Do the wildfires going on right now mean anything to you? A small flame in the right conditions could catch a few leaves on fire. You stump it out (So you think)a day later your neighborhood is being evacuated due to an out of control wildfire heading your way. Turns out it started in the area of your cache. Now ask yourself "Was it a good idea to place this in a cache?" I don't get lost...just sometimes can't figure out how to get where I'm going.

I don't see a problem with placing a secure cache on public land. I do see a problem with placing them way off paths where off path hiking is prohibited. I also have a problem with digging for a cache. But leaving a cache next to a tree or other good hiding place dosen't disturb the wildlife anymore then building a path through the woods. I don't get lost...just sometimes can't figure out how to get where I'm going.

Are there any sites out there to teach you how to do basic navigation between GPS and a compass? When Caching my GPS (Etrex Legend) bearing pointer on the compass will tell you to go in one direction then spin in the other direction. I know they get a little crazy but a 180degree spin is really crazy even when your still a couple hundred feet away. I noticed some people use a regular compass when they get within a certain distance. How do you do that? I don't get lost...just sometimes can't figure out how to get where I'm going.

I'm new to geocaching and as I read the posts on a few caches I notice there are a few run ins with snakes. Is this common? I'm deathly afraid of snakes. What do other people with this phobia do to avoid the snakes?
