So Does Anybody Like Their 60csx?
SandyGarrity replied to gdragon34's topic in GPS technology and devices
Love mine to bits. +/-3 m (or 10 ft) all of the time. Make sure you have solid navigation skills to use the device. -
Not Entirely Happy With My Gpsmap 60csx
SandyGarrity replied to rdb3141's topic in GPS technology and devices
Hi TracknQ Thanks for the detailed post. Yes the post was "directed" at you but let me expand it a little. I'm first and foremost a mountaineer and for the last 30 years have used a map and compass only "getting into" the GPS world in the last few months. In the past I have worked in Mountain Rescue Teams so my navigation has had to be good - people's lives have relied on it, both in finding a casuilty as quickly as I could and getting the location to other people and helicopters to get an injured climber back to hospital as fast as possible. Hence, I am a bit cynical about pure Geocasheing (sorry boys and girls) for me the GPS is a navigation tool just like my map, compass, watch and fingers (I need them to count paces between clumps of grass when the visibility is less then 3 m or 10 ft). I have got to admit that I have had none of the problems that you have described with the unit and have found that the +/-3 m has been spot on. Both when checked against a UK OS map and that skill of the navigator of "knowing" where they are at all times. I am running 2.7 firmware and 2.5 software. Garmin should be your first port of call with your problems - my comment was really to highlite that few people are as good as +-20ft with a map and compass. I get the feeling that you want to be able to geocache blindfold and IMHO that would make the game no fun at all. -

Help! Setting Up Garmin 60 Csx
SandyGarrity replied to Suzzanne's topic in GPS technology and devices
What bits of the manual are you having problems with? -
Yes I see it but am happy with the deviation as the unit is smaller than your hand, the signal is 50 watts, from a bird flying in orbit.

Garman Gpmap 60csx And Posts Codes
SandyGarrity replied to SandyGarrity's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
TOPU is already using post codes but the GPS field is built for ZIP codes not post codes. Thus by increasing the field size then post codes would be usable. -
Hi All I'm the happy owner of a Garman GPMAP 60Csx but feel it has one niggle - the UK Post Code is not correctly displayed and is not searchable. I've contacted the Support team but for some odd reason they think as this model is an "outdoor" product nowbody would want to use post codes, who really needs an GPS "indoors"? So I can happly find a point on the middle of Rannoch Moor but if I want to drive to my Granny in Aberdeen I can't pop in her Post Code and it will take me there! If you thing the display of a full UK post code and the ability to search on it would be useful. Please email the Garman Support team requesting a "Change Request" for the full use of UK Post Codes. If you could add to this tread the fact that you have done it we could gauge the number of requests they have had.

Not my experance. A fix in about 5 seconds +/- 3meters (+/- 10 feet) and does exactly what is says on the tin. Auto routes me to the mountain and confirms my map and compass work every time.

What About A National Cache Maintenance Weekend
SandyGarrity replied to alistair_uk's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Personally, I feel it is for the owner to look aft it. They place it there so there is a duty to look after it. -
Seeing the Metric or Imperal posting above this one, at the time of writing, leads me to ask if you will have the GPS set to km or miles when in France?

Paperless Caching Efficiency

1. Get map and compass out! Never gone paperless never will. The skills of a navigator must never be lost. I only ever use my GPS as backup. -
The More Maps The Slower It Gets?

You are quite correct in your comments. As the processor has more data to read this will slow down the output. One of the basic laws of computing. -

Is Garmin Fixing Custom Poi's On The 60cx?
SandyGarrity replied to da_guy2's topic in GPS technology and devices
I would not agree that they would have to do that. If the data structure is well designed there is no need to create a file system on the card. Creating a file system on the card would eat some of the usable memory and make it less efficent. For good technical reasons I thought being is business was all about making money
