  1. I just did my first trackable and it was a horror to get the logging done. I'm a pretty savvy computer user. I had trouble logging it when I grabbed the TB and now have had trouble logging it where I dropped it. I want to comment how difficult it is to log these activities. I would say the site needs to be looked at to streamline the process. I actually cannot find where I can log a drop off. When I looked at the log, it says I grabbed it instead of dropped it. But there was not a dropped off option in the pull down menu. I could use any help I can get with learning this process.
  2. I have a Garmin 265w GPS and I use it to get to ground zero. Actually, I have pretty much moved up to my iPad 2. There is an app you can by for $10 written by Groundspeak that is awesome. The software pretty much automates everything. You have everything you need at your fingertips. It gives you a list of caches in the area, navigate to the cache, choices of map types (street, topo, and sattilite), attributes, hints, notes, past logs. I'll tell you, this setup is the cats meow. I use a 3G compatible ipad2. But the app will run on the iPhone. You need the Internet for it to be the most help. The screen actually shows your progress as you go. It also has a distance to GZ numbers that gets you in the zone. Then you have to look around like folks have said. Try it, you'll like it.
  3. I really appreciate the responses. Albeit, I was hoping for more precise approaches. Ie. guaranteed success. Actually, it has been getting easier because each success brings to light another strategy that might produce a find next time. What's nice here is you guys are giving strategies to use that are gems. Thanks, one and all for the info.
  4. I have a GPS and love it. I also have an iPad 2 and love it. Now the GPS work great, but I bought the geocache app for $10 bucks for the iPad. Makes the experience quite a bit better. Try it, you'll like it.
  5. I've read the whole thread on logbooks and agree that there is a lot of ways to look at them. Having been caching now for a couple of weeks, it was a real cool experience to find the log books in the caches. The feeling of accomplishment was intense as someone said. I wanted to leave something significant of myself there in the cache. I was excited to see entries from way back and I felt priviledged to be able to add something to it for others to see. The online Logs are ok too, but to be at the cache site, having just found it, and holding this treasure that many (like me) have worked so hard to find, speaks volumes to the function of the logging activity adding good feelings to the experience. I'd say that if folks are geocaching and not physically logging, their first feelings of their experience have wained as many of our first feelings have a want to do.

  7. Actually, todays episode was our third time out. First time, we found the cache. Second time, it was a DNF. Third time out we found two more. So, it has had it's ups and downs. I guess we'll get better at finding them.
  8. Went out on a find today. Spent a considerable amount of time looking for the cache. Turned out, we never did find the thing. When I logged in to log out the find, I noticed that the last three finders did not find the cache also. Question: I used my ipad with a downloaded app, geocache. This is a pretty nice app. Wondered out close a person coould come to the cache to find it. I also had my Nuvi Garmin GPS using the 'where am I' feature. Still no luck. Any suggestions anyone can give would certainly be appreciated.
