  1. Am I the only person who is appalled by this post? Geocacher_coza: I usually refuse to argue on the internet and I've thought long and hard about whether I should post something in response to your post... Ultimately I decided that my silence would be tantamount to tolerance and I refuse to tolerate racism in any shape or form. It just so happens that Geocaching in South Africa (well, my exposure to it) happens to be a mostly white person's hobby. However, I'm sure there are many black and coloured cachers who are actively involved. Did you think for a second what a black geocacher would think of your Marmite Muggles comment? Would they want to go caching with you? Geocaching thrives because of the geocaching community. When you start using racial stereotypes and calling people names you are instantly excluding a part of the community. I am disgusted by you and I am disgusted by everyone else who read this post and didn't complain about you. j.
  2. What do you guys think? Should I post the results as of now? What i think I'm going to do is give every cache that gets mentioned a vote... some people have listen a few. This is highly scientifically innacurate, but I dont really think it matters. We can discuss scientific methodologies for the second bi-annual award. j.
  3. Hey, sorry, I've been off the radar (GPS) for a while... I've got some votes, but not nearly enough... We've got one more month to get the votes in... Keep them coming!
  4. Does Percy Montgomery know how to fillet fish? I'm sure otherwise he qualifies... (You need to be more specific) (In my spare time I'm a business analyst/programmer) j.
  5. This cache has been posted in case anyone's waiting
  6. Yeah, two or three is cool... Sorry about the *law*... it's the business analyst in me... j.
  7. Check out the "The Bi-Annual Best Cache Awards" topic for news on the awards. j.
  8. I am such a bad person... 1. I still haven't logged this cache. 2. I sms'ed the huskies with the coordinates and they've already found it. will log asap. j.
  9. Ok, Here goes... Like I said right in the begining, I think we should just keep this very simple to start with... Every team votes for one cache and one cache only. It doesn't matter if it's in your province or not... We can use the national event both as a prize giving and as a planning meeting to discuss categories, rules etc for the next competition. I've created an email address for voting: SAGeocacheAwards@gmail.com so mail me asap. When voting, be sure to include why you're voting for that cache. over and out, j.
  10. This cache has actually been placed but unfortunately I ran out of time yesterday to log it... Will definitely log it tonight.
  11. Yeah, that might be very helpful... j
  12. I said senior... Being old is a state of mind and I haven't met an old geocacher yet! j.
  13. Hey all, Funny thing happened while hanging off a cliff recently... well actually it was Sunday and we were abseiling near Eagles Nest when a swarm of kids (and one or two adults) went running up to the top. I assumed nothing more than a bunch of over eager kids but then when they returned I heard one of them ask where the next geocache was and off they headed to Creepies and Crawlies... anyway, I was just wondering who it was... they haven't logged their find on the site yet. Does anyone know? j.
  14. Ok, so really this has gone on long enough We checked out the zoo and have our spot, just need to print out the cache stuff and get it done. This will definitely be an interesting one. Vespa raises a good point, a diagram of the zoo would be interesting although i think none probably exist. There are lots of ruins (probably broken down to keep out the vagrants) that are kinda creepy... feels very strange thinking that years ago there were probably kids running around screaming with candy floss and balloons etc... and animals... giraffes etc. Also not a big fan of zoos. Maybe some of the more senior cachers (you know who you are) could try and remember what was were and let us know with coords? j.
  15. If QFC wants to develop something to log votes then cool... alternatively, like i suggested, email will work fine... Im a wizz at excel j.
  16. The gps will go to the person who submits the best (most meaningful) feedback about the newsletter, so put on your thinking caps. j.
  17. Hi guys My employer (Go2Africa.com) is giving away a free GPS as part of the marketing for our free monthly newsletter... This is just a heads up in case anyone's interested. All you need to do is subscribe to the newsletter (This month's feature is Namibia) and you'll read about how to enter the competition. They basically just want some feedback. Anyways, here's the link http://www.go2africa.com/newsletter/ The newsletter gets sent out in a few hours, but you can always read it online and still win. Happy Caching! j. ps. They haven't decided on which GPS to give out yet, but at the moment they're using a picture of an etrex. Gift horses etc.

  19. What do you guys think about this idea? The Bi-Annual Best Cache Awards The basic idea being that everyone gets a vote; You vote for one cache in your province and someone (I'm volunteering) collates all the votes and lets everyone know who the winner is. No prizes except the glory of knowing you rock the sock... (Unless someone feels super-generous and wants to donate a Garmin 60Cx or something I guess it would make sense for all votes to be in by the end of June (2 months from now) to take advantage of the bi-annual thing. Thoughts, ideas, hate-mail? J. ps. By "Best" I mean however you interpret best... To you "best" may be the most beautiful scenery or maybe it's the most challenging, most muddy, most frustrating etc etc etc... I'll leave that part up to you guys.
  20. Hey, this is cool... You can see when the space station is going to be above us... and supposedly it's visible??? http://esa.heavens-above.com/esa/iss_step2...18.417&TZ=UCTm2 This is one of the better days: http://platec.gsoc.dlr.de/ion/ion-p.exe?pa...%3A13&zone=2.00 Anyways, my 2c worth. j.
  21. ok, I'm tired of being the bad guy in the CT caching community Fido 002 cache details have been updated with extra easy clues. Fido 003 is on its way. Go on Larks! j.
  22. OK, I think I'm going to think of some simple clues... maybe the best hint is that the X is about the size of a CD and is scratched in a tree... Now go do *that* blindfolded. j.
  23. Hi Countless people have not found Fido 002 and have asked for more clues... While I would love to give away a lot of clues, the group that found Fido 002 obviously would love it to remain a difficult cache... Which leaves me in a dilemna... a. We could leave it as is and wait for someone else to find it. or b. We could give away some *more* clues. What does the community think? My opinion is that perhaps we need to give away one more clue to make it easier, but not easy, to find. j.
  24. Veni, Vidi, Cito 22 April 2006 Cito in latin means cito (2) -are (1) [to put in motion excite , start up]. (2) [to summon, call forward], esp. for legal, political or military purposes; hence [to appeal to, point to] authorities, etc. Hence partic. citatus -a -um, [quick, speedy]: 'citato equo', [at full gallop]. Adv. citatim. Although I guess it means: We came, We saw, We cleaned j.
  25. Hi guys... Sorry for being so quiet, i ate some dodgy wimpy on the way out to cape agulas on tuesday and have been out of action since then... still want to do a cache at the zoo... Will try and get it done some time next week. j.
