  1. Difficult to diagnose remotely! What autoplay? You say it gives you options, what are they?

Which Windows version are you running? What is the 'something' and what does it say about your browser bar? Are you running IE or another browser?

Thanks for all your help, I realise that it is difficult to sort out like this, I have soooo had enough now that I think I will just give up, I am so disapointed as I have been waiting for the GPS to arrive and now that it has I cant use it

    Thanks again :)

  2. What have you done to install the plug in? Go here:

    http://www8.garmin.com/products/communicator/

while your Dakota is connected to your PC. You'll either be prompted to install the plug in or you'll be told it's installed and working.

Yes that is what keeps coming up, I click to install but its not happening, well I get the spinny thing then nothing to say it is installed, so I tried the other choice on there and no luck with that either.

It is a pc by the way.

  3. Well thanks everyone - that's all very useful stuff

AND it explains why sometimes my Blackberry won't charge from mt lighter jack and at other times it will - I'm prob trying to use the GPS USB cable instead of the charging cable - or something like that

How do you know all this stuff ??? B):anitongue:

Thanks again - I shall be nerdy and stick a label on the right cable, saying "GARMIN ONLY" B)

This is an interesting topic! I have just bought the Garmin Dakota 10 and have been using the supplied cable to try and send some geocaches to it but it wont recognise that the cable is conected, it keeps telling me to download a plugin or something, which I have tried to do but it just wont work, HELP I am close to a breakdown!!!

  4. A "grab" log is used to pickup a trackable from anywhere other than a cache that it is logged into, such as a hand-off; a cache it was sitting in without be logged into; hanging in a tree; etc.

A "retrieve" log is use to (properly) log a pickup of a trackable from a cache that it has been logged into.

Regarding your quote, this happens when there is a time delay between placing it into a cache and actually logging the process online.

This time delay can be as little as 5 minutes or so.... it happens. It bothers some, but mostly they grow out of that concern.

Generally this happens when the next cacher to come along thinks the TB or GC isn't properly logged into that cache -- true, it hasn't been, YET! They are unaware that it may have been placed just minutes before they came across it, and you have not yet had time to log such.

There are ways to correct such action, but really, it's not worth getting one's shorts into a knot over it.

Thanks, that is making much more sense to me now!

  5. Hi everyone, this is my first post so be kind!

I have just recieved my new GPS a Gamin Dakota 10 and so I have been reading up on what I need to do next, I have a slight worry now that I have realised it does not have the facility to take a card? will this mean that I wont be able to add PQs and create routes? or am I worrying for no reason? this is my first ever GPS so am very new to all the technology!
