    Swag

Checking up on people is never accurate because you can't tell what's really going on. I'm readying some caches for placement and all will have good swag. I'll also revisit and refresh a couple of times a year when lame stuff begins to take over. When broken or scuffed McToys move, how do you know that's not just people like me, cleaning out and replacing with newer stuff?
  2. I like Mobipocket for e-book format as an alternative to cachemate. The only thing it lacks is a place to mark that you found the cache.

I think the people who leave AOL discs, religious pamphlets and broken McToys really think that's good swag. So you would have to make your list very specific or people won't get it, and then you risk being such a control freak that it's not even any fun.
  4. No, but that is a really cool sign. In our town we have the Masonic Block, but the Masons moved to a newer building in 1975. There's also a Lithuanian Hall that was vacant for a generation and is now a mosque. And the Quakers meet in a former synagog that still has the Star of David on the front. The bad luck for you is that this sign is moveable as opposed to carved, like ours - so they were able to take it with them. Good for them, but a pain in the tuckus for you, I'm sure!
  5. I think we agree, it's the placement, as opposed to the size, that we are not happy about. I am going to have to go far afield to find a place to put a nice big cache because my area is pretty well saturated. So all I have placed are 2 micros. One is for that infernal 101 Dalmatians series. I was disappointed at the quality of some of the placements so I went and adopted one and gave it a good home. The other one is my very first placement. The 2 seasoned, "usual" cache placers in town were both watching that park, unbeknownst to me, and I got permission and got in before them. One even admitted he was just planning to stick it in the fence anyway. I am very proud of the logs I am getting on this cache. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...97-ceaeede105e4
  6. Like the man said, it's subjective. For certain age groups, bush Tupperware is where it's at.
  7. Wanna start a REAL controversy around here? Ask some selected people how they felt about that series when it was done in Nashville back in '03. NO THANK YOU
  8. I guess it's all relative. To wit: My son (V-Real) only does virtuals. One of his autism things is that he can't visualise a container by description so he doesn't like searching, and he gets really uncomfortable waiting. It's boring watching someone else search. We are fortunate that the grandfathered virtuals in Maine are good. We visited a John Ford statue in Portland that we never knew was there. Now we run around making our own quality virtuals and listing them privately for our friends. Eventually we'll get the best ones up on Waymarking.com. Meanwhile, there is some debate going on locally about a 101 Dalmations-themed micro series. Some of them appear to have been placed by using the open car window method, and some others are taking up space where a bigger cache could have gone (mine, for instance). But the originators are happy with them.
  9. That is my point. You also seem to believe that because it's a guideline, then they HAVE to let you do whatever you want. You seem to be obsessing on that. It's still THEIR guideline. They get to decide.
  10. Email. I am only downloading from the preview because I can't get the email version to work lately. It was fine for the GPSr until I started using the Palm. Then a couple of times I successfully toggled back & forth between GSAK/cachemate and EasyGPS. Then suddenly things went south. I can be happy with the e-book which works fine, but for the GPS, if I go on vacation I might want to do a bigger query and not take the time to put it in page by page. I have bunged it up somewhere but not sure where.
  11. Agreed. These shows are filmed 3 months ahead of air time, minimum. ETA I just looked at the site. Waifs, models and pumpkin heads. Ho hum. REAL PEOPLE, please!!!
  12. It is possible that because of all the time and energy you have spent on this, that you don't have an accurate perspective on how the reviewers do their job. Otherwise we'd all be out there placing 17-stage multi's. Better luck next time.
  13. Go for it! But I bring the hints just in case.
  14. Thanks I have done that on singles. Most of my queries are for 100, so I'm currently doing 20 at a time. A little time consuming, but not horribly.
  15. I use the e-book format on my Palm. I really like it.
  16. Oh, it's definitely happening prior to downloading. I wasn't aware you had to filter again to use GSAK & cachemate. I'll have to learn how to do that. Although I may not bother, because it seems like the only thing I miss in the e-book is the log function, which is the ability to mark caches as found. On the GPS side, I still need to figure out why when I ask for .gpx, I am getting .loc.
  17. I can try all of that, thanks. Meanwhile, would plucker show maps? I tried AvantGo but it was causing fatal exceptions on the PDA so I deleted it. I never was able to load a map to see if it would zoom. If I want to see streets, do I need to instead get a better GPSr?
  18. Can they move it BACK 2 weeks? That's when I was in Minnesota.
  19. I'm not understanding what you mean by that. Can you elaborate? It's still doing it. I'm able to work around it by using Mobipocket instead of cachemate, but it would be nice to know what I'm doing wrong. How come the ebook file is correct, but the GSAK file has all these results that I tried to exclude, plus no descriptions? I am getting a message telling me that it's downloading as .loc which will not have the correct info. Fair enough - but I am asking for it in .gpx. And for some reason it won't open in EasyGPS at all. I am having to go to the preview and import into the GPS-r 20 files at a time. I know this is going to turn out to be something silly that I am not seeing.
  20. I am using cachemate, and I do remember the data card being popped out at one point last week when I was working with it. I think I did delete all the files prior to trying it again tonight, but I'll do it one more time and see if it makes a difference.
  21. I discovered this, unfortunately, while in the field today. The pocket query is giving me caches that I have already found, even though I have checked the box to not have it do that. And on many caches, the information is left out. It'll say 1/1 for difficulty when that's not true, and there's no description, past logs or other info. But some other caches have all the information. Is it because I didn't ask it for e-book?
