There was a cache put together, with 8 travel bugs attatched to hot wheels cars. Their mission is to have their photos taken on both coasts of Canada, then to make their way back "home," the first one back, "wins." My question is this...one of the bugs has been lost. The owner of the bug AND cache, has used a 'replacement' bug to continue the race, is this right? Shouldn't the person be outta the race? Let me know your thoughts, Thanks Mtncycler(geocannonball ranch contestant)

LONEWOLF, Where in the pass is this "big" train bank? It' sounds interesting, I'd love to check it out, and get a picture of it, so it can be added to the "big things in Alberta" site. any info would be great, thanks

I'm still pretty new to geocaching....but I was wondering if anyone has thought about cacheing for monuments? Alot of towns or cities in Canada have built something to represent their city/town. One well know example in Alberta is the "big" easter egg in Vegerville. I have since checked the website called "Big things in Alberta", just to discover that alot of places in Canada also have built monuments. So tell me what you think, is it a good idea for a cache? anyway, it was just a thought. Happy Geocaching!! Mtncycler

Don't know if this has been thought of yet. I was watching The Amazing race last night and got to thinking, wouldn't it be great if there was a Geocaching Reality show? Teams could race around the world/country/city, just using their GPS and coordinates given at each cache...first team to make the final destination wins the "big prize". Maybe at each cache they would have to leave an item/take an item, to also 'prove' they were at the cache. Anyway it's just a basic idea. Let me know your thoughts on the subject, and if anyone knows how we might actually make this a 'reality' let me know. (I have also posted the question in General) In the meantime, Happy Caching!

Hey Weedshark, I found the best way to get paint to stick on these containers, is to 'ruff them up a little" A med. grade sand paper will work. it slightly scratches the surface, giveing the paint something to adhere to good luck

anyone else experience poor GPS performance Sat. Sept 21
mtncycler replied to boreal jeff & sons's topic in Canada
A few days before, the sun sent out a CME (coronal mass ejection) also known as a Solar flare. A few days later, it "hit" the earth and we had Northern lights and probloms with satellite reception. Radio/TV, computers, and cell phones were effected...guess the GPS units would have been effected too. -

The Geocannball ranch cache,By MrBond... has set free 8 bugs attatched to 'Hot wheels" cars. Their goal is to have their picture taken in front of the ocean in British Columbia,Canada and then to the east coast, and again have their picture taken at Peggys Cove, Nova Scotia. The first one back to the GeoCannonBall Ranch cache in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, WINS!!

It was a dark and stormy night...

In Canada, I worry more about hiking in the bush and encountering wild animals.... I myself decided to leave a buddy in the car while out caching. I heard a large crashing in the bush. Since there was no time to run, I shimmied up a tree. I was about 8ft up when what ever it was crashed onto the path. Of course I had to see what it was, so I looked down and was almost face to face with a darn cow moose. WOW are they're eyes ever BIG I then heard another noise in the bush and out walked her baby. Momma sniffed the air, grunted then continued on her way....the same way I just came from. I waited 10mins or so before coming down from my not so safe perch (how the heck did I get up there?) I never did make it to the cache that day, and the whole time, I had my camera dangleing around my neck....didn't get a pic either so when I finally made it back to the car, my buddy asked if I saw the momma and baby moose. All I managed was a stupid grin and a nod of my head! I hope a few of you get a good chuckle out what could have been my missfortune. STAY ALERT, STAY SAFE! and happy caching -

Bear bangers work pretty well, but are a tad expensive, since the only place I've seen them were at camping type stores....I carry an air horn, used for boating. They are light, compact and not very expensive......They also work in an emergency, since the sound travels up to 3miles. I have mine on a strap, for my wrist or my back pack, for easy access..... Happy caching

In the Canadian rocky mountains, there is no signal for a cell phone anyway. all I take with me is my compass, my smarts, and my emergency kit... if you know how to use all 3, you should do just fine....and telling someone where you're going might help
