  1. Again... thanks fishgeek. I really appreciate your suggestions. If anyone else has cache suggestions, I'd love to hear them anytime. We've got a while until our trip. Thanks all! ~toodalooo2
  2. Long distance hiking caches and altitude caches sound cool - that might be an idea for myself! I think it'd be neat to backpack a trail and cache along the way.
  3. Sorry if I used a bad term... didn't mean to bother anyone!
  4. So, does anyone have specific goals for geocaching that they'd like to share? I'm curious about where others want to go and do with the game. Below is my "bucket list" for geocaching: -reach 500 finds -attempt GC206A3/Road to Bombing Range 61 and GC5600Q/Screenshot at some point -hide 5 caches by the end of the year -go to a Groundspeak event in Seattle -have a lot of fun! Anyone fulfilled any amazing goals? It'd be neat to know that too!
  5. Those look neat... really looking forward to the trip now!
  6. Ours is a dice with our name on it. Can't remember why we chose a dice. In our owned caches, we always put in a Florida quarter for FTF (because we're in FL).
  7. Ammo cans and creative hides. The best creative hide I've found so far is a plastic grasshopper tucked away in an azalea bush! But an urban micro is fun to find as well.
  8. Thanks fishgeek! That's a great list. If anyone else has suggestions, I'd love to hear them!
  9. Hi narcissa, Thanks for the reply. I've been looking at a few of Gettysburg's virtuals. Hoping to find a few actual containers, though! Thanks again!
  10. Hi there fellow cachers, I'll be taking a trip from northern FL to NYC this September. Wanting to pick up a few geocaches along the way, I thought I would post here and see if anyone has a unique or unusual cache, or a "must do" along the route I'll be taking. I'm going I-95 to 26, then I-77 at Columbia, SC, getting on 81 at Wytheville, VA, Skyline Drive, US-340/15 to Gettysburg, and then I-78 to NYC. On the way home I'll be taking I-95 straight down the coast. If anyone has a cache suggestion, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks! ~toodalooo2
  11. Hello, Myself and the family are going to be traveling from FL to NYC in September and will be passing through Virginia on I-81. Wanting to hit some caches along the way, I thought I'd see if there were some unique or unusual hides along the interstate. Caches more than 5 miles from the interstate are a bit too far, I'm afraid. Thanks much! ~toodalooo2
  12. For someone who just released their first travel bug, this is a great story to hear! So glad she made it home safe and sound.
  13. Hi, Rat Tails! I'm pretty new to the forums as well. In my experience, Geocoins are more likely to be kept/stolen because they are more of a "collectable" type. However, a cute Travel Bug (like a stuffed animal or toy) is just as likely to kept as well. Snoogans' TB Longevity Clinic topic is a good place to go for tips on keeping a TB from disappearing, but in the end, you just have to send it out in the world to see what happens. IMO, a TB that's not particularly cute would be a safer option. I hope this was helpful... and welcome to the forums! ~toodalooo2
  14. It's not really a sin, but it can be a little bothersome: putting a cache in a location filled with trash, or where it's obvious that "interesting" folks hang out often. However, it would be a good idea for a CITO event at such a location.
  15. Here in FL, I believe we have two seasons: hot and hotter. That's really the way it is for me, where I live in Florida - though we do have the rare cold snap.
  16. There are 787 caches within a 10 mile radius of my home. I've found quite a few of them... but only one is mine...
  17. I'm hoping to get a PM soon... this just encourages me to make it sooner!!
  18. Thanks so much, Gitchee-Gummee. I ran out to Home Depot right away and was easily able to grab the stuff you listed - and for about a dollar! To The Leprechauns - thanks, I'll make sure to put it in a discreet spot.
  19. Hello all, I'm going to be releasing my first travel bug tomorrow, to start off the New Year and as a way to celebrate my first year and a half of caching. I was thinking about (in addition to the dog tag) writing the tracking number on the travel bug itself, in case it someday got separated from the dog tag & chain. Can this be done, or is it a no-no? Thanks very much! ~toodalooo2
