  1. There is another thread running today about geocaching appearing in Law and Order.
  2. Thanks Cache Hoppers - Will try to talk one of my kids into coming with me.
  3. Good luck Moote. When you putting a map on your profile?
  4. I really quite fancy this one as I love the Cotswolds but can't commit until nearer the time. Oh and thanks for arranging it. If I could ask a stupid question - why is it called Shropshire 2007? I realise I have probably missed something obvious but hey - I'm still new to this and keen to learn.
  5. I have only just begun to get over it. Tony Blair and Steve Mclaren should both resign over this fiasco.
  6. Many things thought of as quintessentially english are actually non native including the beloved snowdrop and the horse chestnut. Problems really only occur when their growth is so rapid it extricates native species from an area, helps a pest to develop faster than it otherwise might or hybridises with the native variety which is happening with bluebells and spanish bluebells. Most ornamental maples are in gardens or arboretums and are highly unlikely to escape and in the wild, many maples you see are our native species - Acer Campestre. Many inspect species avoid the non-native species like the plague which is usually a bad thing as they have nothing to feed on but occassionally an invader might overfeed something - this is highly unusual.
  7. Acers do grow in abundance in the UK. To add a little to a previous entry, our home species is Acer Campestre. London Planes are mistaken by some as Acers due to the similar leaf shape and habit but can be distinguished by large creamy patches on the bark. This is due to the tree shedding heavily polluted bark. This is why they are often chosen as town trees. They are both great to climb.
  8. I quite like the off topics. Like others have pointed out; I only read the ones I think might be of interest to me.
  9. I prefer to follow than to lead and of course it could have become compulsory.
  10. I noticed you were quick onto this one heathens as I have read all previous logs. Your advice and that of the others has lifted our chin an inch or so. Many thanks all. Good to know that you go back if you log DNF's as well.
  11. Are DNF's an issue for all, or is it really just us? I reckon I get about 10% worth of DNF's but the overall logging of these seems a lot less. I give a lot of time to trying to find them but do find it dis-heartening. Don't get me wrong, we still love playing and I don't feel it should always be easy, but does everyone log their failures? I have had a nice evening caching before logging this and found one and failed on another and our team chin is a little down. The cache location was great and I am sure it is down to the need for some more skill, so any cache hunting tips to reduce my DNF's would be greatly appreciated. (Disclaimer - I am not moaning about the caches I haven't found or the people who placed them. To you people I remain very grateful).
  12. Hi guys, Just re-newed my membership and it has all been verified in 'my account' giving the date of re-newal and expiry yet I am not actually allowed access to the members only features (pocket queries etc.) Is there usually a delay? Any thoughts or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
  13. Recently did 'The Great Escape' by Snerdbe and read that the items inside had actually been donated by Isaac of The Bolas Heathens. This was the first time that I had nothing that could be traded with as my son wasn't with me and probably the first time that he would not have been able to 'trade up'. My in-laws were asking me about the treasures we find and I pointed out that we always try to leave something better than we actually find. They thought this was a great idea. Sadly trading up isn't difficult (with the exception of aforementioned cache) but I doubt that many people go out with the idea of trading unless they have kids with them anyway - or am I wrong?
  14. When I saw the heading of this thread prior to reading it I thought I would add an entry about a recent nettle sting. I seem to have a long way to go before getting into your league. The whole of our team wish you a very speedy recovery. All the best.
  15. So now I know why I couldn't upload anything direct to the gallery - you guys are great. Many. many thanks.
  16. Could anyone let me know how I publish pictures to my gallery please. Am very poor when it comes to technology and even its most basic applications. Many thanks.
  17. Oh, and a good day out would be Dovedale. Probably caches there too but haven't been since starting this caching game.
  18. Loads of caches in a relatively small area on Cannock Chase.
