  3. El Diablo, hope you and Little Frog get as much out of the media experience as JeffersonStone and I have. I had someone recognize me here in the hospital tonight. One of the doctors I work with called yesterday and the familiar refrain began- "hey, didn't I see you on TV?". This has been a lot of fun, and it seems that we are introducing lots of new people to the sport. Now, if all the people YOU introduce hide caches as hard as yours, people will come from all over the country to find them! Congratulations!

  5. Just filled out the form, shuld be approved in a few hours or so. It will show up on the list of new caches as sson as it is approved.
  6. Looks like an informal meeting is taking the lead. Now let's start talking dates. Is anybody going to be in town on July 6th, or should we try for another date? How about the morning of July 6th, and then perhaps an informal caching expedition? Perhaps that crafty JeffersonStone has an idea for a one time cache for after the meeting-

  8. Okay, there is a lot of interest in this. A few quick questions: do we want to have an informal meeting first, and then set up an event cache? Or do we go for the event cache first- JeffersonStone and I have some ideas from events we have been to. If we have an informal meeting- weekday, or weekend? Post away, I want input. Let's get this thing rolling! JoeyBob- one of the infamous "tv guys"
  9. I am going to start a new thread addressing the meeting topic. Let's do it!
  10. Had a cache in a high traffic area found by a maintenance worker cleaning up brush. He logged it, and left a sand dollar. Don't know if he has looked for anymore caches. He even told me in the note not to worry, the hiding spot would grow back! Nice guy!
  11. Okay, I am one of the TV guys, and hey, this sounds like fun. JeffersonStone, the other TV guy, has been wanting to get a group going. Lets try to pick a date and place. Post your ideas, or email me. fpage, I just emailed you at your nongeocaching email address.
  12. I will be caching in PA that weekend, well caching while visiting my wife's family, that is. Would love to meet you folks, especially after our collaboration earlier this year. Maybe next time.
  13. Someone recognized me on the street from watching the tv show! Spooky! He and his son are buying a GPS and have printed out lists of caches to visit. Odd feeling to have a stranger come up to you like that, glad I'm not keeping a high profile.

  15. Don't bother with the kits that come with a razor blade and suction cup. Think about it, the fangs go in an inch or so deep, you have to cut yourself as deep or deeper, then try to extract the venom. You will do more damage to yourself than the snake did. Current treatment for snakebite calls for watching the victim, and generally treating the pain and swelling. They don't give antivenom unless you are having a severe reaction. Disclaimer: I work in an ICU in the southeastern US, mostly Copperhead bites that I deal with. Not sure about rattlesnakes and scorpions, treatment may differ. See a doctor, but no tourniquets or cutting yourself up, please!

  17. Wow, sounds like you are busy also! We have been talking about heading your way again, maybe we can make a monthly meeting. Always a pleasure when we are around your crew. Joey and Ryan

  19. My Dad loves them, even has the huge display model. I had a Cold Steel knockoff of the design, prettyneat.
  20. Hey Hawk-eye, no problem. Triffid wanted a copy too, If you could email me his address. I already have yours, thanks again for the memento of your celebration. The TW people called last night, and they are sending me a copy of the tape. I will make copies off that one, better quality than off the tv. Believe it or not, Ryan and I are two pretty shy, attention avoiding individuals. Don't know how we got started with all this, but it has been fun.
  21. Sounds like a good idea to me- we would have to hide a lot more caches in NC- 100 counties! Most of them don't have caches yet, we have them primarily in the population centers, but the cachers in the western part of the state are really working the Blue Ridge Parkway area hard. Go get 'em, guys!
  22. Sorry, I forgot to say that the show will air on TW Cable in the Triangle area of NC.
  23. Just got a call from Lynn Covey, the producer of the geocaching segment we filmed recently. The show will be on Time Warner Cable channel 24 at 7pm, Triangle Profiles is the name of the show. It will show again at another time, not sure when. Now you can see why JeffersonStone and myself are not relying on our looks to pay the bills! JoeyBob
  24. Sorry if I was not clear, and rereading my post illustrates that. My comment about narrow perspectives comes from my job- in an intensive care unit, working with kids. Many people don't get the chance to enjoy life, much less hobbies like we all have. I look at geocaching as a way to enjoy life and celebrate my good health, as something totally different from the stress, heartbreak, and devastation of young lives that I deal with each day. That is why the MOC topic is lacking in relevance to me. Off the soapbox, sorry for the long winded post.
