  1. It might be what I do after work. I was smart and loaded up my PQs...
  2. Where I live there are a lot of rivers, and there are several caches on rivers that you can only access by boat (or swimming if you're brave and / or crazy). In fact, there are some local cachers who put on a float event each year and take folks on their rafts or canoes to go get some of these caches. I think it's great fun myself. We have one that's in the middle of a small lake.
  3. I don't really see why that's funny... care to explain?
  4. I'm excited to see what the hamsters do!!
  5. I'm totally thrilled that you took the time to get this solved and were nice about it. Kudos to you!! Most of the time this sort of thing goes completely unsolved and people just build up resentment and confusion. You are awesome!! I'm glad there are cachers out there like you Fobesman.
  6. Yes! I found this out from personal experience when I wanted to place a cache in a state park that already had several caches. Turns out they *did* need permission, and there *was* a park manager. He was NOT HAPPY about the other caches that didn't have permission. Fortunately, we worked it out so all the caches including mine, could stay... but trust me. Just because there are other caches there and it's on state land does NOT mean that they have permission to be there. I don't have a problem with what you want to do; just be sure to follow the guidelines, CYA and try to make it a win-win for everyone... meaning you, the cache owners of the caches already there, and the land managers, even though it may be state lands.
  7. I've often wondered just how fast someone could complete the RI DeLorme challenge.
  8. This is a great post. Thank YOU for sharing
  9. Jeez... I don't think an email is that. hard. either.
  10. I side with Too Tall John in perhaps considering that it might actually be private property. I live in a fairly rural area on three acres. My property extends over a block down the road and there are no fences between my property and the property next door; just a small easement road. To the front, our property extends halfway into the front yard of the person across the street; but the property lines are not obvious except to my husband and I and the folks across the street, and we let them use it for their lawn. This is a small example, but point being is that to the passerby, it would not be obvious what was property and what wasn't, and where property lines end. So what may look like public land may not be. I know that the lady's reaction may seem extreme, but it may just be that she's frightened, and that's her way of defending herself. She may not have a gun at all. That being said, I would pull the caches and move them elsewhere.
  11. There's no such thing as a "muggler" Thank you!!!! +1 !!!!
  12. Even though this is what I consider to be a short power trail, it WILL get tedious. Bring friends! It makes it much more fun; that's the advice I have. If you're interested in setting time records for yourself, bring a stop watch and have one of your friends keep time and see how many you can find in an hour; etc. Personally, I think this one looks like more fun on a bicycle or on foot, I agree with the previous posters on that one; but if you want to do it in a car, that's your choice; and I have nothing against that.
  13. That's too bad that he felt that way I for one am glad that mresoteric is posting, it's nice to have intelligent contributions from a new cacher. However, I don't feel that the post was that bad. Mresoteric; the folks on this forum are very opinionated, and that's a good thing. I know I've learned a lot from them. Try not to take it personally. Anyhoo, back to the OP. I prefer to read longer logs, but I'm not terribly concerned that people don't post them. Some people can't type very fast, or don't have a lot of time, or have some other reason why they don't post long logs; no matter. As for blank logs, I do have to admit it bothers me a little, and it has become more prevalent since people started logging from their phones. However, I think the greater majority of cachers will still post at least TFTC; so I don't feel like it's much of a problem, and I don't think I'd delete a log if someone did it. If it did happen, I'd probably take it as a hint that my cache needed to be more interesting.
  14. I like basically any temperature; I'm easy! The thing that really gets me about caching in the summer though is mosquitoes. I HATE mosquitoes.
  15. I'm sorry that you've had this experience. I wonder if there's a greater chance of that happening because you live in a larger metro area. I'm not noticed that much here in Eugene. It happens occasionally, but not often enough to really notice or say anything. I wish I had some good advice but I guess I don't... I'm heading up to Portland today with a theater group, hopefully I'll be able to snag some caches while I'm there.
  16. As the others say, FTF isn't an official part of GC.com, so you'll just have to move on. I can understand your frustration though. Usually what I do is if I have a friend come with me to place caches, they don't log it as FTF, they'll log later after someone else logs it first. But I know we don't all play that way.
  17. This has been discussed so many times on this forum. The general concensus is: If you don't like it, then don't do it. I'd rather see a million tftc logs than read all the complaints over and over again.
  18. Congratulations! I remember visiting Buffalo Bill's grave when I lived in Colorado. Way cool.
  19. Not sure if you saw my comments above. I mentioned that I felt the layout was fairly easy to figure out even for new folks, but I hate the color scheme (too dark), and I don't like the gigantic top banner. Again, it's an okay layout, but I'm not thrilled or anything.
  20. I did get shocked once while caching. It was a very minor shock, and honestly, it was my own stupid fault for reaching and not looking. Every other cache I've found on an electric box I've felt quite safe about.
  21. +1 Covelo is a beautiful area, but I'm not sure I would want to live there either. I'm originally from McNab Ranch specifically. (southwest of Ukiah)
  22. I try not to hide micros anymore; although to be honest, I have a series in town here in Junction City that's a historical walking tour, and the interesting sites where I have those caches don't have space for anything larger than a micro. Like another poster said; not every good site has space for something larger than a micro. I'm glad that I have my walking tour series, they are popular caches. I guess I just don't mind micros that much; except in the woods... seems a little unncessary to me; but I won't complain too much. I'm in it for the hunt and being taken to a nice area. Although I do like to be able to write more than just my name in the logbook, and I like trading trackables. I used to have a different philosophy about micros in the woods. I used to say, "who cares?" But honestly, after hiding a few I noticed that folks had a hard time finding them, and I felt like if they were going to drive way up into the mountains possibly in the snow, that they deserved something easier to find that they could possibly trade swag or TBs in... soooo I replaced every micro I had hidden in the woods with a larger small or a regular container. I even have two large sized caches out there. I feel much better about it.
