  1. I once tried to have a virtual cache but got denied also. Now the neat thing about this cache was you were required to take a picture of it at 65 Miles per hour. The approver told me that he would approve it if there was at least a micro at the sight. There were two problems with that. It would be illegal to stop the car at the location where the virtual would be most appreciated. The second problem is you could have a micro on the virtual, but then you wouldn't be able to see it because you would be on it. The virtual was a futuristic looking bridge that won the "most beautiful bridge" title back in the 60's. It was over the Natcher parkway, and you needed to be driving under it to see it, as the land surrounding it was all private. As far as I am concerned, having a micro is just a waste of time and adds nothing to the hunt. The micro itself does nothing for me and added nothing to the experience, and was impossible at that location anyway. One could put any type of cache on their own personal website if they wish, among other options so I guess it doesn't really matter much. Just my .02 please don't flame me. Thanks.
  2. If someone is so hard up to "keep their stats correct" then they can simply place a link to their own personal website (or yahoo profile page) on their profile page. On their own page they can simply add their GC finds to their finds from any other geo caching site/organization with which they choose to participate.
  3. When I have placed caches in the past I have always used clear "gladware" type containers. I like to see these in highly populated places because someone would be able to see the contents right away limiting the "fear factor". As far as caches out in BFE then I prefer to see ammo boxes and coffee cans as they usually hide alot of good stuff.
  4. I remember we had a cach in a local park in an ammo can. The problem with this was someone thought it was a bomb and they ended up calling the cops. The parks department allowed the cache to stay but the container had to be swaped out. Has anybody ever heard of this happening before?
  5. I hope your tupperware doesn't say "geocaching" on it!
  6. The way the bill now is written you would not be in violation of the law. Even though I still think that the geocaching will never be enforced, a police officer would have to catch a person "red handed", with the actual cache in hand to make an arrest. It seems that you can't legislate simply against the use of a GPSr. So a police officer would have to catch someone finding a cache and "interacting" with it.
  7. I would venture to say, when is all said and done, this bill will end up with even more wiggle room than it has now.
  8. There are so many grammatical errors in the bill right now, it would not be enforcible in any court. I'm thinking if you throw a comma after property then what I stated is true, and not a misquote. There is plenty of wiggle room still in this. I am curious how they are going to punctuate this. I see more ammendments on the way.
  9. Looking at this bill it does appear that a few "teeth" have been taken out. As long as it isn't a cemetary or a "historical place" or "archeological site" WHICH HAS A HISTORICAL MARKER (sec B ). This makes it really easy to identify which sites need additional approval. Virtual Caches are ok anywhere. This bill is still ignorant but there is alot more "wiggle room". P.S. I too have no love for virtuals or micros.
  10. I used to be known at James_b38, for my yahoo screen name. Team Min-Pin is named after my puppy who goes caching with my girlfriend and myself.
  11. I would be more scared of the Navicache guy, he is pretty stout.
  12. Well people like you do not exactly endear people like Ceips to your point of view too, obviously. Can't produce the letter for me? You must be a liar then.
  13. Just answer the question smart a**. It is idiots like this that give people like Ceips the ammo to do the things they do. Smart move buddy.
  14. Sorry Jeremy, but it is true. I didn't save the tracking number because I honestly didn't think I would need too. The general topic of the most recent email was what is the procedure in place for choosing cache approvers.
  15. I know Groundspeak never returns my emails, so I guess it is within the realm of possibility.
  16. Being a person who has been involved in the Legislative process before I fell I can offer a couple of points to this conversation. First of all this bill is what is called "feel good legislation". It addresses a supposed "problem" that hurts few and which a bill would penalize an unorganized and "tiny" group of people. I can assure you Ceips anticipated NO resistance to this bill. I can assure you that she is quite suprised at the responce that she has gotten so far. Second of all if this bill were to pass, which I doubt at this point, it will never be enforced by any law enforcement agency. There are simply too many rapes, murders, drugs for the police to waste their time on a "crime" that has no victim. Every state passes laws that ban certain things but are never enforced. A couple of years ago Maine passed a law that made it illegal for someone to look at nude pictures on the internet. To this day there has not been one single person arrested for doing this. Third point, I would venture to say the average "boy or girl in blue" will never be informed of the geocaching ban, nevermind arrest someone for this. And no judge will send anybody to jail for this. I think current tresspassing laws are more strict that the "geocaching law" would be. Now don't get me wrong please all of you SC people call or visit your legistator and voice your concern about this bill, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it either. Just my 2 cents. Please don't "flame me".
  17. One thing I have noticed is that most people dive whole hog into geocaching, really tear it up and end up with 100+ caches in their first year. Very few people are like us who have 63 finds in almost 3 years. We cache pretty steady, most of our finds are on caching days where we find about 5 on an average day. We don't really bother with micros, virtuals or locationless caches either. We may have about 3 micros and 1 virtual out of 63 total caches. In our 1st year we had 36 finds, 18 in year 2, and by the time year 3 is done we will be in the 12-14 range. I hope to cache more in year 4 but I doubt we will get much over 25-30 per year here on out. That is just wehere caching fits in our lives.
