  1. Excellent! I agree about the muggles bit. Not sure about their pronunciation of "geocacher" though
  2. I have a coin which needs to go to a night cache. I've tracked down Mark&Lynn's bookmark list of UK night caches but these are all too far away or involve puzzles I'm struggling with. Are there any West Mids night caches about? Thanks in advance... mj
  3. Thanks Steve. I'm sorted now. I've still not found any breath strips as such. But I have seen: this snoring remedy http://www.amazon.co.uk/Snoreeze-W2035-Ora...s/dp/B000LNFSSK some "high energy strips" - something like Red Bull (can't find a link though) and - this is what I used for the cache in the end - a puncture repair kit http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/skabs-self-adh.../COREGMNAART603 mj
  4. Thanks Wendy. That's exactly what I'm after as an SD card container is too big!! Weather wont be an issue where this one is going mj
  5. I've tried Boots, Superdrug, Lloyds the Chemists, independent chemists, Tesco, Sainsburys and more but cant seem to find them anywhere. Anyone know where I can get these now? mj
  6. Glad it all worked out in the end Wendy. Of course, it's not the only time you've encountered the rozzers on a caching day. <a href= "http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=ae386116-a6c1-40b8-a497-48595ee873b2">Part 1</a> and <a href= "http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=9f7b287a-2b3e-489a-bd4e-c1459ef71384">Part 2</a The common theme seems to be the absence of GeoDog! matbe there's a lesson to be learned there... mj
  7. Sorry to see the London one go as I was determined to find the blighter. I officially DNFd there 5 times I think and had a couple of unlogged DNFs to boot Hopefully its replacement will be nice and easy! mj
  8. I'll second The Anchor. It is also a very cycling friendly pub and can easily be taken in on my route home!
  9. That didn't quite go to plan! How do you get the photo to show in the post?! mj
  10. This one is from holiday in France (GC16XP9) http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...18-8a49890da6e3
  11. I just did a spot check and there are only 7 Garmin coins within 20 miles of my home co-ords (59 listing pages!) which takes in the whole of the Birmingham conurbation and numerous satellite towns in the region. I've not read the whole thread but much of it seems to be about swapping unactivated coins, not sending them out into the wild. I very much doubt this is what Garmin intended! mj
  12. To save me reading 595 posts, are these things available in Birmingham? Are there any left?
  13. 2 and a bit years into this lark and I still haven't got the foggiest about pocket queries, greasemonkey scripts and all the other techno babble people go on about here. So in the meantime here's a link to Vix92008's bookmark list of true cache and dashes. Looks like there should be some in your neck of the woods. http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...9b-332cfcb6408f mj
  14. Agree with all this. Don't see what the fuss is about. I'm happy as long as it works and it seems to be working fine to me. My only niggle is that my avatar now appears on the home page and my account page (in itself an improvement I'd say) but as a squashed, troll-like version of its normal self!! mj
  15. I have this earth cache on my watch list. The only find so far is a "grandfathered" pre-publication visit. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...1a-e72b2443fffc
  16. Not sure I recognise the Thursday issue. Tues / Weds for me are likely to require special "dispensation". Unfortunately, I am in a constant state of matrimonial brownie point overdraft (recently worse than ever on account of a ridiculously intense job at work) I'll have to use all my charm and negotiation skills!! The Welly doesn't have so many nooks and crannies for a group to gather and I'm not sure if it does food in the evening (for any that want it). I'll check and report back. mj
  17. My humble offering: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...1a-95a12fe23667
  18. I found one cache today and still haven't managed to log it mj
  19. My vote is Thursdays at the Old Joint Stock, St Philip's Square. Dead central and excellently connected for those that need to use public transport. mj
  20. Looks like some Midlands forum readers are up for this. And I'm sure others would be as word got out. What say we make it a (say) quarterly meeting somewhere in the city centre, which is readily accessible to everyone via public transport? I think it would be a great way for people to put faces to names etc... I'm pretty sure other areas do this sort of thing. I'm too busy to organise something just now, possibly even to turn up to a meet (I'm hardly ever at my desk in Bham now it seems!), but think it would be great to get some dates in the diary eg 2nd Thursday of Sept, Dec, March and June. We could publicise dates and venue via a cache so that visitors to the area could turn up and know they will be among like minded folk for an evening. See for example this cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...41-fd0bbdc096ae Any thoughts? mj
  21. Off the top of my head I reckon around 25% of my finds have been done by bike (including 8 FTFs) with about 40% being associated with work trips which are mainly done by train. That leaves about 1/3 of my caching done by car (caching for caching's sake). That's still too much in my view. Caching is great at getting people out and about and to places they wouldn't otherwise have got to. But they normally get there by car. I have to admit that does bother me. Quality (or opportunity) not quantity, I say!
  22. Of course! I work in the city centre (and have a few caches there - which you haven't done yet!!) so that would be ideal for me. Suggest some times / locations a couple of weeks hence and you're bound to get a few people turning up. If you buy me a pint I may accidentally let slip a hint . . . mj
  23. In the UK it has to be one of the old London trads. St Etheldreda's (Central London) has 697 finds as of today I notice. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...73-593ff62f3a99 mj
  24. For something which will take you places you are otherwise unlikely to go in London you could try the Jack the Ripper series. It's on this bookmark list: http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...60-b1456c72db0b I've not done the Sherlock Holmes ones - yet... mj
