  1. I installed Garmin Topo on my desktop 2 weeks ago. I have Windows 7 64bit. No issues thus far.
  2. I used Basecamp instead and it worked perfectly. Thanks anyway guys. Yes, it is North West US map. Thanks again
  3. You need to install them using either MapSource or Garmin MapInstaller. I am having problems with Mapsource. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it and keep geting an error that says it has problems and I need to reinstall it. It wont open. I'm using Windows7 64bit. Any ideas?
  4. I downloaded the Oregon Northwest maps and now I have a folder with the name on it. The folder contains 498 files that I have no idea what to do with. How do I see the map? How do I load them into my 60CSX? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Guys...
  5. What EasyGPS calls a map, only shows the position of caches without any background information. The divide between cache data (left side) and map (right side) can be adjusted by dragging (with the cursor) the boundary between them. If you have the boundary dragged all the way over to the right, you can't see the map. And grabbing the boundary can be a little tricky when it's on the extreme edge. I find it's easiest to minimize EasyGPS, drag the boundary, and then maximize EasyGPS again. Hope I explained this clearly enough. Edit: After re-reading your post, I think you are seeing the cluster of cache locations. But because they call it a map, you question why you are not seeing any actual map data. EasyGPS is provided free of charge by TopoGrafix, and is not their premier product. Thus, no maps that I am aware of. They do offer for sale more robust products with actual mapping data. Ok that clears it up. I was wondering if I should be seeing map details or not. You answered my question completely. Thank you very much. I have since downloaded GSAK and I'm thinking it better serves my needs.
  6. I am getting acquainted with EasyGPS. Am i supposed to see a map on the right half of the screen? I see the waypoints there but I'm assuming there should be a map also. Is this something I need to install separately? Thanks guys...
  7. I am slowly figuring out my new 60 series Garmin. My first question is this. When I download Geocaches from Geo.com, it puts the file in both the Geocaches and Waypoints folders. Is this normal? Is there a way to just put the caches in the Geocaches folder and not in the waypoints folder? Thanks guys...
  8. I'm glad to hear that! I just ordered a 450 from them oer the weekend, it shipped yesterday, should be here tomorrow! Can't wait to play with the new toy. On a side note, I just sent my Rino 530hcx back to Garmin for repair yesterday . can you use the rebate at gpscity Yes
  9. We stopped Geocaching for many years. We found that people were so insistant on hiding a cache that we would find a useless box of crap in an area that was worthless to go to. Caching is about taking you to a unique or nice place and perhaps showing someone something they havent seen before. An ammo can full of dirty old playing cards and McD toy laying behind a bush in the ditch just doesnt cut it.
  10. Well, you asked so here it goes. In a town about 30 miles from us there is a huge park that runs for several miles along the Columbia River. The cache was located among a bunch of trees and bushes probably covering half an acre or so. The brush was so thick you had to crawl and walk bent over along a amze of trails. I was leading and my wife and son were following. I came to a rather large opening near the center of the bushes and there was a lot of homosexual pornography and a lot of litter laying around. Come to find out, this was a favorite hiding place for homeless and creapy men to hang out. I dont know if there really ever was a cache in there or not. I notified the cache owner and demand he remove it. He did and not too long after, the bushes were removed. My son never saw what I saw so I'm glad I was leading. Be aware of your surroundings and never assume just because there is supposed to be a cache there that it's a family friendly place. This was in 2003 so it's just a distant (bad) memory at this point. Happy caching
  11. I have noticed a big price difference between new and refurbished 60csx's. This is the unit I want but am unsure of the refurb's. Enlighten me please.
  12. Mines just a guy with his head and more burried in a bucket. It reminds me of myself while Geocaching. Family members usually out cache me big time.
  13. Never had a problem with my Platinum finding itself. Just turn it on and bingo, it locks in. If it hesitates, just re-initialize and in seconds youre found. I highly recommend the Plat. The electronic compass is really cool. "If there's fish in your Jell-O...You used the wrong bowl"
  14. I vote to keep watching and you might be surprised where they get to go. Endless possibilities Don't worry that the world might end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.
  15. In fact it was attached to a traveler. A small piece of varnished drift wood. I think I will log it on the cache page and see if anyone responds. Thanks for the help...
  16. We found a travel bug yesterday . Nothing about it in the logbook so we went ahead and took it. Upon entering its code on the travel bug page, I find that it was never activated. Now we have no idea of its intended purpose. I guess I can continue to watch it for a while to see if it becomes activated, or I could return it to the cache where we found it. I am new to travel bugs but I do think I know how they are suppose to work. Am I missing something, or are they supposed to be activated upon discovery? Help.......
  17. Check out our Cache that requires some math. Pretty basic, but most seem to enjoy it. Kathy's Cache is the Name
  18. For us the only numbers important are the ones we post. I really dont care how many others can log, as long as they are finding our caches that we hide. Just a fun and challenging game we enjoy playing as a family.
  19. Well for starters i only spent about $100.00 for my Mag 315 that works absolutely fantastic. A few nice trinkets cost very little. We love to go looking around anyway and have found that Geocaching is one of the most exciting games we've ever played. Relatively inexpensive unless you have no gas money etc. Love the sport.......
