  1. I have a 60cx that I've used for the past several years primarily on my motorcycle for road navigation. Waterproof, routeable maps, wired directly to my battery via the strong 4-pin connector, exceptional battery life for those times it's off the motorcycle battery, and track logging to the SD card for weeks of travel, plus the additional advantage of a a versatile pocktable GPSr for hiking and boating, all contribute to my satisfaction.... so much so, I just purchased a 60CSx from Amazon as a backup. No regrets! Have to purchase routable maps separately, so that adds to the cost, but still worth it to me.
  2. It's a Cx, not CSx. Not such a good deal. Not bad, but... not a CSx. actually, the OP was correct. The Amazon Gold Box deal for 2 hrs this morning was the CSx at $169.99. The deal has expired and it's now back at $199.99
  3. If the only extra feature you need is a compass for when you're standing still, you can always pick up an inexpensive one that clips on your shirt or jacket. Not a bad thing to have as a backup regardless. -bob
  4. As mentioned above, pressing find twice will give you your most recently accessed waypoints. One other thing I do it is put a + in front of the name for my favorites, eg +Home, +Work. That way they show up on top of the list when you search for a waypoint by name. -bob
  5. glad to have helped. Just giving back a little of all that I've gained from reading these forums. btw, here's another one to add to the list... http://toporoute.com -bob
  6. I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but there are a few utilities out there that will covert a google map route info into a gpx file which can be transferred to a GPSr. for example... GPSPlanner Marengo Google2GPX GMapToGPX -bob
  7. I have a 60Cx and am very satisfied with it. I have City Select North America V7, and Metroguide Europe V9. Both work great. If you don't need the detail of Metroguide Europe, you can get a free European basemap from http://www.geodude.nl/community/content/view/28/47/ I don't have experience with other units, so I can't compare. -bob
  8. try selecting the drive from computer and ejecting it.
  9. After the transfer in mapsource, there should be a dialog box with a checkbox that says something like 'turn off GPS after transfer.' Make sure it's unchecked. For the second part, try selecting the drive from computer and ejecting it. hope that helps. -bob
  10. I ride my motorcycle with a Garmin 60Cx and a RAM mount. I love it! There's no question the Zumo is an excellent unit designed specifically for motorcyclists. A buddy of mine has it and I'm continually impressed with it. But for overall flexibility on and off the bike I have never regretted my 60Cx. I've used it extensively for the last two years on many road trips, covering over 30K miles with it. I have City Select V7 installed on it from a DVD. Gives me great flexibility. Works great. I suspect you would be very pleased with the Colorado. -bob
  11. I have couple of related questions that despite searching through the forum, I still don't have a clear idea of... Assuming I have enabled the save tracks to card option on my 60Cx... 1) If I don't have the "Wrap When Full" option checked off, and the Active Log fills up with 10000 points, does the track on the microSD card continue to record (assuming I've got that set up as well)? I suspect not, but am not sure. 2) If I clear the active log in the middle of hike, the card still has a record of it, and will continue to grow from where the Active Log was reset. Is this correct? thanks, Bob
  12. I've been using my 60Cx for all kinds of road use, especially on my motorcycle. I use it a lot to create routes for our weekend group rides. Works great. Last summer I took a 15 day road trip covering over 5000 miles and 15 states. It performed like a champ and was godsend especially when I needed to find a gas station or a motel at the end of the day. I also use it in the car around the city, especially when I need to find a restaurant or store or museum. It's often right in the installed POIs and I can route to directly to it. I have the City Select v7(?) on a DVD and installed it through the Mapsource software on a 2 GB microSD card. -Bob
  13. press Menu twice select Setup, press Enter select System, press Enter press Menu select Software Version, press Enter -bob
  14. I have MetroGuide Europe V8 V9 installed on my Garmin 60Cx. I used it to navigate the streets of Paris during my trip to France last summer and it worked well. -bob
  15. well, after I posted this, I updated the firmware and it worked as you describe. either I had problems with the earlier firmware, or I just had a brainfart and goofed earlier. sorry about the mixup...
  16. I'm probably overlooking something really simple, but how do I create a waypoint using just the map on my 60cx? I can scroll to a point on the map and zoom in. I want to mark that spot, but if I hit the enter button, it just records my current position, not the point on the map where I want to go. thanks.
  17. I have a Garmin 60cx and a G4 12" Powerbook. let me know if I can be of any help. -bob
  18. They told me, and I'm assuming they weren't lying. I pestered them every day about when it would be shipped. They kept replying with a cut and paste statement that it would be shipped within 24 hours of receiving payment. My Paypal account was debited right away, so I asked which date they received payment. Their last email told me the day they received payment (same day paypal said so) and the date it was shipped. Like I said, communication was poor, but I got the card in about a week of winning the auction. -bob
  19. I got a 1GB microSD card from 'fastmemoryman' on ebay. $67 shipped. Payment on the 23rd, shipped on the 24th, delivered on the 29th. yes, communication was very poor, but it was delivered as promised. -bob
  20. I have a Palm TX being delivered soon. I bought it mostly to help organize my work life, but I also want to use it to augment my garmin 60cx. I'll let you know how it goes... -bob
  21. I have a 60cx with 2.60 and it works fine for me. I press the menu button in the map view and then select Setup Map. Then in the first tab, I select Orientation to be "Track Up" and make sure the "Below" option is set to the correct map level I want to do that. If I'm above that level (eg. 12 mi), then the map will show N on top. -bob
  22. yes, that works for me. If you're on the satellite page, you can hit the menu button and select it.
  23. I just tried it with one hand. Nope... I need two hands. With one hand I need to push on the little tab and push on the vertical part of the mount with my fingers to flex it, as you say, and also push the unit down with my other hand. Sample variation? Maybe if I take a dremel tool to the top to loosen it up? I have a 60Cx.
  24. have to say it looks pretty slick. tho since it's using gpsbabel, it doesn't work with my 60cx via usb yet. hopefully, it won't be too much longer. -bob
