From a mountaineer - when the Police catch the ***********'s who stole the vehicle could they pop them down a very deep cave with a little food and water and just before leaving them in the darkness say that they will call the local Cave Rescue Team "who might be some time as somebody nicked their wheels".

Still Bugs In The Latest 60 Csx V2.70
SandyGarrity replied to sylvainp's topic in GPS technology and devices
From an old cynical computer engineer - How accurate do you think a GPS smaller than your hand that picks up a very weak signal beamed from high above the planet to be? I get +-4 meters or 10 feet I think I can live with that! -
No - it means that it is not a "production release" and has not gone thru full testing. To correct and problems you just return to the last version software.

Thinking Of Putting A Sim Card In A Cache
SandyGarrity replied to Matrix's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Personally, I would not pop a sim card into my phone. -
What Dave said! That really is a good explanation.

Come to think of it people have been using a map and compass for years and finding things! -
The ONLY way of working were the bug is, is by going back to the last know working configuration and upgrading one bit at a time.

SandyGarrity replied to NewZealand's topic in GPS technology and devices
Thanks! I feel my postings above are correct. But what a strange way to update the SW version. -

Has Anyone Opened And Compared The 60c To The 60cs?
SandyGarrity replied to aka Monkey's topic in GPS technology and devices
All software is released like that! It is often the licence key that unlocks the "features". From a production point of view it means that you have one source file - far easier to manage version control on. -
Firmware 2.70, But Gps Software(sirf) 2.40 ?
SandyGarrity replied to NewZealand's topic in GPS technology and devices
Hi Firmware is diffrent to software. In simple terms think of Firmware as the Operating System. In fact it is an update of the Read Only Memory (ROM) where Software would update the Random Access Memory (RAM). But it all gets a bit fuzzy in a device like this. This is an upgrade of how the hardware interfaces with the software and the list of what it does is on the upgrade page of the Garmin website. I'll be updating my GPS as soon as I get home (currently lunchtime in the UK). If it was a software upgrade they would be changing things like how the screen looked. Wonder if they could do a software upgrade to work out how long it takes to boil a kettle at altatude? -
To sort out the UK Post Codes currently they get chopped after character 5. How big is a ZIP code?

Hi A good description of the arsonists should do for the police.

Congratulations! Will they walk or be pushed to their first cache?

Thanks Neo Geo. Never thought of that problem (I use my GPS as a navigation tool - with an interest in Geocaching)

Text To Excel Formatting Problems
SandyGarrity replied to Bikebox's topic in GPS technology and devices
I think what is happening is Excel is looking for a CSV file to import. So the data in your text file should look someting like 10.000, 70.000, bit of text or "10.000", "70.000", "bit of text" HTH -
I use the UK TOPO version and it works well. No need to add anything else.

Unlocking Maps From Mapsource
SandyGarrity replied to Turbolift's topic in GPS technology and devices
Happens all the time - You got it sorted Great -
I can't see why you would want to hide a waypoint? You could always no load them!!

Mine worked first time.

I use the "auto" kit and think it is great after all the 60CSx is designed for handheld use. Clip in the cradle, power then onto the mount and your device is sat telling you the way home. ;-)

I do wonder why people need an alarm clock in a GPS? There is one in my watch and that is enough for me.
