottery tickets. They sit in their cars along the street for up to 15 minutes to do their scratch tickets while drinking coffee. The sidewalk has benches where people from the nearbly traffic court and surrounding office buildings come out to smoke cigarettes. If you try to get it on a weekday, the cache owner can see you from the window of his office. Weekends there would be almost as many muggles because it's a popular spot for people with no place to go during the day. It's one of the few areas where folks seem to behave themselves so the cops won't shoo you away. I'm still new, and I was on foot so I didn't have a lot of gear with me, so I used a 5X7 looseleaf notebook that was still in my pack from my Eastern Star meeting the night before. That with the GPS-r and my phone made me feel like an official Sidewalk Inspector - whether I fooled anyone I do not know! I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people in the cars might be scoping the cache.
  25. John could have been less snide, but he is right, the cache page has vital information. When your GPSr starts jumping around like that, it's good news! It means you're within 20 or 30 steps!
