  1. Genealogy - Kids call it digging up dead people - if I use the gps to get to the library would it be caching dead people? Also Arts and Crafts - just placed a homemade quilted christmas stocking in Tehachapi Treasure Cache Trying to find time to get into the SCA- Society for Creative Anachronism www.sca.org Of course a gps would be OOP (out of period)! Hamsters - buy 2 get 10 free! Draykoh, Yorik, Senyth, Harry, Hermione, Ron, Rubeus, Minerva, Ginny, Jumper, Pounce, Lenny, Squiggy, Micro-Sprite, Midgey and our much loved Boru (RIP)
  2. Thanks! I'll probably end up getting the cable but we went on a 3 cache loop today and everything worked out great but the last point was the first the gps tried to lead us to. We had to go nearby it to get to the first cache but couldn't go there from that direction - had to hit it from the north because it was on the freeway. Anyway, the only way we could do it was enter 1 waypoint at a time then add the next one before we left each cache! Hamsters - buy 2 get 10 free! 4. Ok, This is probably the stupidest question ever posted. I have an E-trex and to enter to waypoints for the caches it says I have to have a satallite lock. It won't get a lock in the house and we already have the home coordinates listed. Does this mean I have to take everything outside to enter the waypoints or is there something I'm not doing right? I have to do this manually, because I don't have the mapping software or cables. Hamsters - buy 2 get 10 free! 6. I heard them say that they used gps to locate the miners who were trapped too. Didn't quite catch it but I think they said it helped to pinpoint the location of where to send in the hot air to keep them alive and warm. BTW. I have been saying since week 1 that the mole is Dorothy. Still do. Anyone else had Tiny Bubbles invading their minds for a week? Hamsters - buy 2 get 10 free! 8. Maybe Jeremy could add a feature - a box to check on the submittal form(?) that says something like, check this box if you would like a wheelchair/stroller icon? and maybe another box to check wether it is 100% or partially accessable. In the meantime maybe you can ask to have it inserted by email when you submit it? What's for dinner? How about Hamster Helper?!!!
  9. We have a 15 year old GMC Suburban which has a sun-cracked dashboard. It is covered by a carpet-like dash cover. I am planning on putting the loop part of the velcro on the gps, then just stick the gps wherever it is most convenient -closer to the wheel for solo driving and over to the co-pilot otherwise. I will keep the fuzzy part to stick on the loop part so when the gps isn't mounted to the dash, it won't snag on everything (which is why I call the fuzzy part SILK!). As for the shoulder mounts. The harmonica thing, or a music holder or one of those craft magnifiers they sell in the embroidery mags. Or maybe even could rig up something with a metal clothes hanger (do they still have those?). On the other hand I DO resemble Dolly Parton!!! What's for dinner? How about Hamster Helper?!!!

  11. Will this idea work? Take an 18 - 24" string. Tie and tape one end of the string around the pencil. Now thread the string through a punch-hole in the logbook. Now attach the other end of the string to the pencil sharpener. --------- What's for dinner? How about Hamster Helper?!!!

  13. for a bumpersticker - Get off my A$$ ... get your own Coordinates Hand over the GPS and Nobody gets hurt! (or substitute cache instead) For a t-shirt - Card carrying member of the Poison Ivy Finders Club What's for dinner? How about Hamster Helper?!!!
  14. That was great! I loved Geocache:The real reason Columbus sailed the ocean blue Geocaching...its like Easter eggs for grownups! I also saw the post (the geeks shall inherit the Earth) that reminded me of a shirt I saw the other day - It said the Geeks shall INTERNET the Earth When things are hectic and the phone rings every 5 minutes, the hubby will get silly and answer the phone "City Morgue - you kill 'em, we'll chill 'em" or "City Morgue - you stab 'em, we'll slab 'em" so converting that to a geocaching theme - how about this one - You Stash it, I'll Cache it! What's for dinner? How about Hamster Helper?!!!
  15. How about we come up with some sayings we would put on geocaching tee-shirts (or bumperstickers)? For starters - Geocachers do it in the Wilderness Geocachers do it by Satellite Geocachers do it in groups Geocaching...Cache the Fever!!!
  16. hey BugZap - I wasn't meaning to put coffee in the thermos - I meant that because it is insulated and leakproof, the thermos would make a good dry cache container. It could be placed at a place near where you would stop for coffee and encourage tired drivers to stop and rest and stretch their legs at a rest stop along a highway. I never would put coffee in it (although a certificate to be redeemed for a cup of coffee would be an idea).

  18. How about a Thermos, they are waterproof and insulated and you could always call it a coffee break cache and place it along a highway where a person would stop, stretch their legs and have a cup of coffee to stay alert (like at a rest stop). My other idea would be a canning jar, maybe with a garden theme - people could exchange vegetable and flower seeds?

  20. How about this one - you make it into a travel bug, but the goal would be that the person will take the TB with them when they do something nice - for example, you go and read to a group of kids sick in the hospital, you bring the TB with you ( maybe take a picture of the TB while you are doing the good deed) and then record it and pass it on. Other ideas for people to do would be delivering meals on wheels, stuffing envelopes for a charity, driving someone to the dr or grocery store. Doesn't have to be big, I just think it would be cool to see how many different acts of kindness your TB would participate in!
  21. I would also bring a pair of tweezers - for those pesky sticker seed things (I know this might be in a commercial made first aid kit but wasn't mentioned for the build-your-own kits medication - in case it takes longer than expected and you need to take medication a fingernail clipper - nothing like breaking a nail and having to rip it the rest of the way off. the zipped off legs to my son's shorts in case we have to go through thorny areas. diapie wipes - can put some in baggies and leave container in car. An alternative is folding paper towels in quarters and pre-wetting and placing in baggies ( put baggies in cooler for refreshing cleanups in the hot summer) Also for the car - Paper towels, water for the radiator, Window cleaner to clean the bugs off the windshield a portapotty for the back of the van - so we can have the kids go before hitting the trail. (a blanket to throw over the windows if they aren't darkly tinted) A tip for hot weather areas - the night before you go, buy bottled water and an empty bottle, Open all of the bottles and pour about 1/4 of each bottle into the spare bottle. Put the bottles in the freezer without lids (or if you have to tip the bottles, don't put the lids on tightly). In the morning, tighten the lids and put them in the cooler, They will help keep your snacks cool and will stay colder longer. I sat in the hot sun for over 4 hours with a frozen gatoraid bottle filled with water and it stayed cold the whole time!

  23. Just to let you know, BobLog2 (previously registered as BobLog) started a huge flamewar because he got all defensive when told that he couldn't do an illegal cache - prescription drugs. He is an extremely bitter man and got booted because of his behavior on the forums. Don't let his post discourage you from thinking up new or unique ides for caches.
  24. I agree that it is the cacher is responsible for making the judgement call as to whether to do a cache or not. I also know that when the cache was placed, possibly in a different season, the conditions may have been different. On the other hand, people use the rating stars as part of the determining factor to decide if it is an appropriate cache for their needs. Seeing that first page, with the snakes, wouldn't that push up the difficulty rating. It is marked as a 1 now and I don't consider snakes that close to a cache being a 1. What does that clayjar rating system put it at? Personally, if I come that close to a snake, I will puke and pass out!
