  1. And don't forget, your events now need to last at least 30 minutes at the posted coordinates.
  2. Help Center Article On Throwdowns I have send this to people.
  3. It happened to 71 caches today; majority of them were over two rail trails; Sussex Branch Trail and Paulinskill Valley Trail. There were probably a couple of others but that's where the majority of them were from. Again, this was a request from the head ranger (references and return e-mail checked).
  4. Well, that didn't last long. Wildlife Management Area Regulations
  5. The wiki has been updated. I was able to acquire a new dataset from the state that includes JUST State Parks/Forests. This means WMA and other state managed lands are not part of this permit. I hope that helps relieve some of the upset and confusion over what is going on.
  6. I just looked at your unpublished caches and I see no challenges awaiting. HQ posted a message to all potential unpublished cache to help reviewers know which ones made the deadlines and which didn't. You should not submit it as it did not make the deadline. If it is listed under a different account, that could be a different answer.
  7. And always make sure you are clear with the person you are asking for permission. "Can I hide this cache in the park?" will probably not get the same answer as "Can I hide this cache 20 feet up a tree in the park?" That way if your reviewer asks you to clarify that the permitting person/agency has all the details, they do.
  8. I can't really say more without giving away the puzzle and I won't do that. The way it is explained to me by the cache owner, I understand it isn't something we allow. I suggested he to to appeals for an unbiased second opinion.
  9. Reviewer notes all boil down to: please provide an online method for decrypting this picture that doesn't require downloading of the file and/or software to decrypt it. This is a typical question I ask anytime Steganography is mentioned as there are so many different ways to encrypt coordinates. Some of the ways meet the guidelines, some of them do not. By showing an online way, you are meeting the guidelines.

  11. While in a bit of disrepair, Lexington Park MD has a geotrail with coins available. It is pretty easy, I think only 8 of the 12 are still available. 12. My guess is they will not tell us to archive old caches but I can't promise that. Probably more of a case by case, park by park kind of thing. Your best bet is to contact the cache owner and find out their plan and make your plans based on that. They may ask you to pull them for them.
  13. The New Jersey wiki has been updated. I heard back from Mark Texel, Director, State Park Service, Division of Parks and Forestry that the data set we should be using for state lands is Open Space - State Owned.
  14. Aside, sadly, I think it is more that people are writing one long log for their day and using automated methods to post them on all the caches of the day. It is no longer as useful a stat as it once was.
  15. It was no response from direct email to owner after a multi-person DNF that actually looked for it at the site. They were there, they looked a lot based on their log.
  16. Either; although, your reason is wrong. I don't think any cache has been disabled for not having been found in a while.
  17. Lets go with the ever favorite "it depends". Personally, I feel it is too open ended but depending on the situation, I would probably be okay with that. I would prefer something akin to: "I will keep an eye on this cache and wait for further logs. Please check back on this in 6 months." "Its winter, I'll check this in April." I think most or all reviewers are willing to work with give and take but it has to be two sided.
  18. Two different things here: -Proactive disabling is not recent. I've been doing it since 2006 and I learned it from the other reviewers so it is nothing new. -When I am looking for problems, I am not looking for old or abandoned. I am just looking for potentially missing and/or a different problem (moldy log, broken container, no trespass signs, security complaints, etc). So an old or abandoned cache may be potentially missing (determined from one or more DNF/NM or other mental algorithm) or it may have a different problem but being old and/or abandoned does not factor at all.
  19. You forgot no longer cares about caching (as well as dead) for reasons for no response. There is already a DNF on the page from someone who did look for it. It is about communications; someone (in this case, a cacher), tried to contact the CO, no response. They contacted me. I do what I feel is right in this situation; now it is back on the cache owner. They can: -Respond with something and extend the life to near infinity as long as they keep responding with reasonable responses. -They can not respond and it gets archived (with the ability to have it unarchived; assuming it meets the current guidelines).
  20. Funny timing, I just received this e-mail. If you see me disable it, with only one DNF on the page, this thread happens. You may not know the full story.
  21. Thanks, I took care of it. I haven't run my PQs for the state so I would have caught it then.
  22. The ones that started this thread are more of the outliers, below are more of the average of what was dealt with that day. http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC2A1B4_tst4-i-am-a-log-kinda-sorta?guid=14183826-f536-45d2-8144-00049fa9a05c http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC1ZDWF_welcome-to-atlantic-city?guid=41ae84fe-01d1-4bee-90cf-63d361563f4d http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC2NVD8_tippy-my-loyal-companion?guid=27e22484-f03c-475a-ab72-9e9c8ed8e7cc http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC2HPGK_the-green-butterfly?guid=4af70d67-4ab1-4503-9071-fa3843aaae2a I can honestly say we were given no instruction related to lonely caches or anything of the sort. In addition to dealing with e-mail complaints about caches, NA notes, when I have time to pull PQs for the state (or when less time, part of the state), and pour through them looking for things that have problems, that's what I do. Every cache could be someone's first and their experience should be a positive one. Finding a broken lidded container with a moldy log book or spending an hour not finding a cache with 3+ DNFs are not going entice people to continue to play the game. I am enjoying this thread a lot, I am learning where lines are for the community, seeing things outside of how I see them, etc. Please, keep going. This is a great example of reading the logs. There is really only one DNF. Only once did the person who dnfed make it to the final location. There are mentions of it being a hard hide. There is nothing from that one DNF that makes be think that it is missing. That GC code is for the wrong cache. Post the correct one, I'll be happy to look. I have not pulled a full PQ set for all of NJ since last December. I usually do it once a year during my winter holiday break from real work. During the regular year, it is smaller PQs and directed actions from caches pointed out as problems.
